Nintendo's long-awaited The Legend of Zelda game is now available in stores across North America.

Nintendo has today released The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker in North America following record preorders that will account for more than 600,000 copies of the game flying off store shelves today. In The Wind Waker, Link has the intriguing ability to control wind patterns, which allows him, among other things, to sail the seas by way of air currents, navigate through ocean gales, and even summon cyclones.

"The overwhelming response to the presell program proves there is incredible anticipation for The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker," said George Harrison, senior vice president, marketing and corporate communications, Nintendo of America. "Any Zelda launch is an event and this is no exception. Gamers have been clamoring for this title and it does not disappoint."

He left the UK's Official PlayStation Magazine to join GameSpot in 2000, believes that he's one of the best Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe players in the world, and is still searching for a game that's as good as Paradroid.
