Upcoming Call of Duty for PlayStation Vita will not include fan-favorite mode because multiplayer took priority, Activision says; game due November 13.
Next month's PlayStation Vita game Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified will not have a Zombies mode. The news comes by way of Activision community manager Dan Amrich, who explained on his One of Swords blog that standard multiplayer took priority during development.
"That’s the core experience, and that simply needs to come first," Amrich wrote. "There’s always a list of things you want to do and things you need to do, and at the end of the day, realistic goals are the ones that people actually attain."
Though there will not be a Zombies mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified, the game does host a similar "Hostiles" mode. This gametype challenges players with defeating waves of enemies, but they are living, not foaming at the mouth and undead.
Black Ops Declassified is the first Black Ops game to not feature a Zombies mode. After being introduced in Treyarch's 2008 shooter Call of Duty: World at War, the gametype returned in 2010's Black Ops, was spun into its own iOS game, Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies, and will be featured in next month's Black Ops II.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified is currently in development at Nihilistic Software (Resistance: Burning Skies), and is due out on November 13, according to a tweet from the studio. The game will also be available in a PS Vita hardware bundle at launch.
No zombies... weak. That is honestly one of the reasons i play Call of Duty by Treyarch. Hearing that there was a new developer gave me some hope of a better multiplayer, but then i new there wouldn't be any zombies. Zombies is a Treyarch thing. I think it would be cool if the next Call of Duty has Zombies and Survival.
I think this is a quick cash in. Why else would they not have a budget big enough to allow for zombie mode?
Wow. Well I already knew it would suck because Nihlistic is developing so it looks like a bad re-skin of Resistance: Burning Skies.
I am not a fan of the recent Call of Duty games, but this is a bit of a slap in the face to the people who are.
Too bad it seems Sony couldn't get real support from Activsion and Treyarch. This could have been a real system seller. Maybe there will be a few unknowing 11-year-olds who will put this game and a Vita on their Christmas list...... and despite the verbal abuse I have taken from those 11-year-olds.... I almost feel sorry for them now.
50 dollars for 4 vs 4 online and no zombies plus the game going to be short and they want 50 dollars that's crazy
Zombies would have made it too comparable to dead trigger and they dont want that.
I bet the textures, animations and heck even core gameplay will be better in dead trigger.
Now they can say, that they may have done a sloppy job with the graphics, but at least the gameplay is better or at least more complex, than dead trigger...
When I saw the trailer I knew it was crap, now it's like their convincing me not to buy it with every statement they make.
i was instantly turned off once i found out who was the developer. so it doesn't matter what else is not going to be in it.
What's funny is that if they DID add it on, it would have been lazily and rushed, and so then everyone would complain about them tacking on a watered down old news feature.
They knew they'd lose either way, so they figured they'd save a few bucks. I don't know why they would even commit to Vita in the first place.
C'mon Activision. You don't have to lie. You can be honest and tell us that you weren't comfortable spending money on this bastardized version of the game. It's OK. We all know that's the case anyway.
True, i was hoping they would reverse the Resistance situation and save VITA, but unfortunately, this is just another mean to milk money, rather than invest on Vita capabilities.
They should have tried a PS2 version as well, it could probably sell more...
The only reason I was gonna buy this game was because I thought it was gonna have a zombies mode
i am so dissapoint
WHAT... Zombies s the perfect mode for a portable system. I was hoping they would just release zombies for the vita without the other bullshit. I guess I won't be getting this one after all.
Zombies mode is boring anyway.. Honestly. If you want zombies, go and play Resident Evil. I still don't get why zombies are even in Call of Duty.
@Cillah187 Obviously you haven't dove into black ops zombies very well. Especially if you're suggesting folks to play RE instead. Are you kidding me?
@Cillah187 Well I dont know why it was in Black ops but it was in world at war because it is believed that the nazis experimented with reanimating the dead.
Resident Evil games don't have zombies anymore.
How much development can it possibly take to rehash their multiplayer formula? Are you really trying to tell me they didn't have the production prowess to add zombies?
@Evanrocknuma not defending call of duty but you obviously have no idea about the complexities of software development. "rehashing" their multiplayer formula slightly would not get you zombies. it would require making several additional maps, creating various models for the zombies and other creatures, coding the actual gametype to integrate co-operative play, and much more.
@xan114 Oh, nonono. Not what I was getting at, sweetcheeks. The article mentions that they ditched the zombies to focus on the multiplayer experience. That is where the rehashing comes in to play, because they already have their multi-player formula down stat. Cute that you misinterpreted that to mean I thought zombies would magically encode themselves though;)
Ohhh..... take that Sony.... Ouch..... That's what you get for that terrible OS...... Ohhhh, ouuuuch.....
Want to play a shitty shooter with zombies in it? Just play a recent Resident Evil game and the zombie part won't even be an optional mode XD.
well i wasn't going to buy it anyways since its being worked on by Nihilistic, but this is definitely the reason why everyone wont be getting it, 6 months past launch and you will be seeing it in the bargain bin for $20
I lost all hope for this game as soon as I heard Nihilistic was developing it. Now it seems like their half assing it out of laziness. The Vita is quite a powerful system, but by limiting the number of online players, making online maps small and cramped, and eliminating zombies, it just shows you aren't trying. If LittleBigPlanet Vita could mimic the console versions perfectly, then why can't Black Ops: Declassified?
Might as well skip this and wait for ACIII: Liberation and Killzone Mercenary.
ehh...., i kinda want some sort of fps for my vita, so when the price gos down, or this black friday, i might consider it, but id rather have some sort of sci-fi shooter like borderlands or something else, there was resistance, but that game wasnt really that great
Sony made mistake putting their team on black ops declassified instead of making borderlands 2 for vita. I'm sick and tired of this shooter with same graphics lame story every freakin year be creative ffs. Vita needs new god of war new infamous even gran turismo LBP2 vita. And if Vita can run ps3 games why not put ps2 games on it? Why xbox and ps3 gets dbz collection and not vita? SUPPORT YOUR SHIT SONY noone else will do it for you
with the wiiU gamepad being superior to the vita and now the lack of zombies, the black ops version of vita is being sent out to die.
