No customer data compromised in Eve Online/Dust 514 attack

CCP confirms that at no time was customer data compromised or accessible as a result of this weekend's DDoS attack.

CCP has released a statement addressing this weekend's DDoS attack on the Eve Online and Dust 514 servers, ensuring gamers that their personal data was not compromised.

"We would like to stress that at no time was customer data compromised or accessible in any way," CCP chief operating officer Jón Hörðdal Jónasson said.

Jónasson also recounted the events, saying CCP detected the DDoS attack on June 2 and, after consulting with security experts, decided to take all servers offline.

"What we can now confirm is that a person was able to utilize a vulnerability in one of the back-end services that support the operation of the Tranquility server," Jónasson said. "This vulnerability has now been secured and thoroughly tested."

Jónasson explained that CCP is looking into ways to compensate EVE and Dust players for the outage and will announce specific plans "very soon."

"We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of our players on EVE Online and Dust 514 for their patience and understanding during this unexpected downtime and the investigation. We are grateful for your support, as always," Jónasson said.

@Falru They need to tear down their POS servers and anchor them in another system if you know what I mean.

I guess that's what happens when you attract the most unsavory people in gaming and encourage them to get creative...

I'm sure it was someone who just got angry over losing or something.

@AuronAXE there is an interesting theory going around that a certain alliance in game who were going to be besieged in a critical system yesterday pulled this move to buy time.

this is the game where a player who was in the russian mafia plotted to cut off electricity to his opponents house in order to win a battle.

I liked EVE online quite a bit, interesting game play once you get into it and explore the more complex aspects of the game. Too bad this happened, I hope it didn't impact it too much. I kinda wish it would happen to EAs Battlefield / Activision's Call of Duty, those companies have been mistreating me for quite some time now, though I reckon its not very noble for me to say so.

Why attack CCP when evil organization like Microsoft go by unmolested?

@Grimkillah Microsoft could certainly stand to be molested more.

I gave up trying to play the ps3 beta I could never get the damn client to fully download.  It downloads have the client then fails and restarts again from the beginning.  Usually when I have problems just getting a game to even install its not a good sign.
