Deep Silver confirms upcoming open-world action game won't release on Nintendo's new console.
Saints Row IV is not coming to Wii U, a Deep Silver representative confirmed with Polygon today. The publisher did not provide a rationale as to why the Wii U was skipped over.
As announced today, Saints Row IV will release August 20 for PC and unspecified current-generation platforms.
Other big-name games that skipped over the Wii U include Far Cry 3, Resident Evil 6, Dead Space 3, and Crysis 3.
Additionally, Fallout and Elder Scrolls publisher Bethesda has said it presently has no plans to support the Wii U.

why do game spot like to make a fuss over what games skip the wii u. you know the original dead rising, ninga blade infinite undiscovery to name a few skipped the ps 3, yakuza and metal gear 4 skipped xbox. making an whole artical about a games skipping a console only fuels fanboy wars.

1 Like The WIIU was never going to be a next gen system. I mean it barely beats the xbox and ps3 and those are 8 years or more old. I'm sure Nintendo will still do well with the younger crowd and casual gamers but, I seriously doubt its going to be any competiton to Sony or Microsoft after they drop their new console bombs. I played a bit on the old Atari but my first real gaming memories are from my 8 bit Nintendo and it saddens me to see this once great company failing.
2 Like They're not failing, man. Graphics honestly don't matter much. They don't affect gameplay or story(For example, look at Zeno Clash; fantastic game and story, but it has last-gen graphics. But I still enjoyed the crap out of it). And Pikmin 3 already looks beautiful with what it's got. As for the casual thing, I'd like to see a casual gamer play Pikmin or Monster Hunter.
@Rennar There's a lot more to having more processing power, memory, ect than just prettier graphics.
@Waynespread Probably, GTAV likely has a budget well over $100M and been in production for years. SRIV probably only has a budget that's a third of GTAV's, if the development team is lucky and a development cycle that's much shorter.
Creating a huge environment like JC2's doesn't cost much when it's mostly jungle. desert, ect.
I agree but Saints Row isnt going to use them either. If they sacrificed graphics to make the play area much bigger, add hundreds of missions or FULL customisation then I'd say its worth the trade off. But their graphics look worse than Just Cause 2 which is years behind and the play area is much smalller, so clearly they arent using its full potential. Is it too much to ask to get the gameplay of Saints Row with GTA5 graphics?
If graphics dont matter much why are we releasing new consoles and graphics cards? Why arent we still gaming on Sega 16 bit machines? If I'm going to pay R6000 for a console I want games that look and play AWESOME. I want to know my money was well spent. Especially if its a full price AAA game. If I want nostalgia, or games that are fun but arent the best looking, I'll download something off PSN for R100. If your game costs full price it better look and play the part. Graphics matter differently to different types of games.. Having crap graphics in Battlefield or MW would def matter, and I think in open world games where you want the city to feel alive, it has to look good. I just dont see why Saints Row cant look the same as GTA and Just Cause when they're priced in that group.
I play roms too and download a lot of games off PSN so I dont only play games that look cutting edge. But you gotta admit games are always compared to the best ones in their genre. So even though I love Borderlands 2 people always bitch that it looks cartoony and the graphics suck. In that case the game is still amazing fun and they wouldnt get the amount of gameplay hours if they upped the graphics. But I love Borderlands 2 because of its unique style and longevity. The graphics didnt take anything away from the game, in fact I love its unique style. But in Saintrs case it gets compared to Just Cause and GTA and graphically it cant compete. So many people cant afford to buy all 3 games at full price and I dont know anybody who would buy Saints over Just Caue or GTA.

Who said we aren't? :) Sure pretty graphics are nice, but there's a thing called "diminishing returns" and what we feel looks "good enough". I grew up with an Atari 2600 and still do a bunch of retro-gamin so I really don't care if Lara Croft's Hair blows in the wind, I want something that's fun and different. The way I see it is you can take a PS360 game which would be (on PC) set to "medium" and 720p30 resolution, port that to the NextXBox and PS4 basically can set that to 1080p30 / 1080p60 and "High" graphics settings... and that's pretty much it.
Upping the resolution on a game really isn't a selling point on a whole new system, until they offer something that changes HOW I play them I'm just not interested, my PC already has that covered.
Time for me to break out the classic consoles/emulators, as console gaming today is all about FPSs, GTA clones, and Madden.

