Vince Zampella and Jason West's nascent studio won't have anything on tap during next month's convention.
Earlier this month, Valve Corporation announced it wasn't attending the Electronic Entertainment Expo. Now, another major independent developer has announced that it, too, will be skipping the all-important game industry confab, which runs from June 7-9.
"For those asking, Respawn won't be making any announcements at #E3 this year," read the official Twitter feed of Respawn Entertainment this afternoon. "We will be wandering the floor though!"
Respawn's announcement pushes the reveal of the nascent shop's first title farther into the future. The Los Angeles-based studio was founded in April 2010 following Activision's firing of Infinity Ward's two founders, Jason West and Vince Zampella, for "insubordination" that March. Tit-for-tat lawsuits followed, including one that named Electronic Arts as a co-defendant in a $400 million legal action.
In the weeks after West and Zampella's dismissal, several dozen members of the studio that created Call of Duty jumped ship to Respawn. The exodus became so great that a source close to the studio told GameSpot it has clamped down with a hiring freeze until it can get its finances--backed by seed money from EA--in order.
@ArabrockermanX Not every journalist is paid for their review. I know, I used to be one. I thought the MW3 trailer was fine. We are talking about 5 year old technology. The PS3 & XBox 360 have pretty much reached their peak in graphic quality. There is no excuse for M.A.G., considering how powerful the PS3's Cell is suppose to be. That game was crap in graphics and gameplay for me. BF3 looks awesome as well. I'll be getting both games anyways, as I enjoyed the previous games.
@XanderZane You mean those guys that give out good ratings for perks? Seriously those games are far below first party titles in quality of game all of them are rehashed remakes and its not entirely the remake part of these games that's wrong its that they are remakes that basically don't update anything... Just look at the MW3 trailer the graphics are sub-par for a franchise that is supposed to put out top notch games and its not like MAG where you're sacrificing graphics for more players(even if it sucked) its just cheep development... BF3 does seem to be turning things up a notch though so I they deserve their credit there its probably the only third party shooter Ive been interested in since the original MOH games.

Activision and EA games are a waste of money in my opinion Ive bought enough of their games to know they never make anything worth while. *********************************************************************************** Well both MW and BF games have scored pretty well with critics. I'm guessing they're taking some time to consider what exactly their first game will be. The modern military shooter has become a much more crowded market space than it was even a couple years ago, so they probably want to take some time and figure out how to make a game that will stand out from it's competitors.
Its completely understandable considering they had created the IW CoD engined that was used for MW, MW2, BO and MW3... they will have to create a new engine or use the Frostbite engine so popular in EA games in order to create their IP... or worse (in terms of timeframe) create a new one which I doubt very much considering how great Frostbite is.
Well no Valve no Bungie no Respawn lets hope Insomniac shows what they are working on with EA or have they to said the will not be showing anything regarding there new partnership. I guess that creates more excitement for next years E3 lol.
I'm sure they'll have something to show by next year. There's still a chance they could mention when that might be in an interview or something.
In my opinion, given the amount of time that has passed since Respawn was created I would be doubtful that anything would be ready for viewing at E3. The company was created about a year ago and given that they are involved in a major lawsuit with Activision and needing money for both payroll and startup all they would actually have just ideas and drawings of potential ideas to pursue. I doubt that given all that's going on it would be several years before anything is released from them. However, one thing I do know is that these guys went from one bad studio to another. EA is just as bad as Activision in terms of grueling release timeframes.
to this day its still the same... drama? It's been how many years now..? This is almost as Recycled as all the COD games since COD 4. IRONIC..
We have heard nothing bout this Respawn game that was sopposed to be the best game ever according to these 2 guys. Oh well i have other ga,mes to look forward too.

I really want to hear about the new Nintendo console, and if those rumors about a new Xbox are actually true. I've been holding off buying one this year, this late in the consoles life. I don't want to buy one and hear that a new one is being launched next year.
I don't know, do they even have any money to make a game? Its been over a year, and they haven't announced anything other then lawsuits. Who knows, maybe the only reason EA picked up that team is so they can lead them on thinking they will get a new studio when really all the team members will either be laid off, or shifted to other studios.
"Now, another major independent developer..." Not to to diss Respawn or their EA contract, but isn't a little early to be calling them a "major independent developer". Yeah they have big names behind them but thus far no product, let alone a successful product.
@xanderzane So are you suggesting that they should actually put some thought and effort into their title? That is the only thing required to be better than MW3. As for BF, that's an entirely different story. BF is a FPS but in all respects an entirely different type of game as a whole. Sure there's guns. However, BF focuses more on open warfare, whereas CoD focuses on close quarters reflex based combat. I don't think they have to be better than BF, they just need to bring something new to the table.

Good... this means that they won't be rushing to push out crap every 12 months like how Activision was forcing them to do ~ ultimately making the creation of their own studio mean something
It better be something that is better then BF3 and MW3. If they can't top either of those games, they might as well give up and close shop now.
@ Canadian-Fury...its $500...i would go but i have nobody to go with (none of my friends like video games)...and as for respawn..i would rather they didn't relese games in such a hurry ..we dont want another COD on our hand now do we

Good. At least they don't have to waste 2 months working on something knowingly that the project isn't done by a long shot. As for Valve, I just hope that the next big think they have to show us is the Source Engine 3, running Half-Life 3, or a completely new game, just like id Software chose to go with Rage (new) than another Doom, each I can't wait btw.
Nobody cares about Respawn, the people who made the the stupid MW2 with all its hacks glitches and so on. Now EA can have their own game with all this.Woo hoo! Valve won't be there that's a pity, great studio
I don't know if I'm looking forward to E3 this, Cause I was going to get a digital cable box or satelite so I can get G4 Tech tv so I can watch it, but now it doesn't look worth it.
It's hardly a big studio if they haven't made anything yet. If they've got nothing to show, no point in attending. Good move.
It's not like we need another first person shooter anyway. I'll be happy hearing about Mass Effect 3, Space Marine, SWTOR, Skyrim, and Battlefield 3.
