Amazon, GameStop product listings indicate Pikmin 3, New Super Mario Bros. U, and more to cost $100, Nintendo says these are "fictitious" prices.
Retailers Amazon and GameStop are currently listing a range of Wii U titles--including Pikmin 3, New Super Mario Bros. U, Just Dance 4, and Lego City Undercover--for $100, but these prices may not be accurate. In a statement sent to GameSpot, Nintendo said these prices are purely speculation.
"Retailers are beginning their presale activity, but given there is no official software price, they are using fictitious prices," reads a line from the statement. "When software pricing is officially announced later this year, I am sure retailers will adjust their websites to reflect the true price."
The Wii U is due for a worldwide release this holiday season. The system is Nintendo's first high-definition console and is a successor to the Wii, which is the best-selling platform of the current generation. Nintendo has not named a price for the Wii U yet, but company president Satoru Iwata said gamers can expect to pay a "reasonable" amount for the console.
this little kid's articles are all the same...
quit hiring 12-year olds with caterpillars for eyebrows...
The best thing about Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo is that there's three of them. Not one. They compete with each other for business.
That's a good thing.
Nintendo kinda killed my fanboyism with lack of steallar games for hardcore fans on the wii. Hopefully the Wii U brings me back to nintendo. So far they are doing bad with just giving me one reason to own the system..... Pikmin 3. Come on Nintendo gotta try harder then a single game to get me excited to wait in line again on Day one.
WoW Nintendo truly is great!! hence how Sony and Nintendo are free online? Pffft thanks for raping us XBOX and making us think paying is better!!
I bet Nintendo are trolling! I'm a fan on shopping around on Amazon and I've never seen Amazon make a dumb mistake like this. Gamestop are doing the same thing too and that tells me something!
Know what else should be fictitious? The Wii-U. It's going to be a piece of crap like all the other Nintendumb consoles. ;)
Oooh, $100, how scary. Try living in Scandinavia - games ROUTINELY cost $90 on launch-day :POf course, we also get free healthcare and college tuition, so it all balances out somwhere.
@fghtita thats okay you have pretty girls and as u said free healthcare and college tuition so no complaints. and OH! your $90 game will now turn into $150 :)
Yeah, I'm doubting the prices are going to rise that much. Over here in England, pretty much every game sells for about £40 near release, but wii games are notably cheaper. The problems come when a retailer thinks it has a hit; CoDs are selling for about £45-£50 after 6 months of release.
If they got their prices from Australian stores then that might not be so bad. Games here aren't shy of launching at $80 through $110. 3DS games generally $50-60 being reasonable, with $80 being the 'big title' game store price.
I am very worried now for the future of gaming. Not because of this alleged $100 price, but because it seems that very few gamers can actually read. The article clearly states that the prices have not been announced. I work at a GameStop, I know for a fact that the prices aren't actually that high. They're not even estimates. They're random numbers that were filled in. The pre-order sheet lists the Wii U games as "Sega Saturn" games, only it's crossed out with pink marker and Wii U is written under it. It's pretty obvious that no one knows anything about the Wii U yet, as it wasn't even announced. Use those semi-functional goo puddles that you call brains and try not to embarrass yourselves.
most of you have never bought a actual cartridge game have ya ? I remeber the nes sega gen ect going for what ever they wanted to charge for em
the music stores were the worst tho wherehouse sold the snes sf2 original version for 80 even and had lines down the block and phantasy star 4 was 90 (thats when sega decided cartridges were done for ) just cd's were cheap cuase the games were small
Now your getting multi dvd games...
Who would believe Nintendo would sell games at $100 when they have lots of trouble selling them at $50. Nintendo, since they've been in business has always had reasonable prices on games.
Perhaps the new controllers could cost $100 at your local retailer with fat margins for Nintendo and the retailer. Game companies make bank on peripherals and Nintendo is the king of gimmick peripherals. hmm..
The only company that kept their game prices at $50 is now going to charge $100 per games? No one would ever believe that, especially since they sold some of the most software last gen.
@Willy105 actually nintendo was the first system to sell N64 games for $60, as far as I remember.
@jlnkeno That was back in the 90's when games came with cartridges.
Even before the N64, you had games like Final Fantasy 2 which cost like $80 to buy.
Of course, due to inflation and disc being much cheaper, the value of things changed.
Prices of games will be going up in the future due to inflation, but it will be cheaper because the population will make that much more money as well.
That said, going from $50 to $100 in one generation is ridiculous.
"We wanted to see your reaction to the $100 Wii U game pricetag. If enough of you bitch about it then we won't do it."
Too bad you didn't actually read the article, because you obviously don't understand what is going on here. Nintendo didn't set these prices, the RETAILERS listed the games at $100 because they aren't yet sure what the actual MSRP will be. See, the idea is that they list the games at a higher price than what they will actually be, so that they're not forced to adjust prices upwards. Hence, $100 is comfortably well above any price that Nintendo is expected to set them at.
@Nick277 That or drop it down to $99 so that they don't lie and still get to screw us over at the same time.
I just import Wii games anyway. $89-$99 for years-old games? No thanks.
I'm just glad to know that the prices on Gamestop have no facts based on them. Because they worried me.
The real sad bit here is that 2 major game selling sites listed rather outrageous prices without fact checking, with one perhaps blindly copying the other's listings, just like what happens with news these days.
Well 'duh', I'm sure mostly reasonable minded people figured that much anyway, Nintendo. Geez, give some of us a lil' credit.....<_<
Well Amazon can't start their prices lower than the actual pices because of their price promise thing, so they'll always start the prices higher... Only they have nothing to base it on yet, so start it stupidly high and there's no problems.
The 360 the best console ever made? HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! After having 3 ELITE Xboxes give me those 3 little red blinking lights of DEMORALIZATION, I turned over to look at my 10 year old Dreamcast and noticed that IT WAS STILL WORKING!
$100.00 for a wii-u game??? Hell, I wouldn't give that much for the system ROFL. I mean all you're getting is a underpowered system with a touch screen. Big whoop.
Nah. I think I'll stick with the SUPERIOR Xbox 360 console.
The Xbox 360 is the BEST console EVER made. --John Carmack
@buying1999 Carmack is awesome but wha-?
Did you even read the article? I doubt prices will be that high....
And you seem to think the 360 is a powerful system? rofl I have a 4 year old computer that has more power.
That's an old quote.
By the way, the Wii U is more powerful than the 360. Oh, and you're an idiot if you think that the games are going to retail for $100 each.
i need to say this.
are most of you lot brain dead. you pay that much now derp. game + dlc = at least 120 so its actually cheaper.
learn to take a step back and look at the real picture, and as the article states, they are guess and they honestly wont be that much
@chimpdaddy no. just no.
@100proofsoco please explain and show all prices of the games + dlc
otherwise no, just no to you.
game+dlc on games go near 120 when they are first released
@chimpdaddy what kind of DLC are you buying that costs 70 bucks?
@beardednun25 i dont buy it all personally but to name a few
the elder scrolls: oblivion\ (will be for skyrim)
fallout games + dlc (if not brought from ultimate edition)
dragon age 1
mass effect 2 + untold amount for 3 due to cr*p skilled players buying mp stuff rather than using skill.
all COD games
need i go on, the gaming industry is milking people dry without them realising, people can be so blind and willing to bend over.
