NetherRealm bringing water-imbued ninja Rain to 360, PS3 fighter in two weeks for $5; trailer inside.
Mortal Kombat boasted an impressive 27-character roster when it arrived for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in April, but that hasn't stopped NetherRealm from adding new brawlers to the arena. With the blood-soaked Skarlet and blind fighter Kenshi already available, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment said today that gamers can purchase the purple-clad ninja Rain beginning July 19.
Rain has more going for him than just a smirk-inducing Prince reference. The ninja holds a mastery over the element of water, and his mystical powers include being able to levitate enemies in a globe of liquid and calling down a blast of lightning. As seen in Rain's coming-out trailer below, the ninja also has a standard assortment of bone-crunching kicks, punches, and grapples.
Like Skarlet and Kenshi, Rain can be downloaded through Xbox Live or the PlayStation Network for $5 (400 Microsoft points). Xbox 360 gamers have the added option of purchasing the Mortal Kombat season pass, which offers Skarlet, Kenshi, Rain, and an as-yet-unannounced fourth downloadable character for 1,200 Microsoft points ($15).

Do you guys hear yourselves? DLC is too overpriced. Dumb gamer vs. Smart gamer...really? Some make it seem like paying $20 for these players makes you dumb. It's my money. I'm not rich, but I spend my money the way I feel. How about when you buy COD 1- infinity? No one complains to you about playing the same type of game. Give it a rest, people!
I actually don't mind paying $15 for 4 more characters - especially since they look very well done, have new fatalities & the game already came in a healthy sized roster. I agree that its sad the add on's like this are now considered $$$ DLC - but i atleast find this a worthwhile purchase. I'd prefer they do this than release a new game like the CAPCOM series always does - that REALLY sucks

lol i like the way Rain shakes his head when he brings Reptile down to his nees using his water bubble...and anyway, yea @ sirkarl1... there way over price...but they'll never lower the price as long as many people out there are still buying it ...the only way they'll drop the price is if by some slim chance you can get everyone who's buying the DLC to stop until the price is lowered, i don't see that happening lol
@ Breyant Yeah, they didn't exclude (and/or withhold) anything except Skarlett's alternate costume which was leaked before her release, oh and Kenshi whose model can be seen fighting in the background of the Pit, oh and an extremely popular fighter named Rain who should have been in the original roster because he was in UMK3. And i have the game soooooooooooooo...
@parvie While I agree with you about the disturbing trend of DLC and greedy companies, I wonder if you have even played Mortal Kombat. It was by far and away a complete game, offering way more content than pretty much any other fighter, and more than most games in general. The "it's optional" excuse applies to MK because they didn't exclude anything.
I wonder if he'll come with Klassic costumes for the existing characters...and who will have them if so.
Why do people resort to the "it's optional" excuse? I think what they fail to realize is that if this trend continues and devs realize how much people are willing to fork out for overpriced dlc, then future games will have half of their content purposely excluded upon release. Then accessing half of the game will be "optional" and the sheep will still use the same excuse of "you don't have to buy it". Some of you need to wake up and realize that these fighters will give you a boner for about a week and probably get stale soon thereafter. Rant over.
As much as I love Mortal Kombat, SCREW NRS and this overpriced DLC. I'd poop all over both if I could.
Super Street Fighter 4 is so much better online then MK, I forgot how cheap and frustating MK can be.

if i could change one thing about mk, i would be the character select screen, on the 360 i dont like how the have 2 images of cyber sub zero, i think its dumb!
I felt that without DLC the game was complete, each character has its own style and feels and plays entirely different from the others.There a balance between them all and in my very own opinion is the best fighting game i have played in many years. As for DLC I have 3 things to say, first of all its optional, they tried to include every essential character to the game, second NO ONE will ever give you anything for free, not only in gaming industry, and third there is no pleasing when it come to adding EXTRA contenent, for example in MvC3 everyone complains (including me) that there is practically no DLC, while in MK they release 5 extras or DLC (costumes included) in 4 months and every one complains that in not included in the game disk, not to mention that every one wants an early release
ridiculous that they expect you to spend a fiver on an extra character, how much were the extra cars for Burnout paradise? 100 points? 120? surely that works out cheaper doesn't it? they should've waited and released a full pack with more than just 1 character. I wouldn't buy them individually personally
I am one of the biggest hard core fans of MK,especially Mk9,but i am not gonna spend 5 bucks on a character when i can go and get a game 20 dollars and under for the same price as all four characters...and season passes is probably the best shot for anybody at the moment
@bballabarry, Yes, the online pass comes with the game, but that doesn't mean it's free. Its cost is buried in the $59.99 price. You can break down what each element costs separately in a number of ways if you like. You could say that Scorpion costs $50 and everything else is $9.99. Or, that the game is 49.99 and the pass is $10, since separately the pass sells for $10. Of course once the pass is used its value becomes exactly zero dollars. I'm surprised how many people don't know that.
Not sure why people are saying they'll wait for a package deal. The season pass is already such a deal. So far there's been 4 $5 DLC releases (including classic costumes) so everything after Kenshi is savings if you got the season pass. While I wasn't crazy about Skarlet, Kenshi's pretty cool and Raiin looks really cool. I don't mind supporting a title with a bit more cash if they did a good job, and NR made a great MK title. I definitely get a decent amount of time and entertainment out of these new characters so it's worth it for me.
Rain will make a great addition to our MK parties, I think. Skarlet wasn't all too great for me, but Kenshi is still one of my new favorites. I don't play the game online, but offline has been a blast with my friends, so I'm probably going to be picking up the purple ninja day one. I know that people love to complain about the price of DLC, and I know it's trendy to be cheap, but I figure, a total of 20 bucks for four characters and a bunch of costumes for a game that I've sunk 40+ hours into doesn't seem too bad. That's about the equivalent of a tank of gas, and I easily go through that in a week.
I haven't bought Mortal Kombat yet, but I'll wait for a Komplete edition after they finish releasing all these DLCs, hopefully...
Yeeah, it's really expensive, considering that the game cost me about 40 euros. I saw the DLC of the Skins for 3.99 euros. Can't remember now, but I think that in Marvel Vs Capcom 3 is the same price for 1 character. Well, as we know for expensive DLC's we have CoD and his mapacks for 15$ hahaha, Crazy!!!!
No way. This DLC or any of the characters are not worth 5 bucks apiece. 5 bucks for all 3 even seems alittle steep. I would rather see stuff like create a fighter or more game modes with characters included for 5 to 10 bucks. Will not pay these prices. No way. It is sad that this is all they can come up with, even more sad that there this greedy.
instead of fixing the online system which is broken for almost 3 months now. they'd rather patch out combos and milk us for more money with DLCs (while we still didn't get our full value from buying the retail game). this will not stand, i'm not buying any DLC until online play has been properly fixed, until i stopped being thrown out of 4 games in a row, until the frame rate in online matches stablizes and until the lag during gameplay is eliminated. I urge you to do the same if ur tired of being duped like this.
Rain is the only character im getting. He's the only character from the original trilogy thats not there. So yes he's getting bought. But the other 3 imma pass on. $5 bucks is an insult 2 the gaming community. I shouldnt buy Rain cuz of the price point but like i said he should've been in the game from the start.

well I was thinking about buying this game, but not now that I see they are charging 5 dollars for extra fighters that is worst then paying 15 for 4 multiplayer maps and a new zombie map.....what is this gaming world coming to?