Wii was doomed to failure when Nintendo refused to 'compete' with next gen. They refused to listen to devs when they said they wanted more universal controller to make it easier to port games. They simply wanted to release a system that barely beats out a PS3, and since Nintendo was stupid enough to expect people to buy and settle with what 32 gig and 16gig systems?
How are you going to justify players just *delete* games and re-download those huge files later? They wanted to give us a unique experience, one Sony is copying asap and going to try and perfect by the time PS4 hits.
Nintendo has shown its ignorance and prefers to play in its own sandbox and ignore the requests of DEVS and GAMERS. Nintendo dug their own grave when they released a Wii+ with bigger disc space... I don't want to buy another PS3 at PS3 launch prices. I don't want to buy a controller that should be included in all Wii U's to play certain games.
Wii U should of gone the extra mile to compete with nextgen. They wanted to come out a year early, and yet they can't give us any games to play on it..... We're going to have to settle for an HD sixty-dollar remake of Wind Waker to tie us down for another YEAR to play a new Zelda that won't reach us till summer or fall of NEXT YEAR anyways.
Doomed from the start. No company even wants to support your system because devs these days have a time limit and a tighter budget. They don't want to make too many different versions of a single game just because you want them to include touchscreen support and unique features. Sell more units and you'll get more support? Good luck since most worth buying are still ten months away or more (knowing Nintendo) before we get our money's worth.
TL;DR: Just buy a PS4 since companies already making exclusive and prettier versions of their games for it and allows used games.
Wut? Apparently, you haven't read much about the Wii U. Hell, I doubt you've even seen the controller, given your comments on it. The console comes in 8GB and 32GB versions - you couldn't even get that right. What you have written is blind ranting; nothing more.

It comes with a tablet. 180 dollar remote that if broken would cost you more to repair with no plans currently to sell that individually.
They went the single player route this gen. It could of worked had this Wii U been out two years ago. Too late for them honestly, I don't want a slightly more interactive ps3. I want games. GAMES we won't see for almost 2 years...
I'm not saying you can't throw money on a system with a tablet that barely specs up to an ipad 1, but hey, don't say I didn't warn you.

@DARKKNIGHTPRABZ well any funny business from ms and sony and i will buy a wii u. the only reason i have not already is because i have loads of consoles already so i am waiting this one out to see what each side offers and so far wii u is the only released system and admittedly has games i want to play. but i will wait and see what all sides are offering

Take away the screen on the GamePad and what do you have? A traditional controller so all this talk about the Wii U not having traditional controls is BS. Barely beats out the PS3? What's your proof on this? The launch titles? Launch titles which NEVER showcase the true power of a system?
Nintendo made it completely clear that if you want more memory, buy it yourself because buying memory yourself is around 30-50% cheaper than if they charge you for it by including it within the system. Why else would the 500GB PS3 bundle sell for more than the Basic Wii U bundle?
Sony's not exactly copying it, considering that the Dual Shock 4 only has a touch pad instead of a touch screen and they can't expect every PS4 owner to get a Vita and vice versa so for the most part, it'll just be an optional feature instead of an integral part of the game like the Wii U.
There's a reason why Nintendo has almost always remained profitable and successful regardless of what decisions they make (whether it be great or weird), because they stay true to themselves and do things their way. They're not going to sell out or start changing their beliefs just because 1-2m ignorant "hardcore gamers" don't know squat about business and just want everything for nothing, or developers who say "We want more power!" and when you give it to them, all they do is make another shooter. No thanks.
Get a PS4 if you want, I don't plan on getting one until maybe 2015, I'm sure it'll be a great system, but in the meantime, I don't need another system (except a PS3) since there are a handful of amazing looking games coming soon to the Wii U as well as the 3DS.
@abHS4L88 @telaros Sony will allow you to do enough Wii U control gimmick aspects if their Gaikai service pans out well with PS Vita.
I know enough about business, but I know what I like. And I *don'T* like waiting a year to play good games. It is why I usually wait to plop down 400-600 bucks or more on a gaming system and crap to play on it then blind consumers that go buying stuff on promises alone.
I have been having WAY more fun in any case playing Etrian Oddyssey IV on my 3DS then I have most games the year past. Skyrim wore out on fun factor too quickly, Dead Space 2 was nice but felt tame, BL2 was over hyped and only good in co-op with good friends or at least beat the storymode.
I suppose outside of fighting games, I hardly care about next gens. Wii U is a waste of money because it's just a slightly better ps3 minus what makes PS3 tolerable. Average games these days are between 9-16gigs. Anyone buying a Wii U low end model are idiots. Or at least never plan on using any cloud system downloadable games. Which guess what? Was part of the whole direction they supposedly wanted to go. GG 32GB... WHAT?
Yeah, I *could* use my 3TB external HDD, but why should I when I can buy a system with more power, more exclusives, and will actually be supported.
You harp about going cloud, yet you expect everyone to have unlimited internet bandwidth with your "Just delete it and download again later" mentality? That was poor business sense. And Wii U's pricing isn't deserving of a 400 dollar price tag. Not even bundled with a game!
I only look at the higher end models, because wasting money on lower ends is a waste of money for what little games worth playing on it. Devs don't like it. And if my 180 dollar screen gets messed up, or dies.... do you really think I'm going to settle for buying a *new* Wii U system just for a new replacement? Not even gonna waste my breath on Nintendo's warranty on the pad... You still get charged a boatload!
It isn't worth the investment and it is a nightmare to port games and manage releases on without making Wii U people wait longer or release a flat, boring, straight port, with no Wii U fun features.

