Next Mass Effect game will be 'fresh and new'

BioWare executive producer Casey Hudson says next game in series will offer new ideas; feature film with Legendary remains in production.

BOSTON--Today during a presentation at PAX East, BioWare executive producer Casey Hudson said the next entry in the Mass Effect franchise will be "fresh and new." This game will be primarily developed by BioWare Montreal and Hudson will serve as the game's executive producer.

"We are starting to get ready to develop another Mass Effect game and it's going to be a new thing," Hudson said. "We want to be able to give fans an opportunity to get back into the world with these things you've come to know and love about the Mass Effect experience, but start something fresh and new; a new way for you to explore the whole universe in Mass Effect."

In addition, Hudson today confirmed that the Mass Effect movie with Legendary Pictures remains in production, though no release date or casting details were divulged.

"Hopefully it should be seen as a good thing," Hudson said of the movie. "Because what we're looking at are, I think, the right things to make sure it's going to be great. It's not just going to be a movie. It's going to be really special."

Lastly, Hudson reiterated that BioWare is working on an all-new intellectual property. Specific details on this project were not mentioned, though Hudson said he hopes this project could match the trajectory of the Mass Effect series.

"That's kind of our next thing. We're focusing on delivering something new, the way we did at the very beginning of Mass Effect," Hudson said.

BioWare also confirmed today that 82 percent of all Mass Effect 3 gamers play a male Commander Shepard.

I want to see a type of RPG completely different from its predecessors, and freedom to choose your species etc.

but what i want most of all is for bioware to make drew karpyshyn write more books about the quarians and autistic biotic girls.

Just Send in the Clone! and there you have another Mass Effect trilogy and nothing lost

Just stop with the feedcrap and MAYBE the next trilogy can do it fine. But Casey, dont speak like you got everything ready as a boss. Just admit it, things went wrong and they are currently outnumbered even after Citadel's DLC. In fact, this pay-me-more for an already brought dvd is already a bad looking thing. Sorry but that is the truth.

Sorry but after the endings of ME3 last year, and then they try to something new that there is a strong chance that they will just sink this series any deeper. I say stop development on it.

Hm, as much as I loved Mass Effect games, I don't think that I'm really looking forward to this one. The gameplay got progressively worse as the series aged with the third game being almost boring, the lackluster story didn't help much either(or lack of it if you're playing ME3.) Just let it die as one of the greatest series of its' time, no need to drive it into the ground.

I thought ME3 was supposed to be a conclusion to the series... no?

@Dalpin @Bumblebee1138 wouldn't have been surprised if that was him laying in the rubble of some part of the citadel that hadn't been repaired (maybe the part where the crucible fired)

@Bumblebee1138 At the end of Mass Effect 3 if you have downloaded the movie pack, then if you had chosen to destroy the reaper's, then Shepard would lie in some ruins and breath, then the game ended.

So it clearly follows on to more games of the Mass Effect series.

@Bumblebee1138 At the end of Mass Effect 3 if you have downloaded the movie pack and have chosen to destroy the Reaper's, then you would see Commander Shepard lying in come ruins and breathing just before the game ended.

so they definitely wanted the game somehow to continue.

@Bumblebee1138 But that was a new IP.. Crysis was also fresh, number 2 wasn't.. Same with Dead Space, same with The Sims and Battlefield (recently).. The only sequel I can recall that felt new was Burnout: Paradise.. But I should have made myself more clear.. Fair point, but I meant in terms sequels

they should make a new IP but with similar elements.

I hope the next game will be a prologue that will let us use krogan, turian, asari and other races before the story of Commander Shepard. You guys know what I mean??

@Shango4

Mass Effect 3 was never about the destination, but the journey along the way.

Also, the entire game is the ending, not the last 10 minutes.

johnnievflores1

@Shango4 @johnnievflores1  I dont know. But wouldn't it be cool that we could use a turian or human during the 1st contact war or the war between krogans and turians

"Fresh and New" Yes, full of EA greed driven DLC and Multiplayer crap.

I honestly hope they use a female protagonist for the movie. I know they probably wont but it would  just be a nice slap in the face for all those people that missed the greatness of the female Shepard voice actor

If it's so fresh and new why use Mass Effect as the title?

Very excited for the next game. Mass Effect is definitely my favorite series of games. I'm just hoping that they make these next games in the right time period and place and not have it interfere with the original trilogy. Glad to hear the movie is still in the works also. A Mass Effect movie has a lot of potential.

The next Mass Effect will be another cookie-cutter shooter with "amazing" graphics.

To be realistic, I'm going to predict that the next Mass Effect game will be amazing regardless of all the complaining. Even 3 was good up until the very end, though the whole game had too much of a sad tone. That would have made sense with some other series, but ME1 and 2 were much more balanced. A whole new story line should change that.
