"Core" games need some sort of controller. Is the Move or Wii controller's the way of doing it? The idea of controller-free is great and there are some really good ideas that have come out (most in the PC world, though). The problem is that people don't want to always be up and moving around everywhere while they relax to play a game. Plus Kinect limits you in what you can do. It takes a drastic amount of memorizing motions and gestures to do simplistic tasks. You can add in a controller and make the experience much better, but then you've killed the idea of controller-free gaming.
Controller-free gaming is not ideal for "core" games. You need the buttons and the precision analogs. You need the pressure-sensitive triggers. Gestures can be implemented in relevant ways into games, but it's going to be hard to find that perfect mix using Kinect in it's current form.
Using only the voice recognition features of Kinect is pathetic. Sure it works well and possibly better than a headset. But Kinect was built to be much more and you're underselling the idea of Kinect to reduce it to a fancy voice command box.