NO. If I wanted a basic controller, I'd buy a PS3 again. I already have a 360 wired con for my PC and currently, indie games and the fact these 'triple A' games are coming to Steam at a day one street date... I can't see myself wasting my time on a console that while supports the Wii Motes and such, still took a step back in design. You even give people almost no incentive to buy a 3DS save for new Monster Hunter Ultimate.
Look, ranty I know. And I may have rushed that post above over the crappy news. I'm more mad at Nintendo's overall attitude towards gamers and those they want support from. They basically shoot themselves in the foot. A Wii U won't be worth your money till Nintendo manages to release worthwhile exclusives which have already been stated that won't likely be ready if even at 2015... They are dead in the water without a paddle at this point.
Facepalm away, because I've had it with Nintendo's idiocy. Miyamoto *IS* Nintendo. That is rather sad because you know once he's gone... Nintendo will have nothing to get gamers excited over. They are riding on die hard fans and they know it.
They should of waited that extra year for Wii U.
IF it works (hopefully it does but you never know), that's the thing, plus you'd have to have the service in order to get that feature, again, something optional whereas the Wii U is built in and doesn't need anything else, that's the major difference.
I find it interesting that people are using this "Buying stuff based on promises" for the Wii U yet saying nothing about it with the PS4, do you honestly think every feature of the PS4 will be up and running perfectly at launch? That every single game they showed will make it at launch? If they do, more power to them, but it's unrealistic to believe that the system will launch with all these promises delivered.
Again, the Wii U is not "slightly better" than the PS3, it's capable of much more. It may not be the jump the PS4 is taking but it's a jump over the PS3. I didn't say anything about Cloud gaming and even Iwata stated that it's still to early to rely on Could services for the reasons you mentioned. Again, HDDs are MUCH cheaper than propriety internal hard drives which is why Nintendo's giving you the option to purchase that instead of charging you more for internal memory. The Wii U isn't $400, it probably would've been if they included more memory.
If your GamePad breaks and you get charged for it, then it's your fault that it broke. Do you expect to get a free Galaxy Tab if you cracked it due to carelessness?
Nightmare to port games? According to who? FrozenByte Studios (the one behind Trine 2) said they got the game up and running on the Wii U in less than 2 weeks. Another developer (can't remember right now) said it took about twenty minutes to code the GamePad for off screen play. Also I don't see the problem with a straight port and why every port HAS to make use of the system's features. No one complains that the 360 version of a game is pretty much exactly the same as the PS3 so why should it be any different with the Wii U?
Again, ignore the touch screen on the Wii U and what do you have? A standard controller! The Wii U Pro Controller is ultimately only for multiplayer since you still get all the functions of a traditional controller with the GamePad, it's not like the Wii where you had to use either a Gamecube controller or Classic Controller for traditional controls.
No incentive to buy a 3DS? Yet it's the fastest selling handheld of all time with highly anticipated releases like Luigi's Mansion, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Project x Zone along with a great eShop service.
Nintendo's attitude? You mean putting a lot of effort into making the Wii U a worthwhile system along with planning out a steady flow of games when they kick up marketing? Working closely with several 3rd parties as well as making the Wii U/3DS the most appealing consoles for Indie developers to work on (almost every week or two a new Indie game has been announced for either the 3DS or Wii U)? No worthwhile exclusives until 2015? Is Zelda the only worthwhile exclusive you can think of because there are already a handful of excellent looking exclusives coming out this year or at least early next year.
While Miyamoto has played the biggest role in making Nintendo what it is today, he is by no means "Nintendo" itself. You know what the two most highly anticipated Wii U reveals are at E3? Give you a hint, it's not Miyamoto's new IP (that would probably be 3rd), it's Retro's project and Smash Brothers, neither are games under Miyamoto. Nintendo has a great deal of talented developers and Miyamoto is ensuring that all of them are prepared for the day when he retires.
It would've been stupid to release the Wii U a year later because it wouldn't have changed much aside from not allowing them a headstart.

Considering the WiiU's specs I am not surprised. The WiiU is what the Wii should have been at launch of the 360 and PS3, 7 years ago.
