Beta for patch opens in July; Road to Jalalabad map, tuning, various bug fixes "only a small portion" of updates.
The Digital Illusions CE Battlefield Team has revealed that a new patch for the wildly popular PC shooter Battlefield 2 is in the works. On the official Battlefield 2 page, a post in the Community Update section gives cybersoldiers their first taste of what to expect in the next update.
The biggest addition to the game will be the Road to Jalalabad map, which has been running on test servers. The map, which wasn't detailed, will be free of charge and not part of a booster pack. In addition to the map, the usual array of gameplay tuning, bug fixing, and issue resolving are "only a small portion" of the changes being made, with more details expected to be announced in the future.
The open beta test for the patch will be scheduled for July. DICE did not mention any specific time frame for the patch's release.
Battlefield 2 is rated T for Teen and retails for $39.99. For more information on the game, check out GameSpot's review.
whoever thinks the 360 version is better than PC, they need to get their s**t together. Lets just start with the basics.....the 360 itself sucks, it was released WAY to early making it not as good as it nearly could have been. Microsoft just wanted that early jump ahead of Sony. But because the PS3 is taking their time with their new upcoming machine, it is going to be very very nice. It may be expensive but at least you're not getting ripped off. The 360 was just another disappointment. Could'a, would'a should'a, but didn't. The PC version of BF2 may have its downsides and crap but at least it still manages to be one of the greatest games made for PC. Many of you may think i'm trying to say that 360 sucks and PC rocks......incorrect. No console will overpower the online gaming capacity of PC. PS3 may come close or parallel but not better. And for those of you who keep saying that the comms on the PC are "slow and ruin the flow of the game"........be like me, go buy a 3 thousand dollar PC and play it for yourself. You don't know s**t.
Why is everyone calling each other 360 fanboys or PC fanboys?Who really cares?BOTH versions are great.I prefer the pc one simply because I have a very potent PC.Which cost me a lot of money.A helluva lot more than the 360 version. Both have advantages and disadvantages.Sometimes I like too sit on my couch and kick some BF2 @$$!Anyone who argues which is better is a geek. They are simply catered too a different audience. So lets just get along and and realize BF2 simply rocks,no matter the version.I have said my peace
hopefully the lost of connection bug i keep getting from the 1.5 patch will be sorted, cause its really annoying, still a new map will be good if servers use it that is! still look forward to new ways to improve
They should fix the game first, but, maybe they realized that they owe these gamers a little bit more if nothing else and decided to give a new map. Anyone playing xbox 360 should try a cpu or at least stop saying they know what they're talking about. No comparison PC is way better.
i really hate this term "owns" but im sure 99% of the gaming comunity deepdown knows all to well that PC "owns" FPS anyone who doesnt agree with this hasnt used a mouse to aim with (spray and pray, hadnt heard that one before, sums it up nicely) But surely the most devoted console fanboy would have to have noticed the amount of FPS games on PC, there really is no argument here, i might aswell hitback with something im sure most PC gamers will agree with, the funny thing about xbox360 fanboys is that they have been sold a PC and dont even realise it (patches for games?) you call that a console? to bad if your not online lol PS ever since EA took up the role of distriputing other game companies titles their reputation has gone throught the floor PPS love Battlefield 2 , hate the bugs
I need to start playing this game more often, but reading all the BS I remember sorta why I took a break from it.
Chubbums Wrote: Yes badges, ribbons, and medals do show that you have skill, if it didn't then every BF2 player would have gotten them all by now. Although some are just given due to playing a certain amount of time with a certain army, others like the BF2SF badges require 44 kills in a round. Fanboyism maybe blinding you because piloting a Heli requires skill, Jets are a little easier but still require skill (i.e. Dogfights). Like any FPS that has tanks you will also have tankwhores. Taking out tankwhores is so easy, I mean if you die just respawn as Anti Tank, only noobs continue to play the same kit and expect their team to take care of everything for them. I completely agree with you anyone that plays bf2 on a console is a stupid noob who needs to play a FPS on a pc n see what gaming is all about
BF2 on the PC requires skill unlike 360 games which are built for noobs who just spray.
ah ha ah hahahahahhahahaaaaaaa I don't know what game you're playing, but BF2 on the PC requires as much skill as going to a heli or plane, pressing E, and whoring everything or infantry, skill being... press z instantly and shoot randomly? maybe... APC whoring skill? getting badges does not mean the game requires skill... quite the opposite, really
QUOTE DDX2: does anyone notice how racist this map name sounds? Jalalabad sounds like something from Team America Jalalabad is a city in Afghanistan you ignorant moron. Try learning some geography before you talk.
LOL. There is communications on Battlefield 2 PC. You console fan boys would be amazed what PC's can do that consoles can't.
unlike the pc version, i can at least speak to my teamates on the 360. On the PC you have to type and that so ruins the flow. On multiplayer the XBOX multiplayer owns the PC because comunication is faster just like the action
Spoken like a true idiot fanboy. PC has VOIP you dumb **** just like your precious 360. If by faster action you mean "spray and pray catch a random hs" thats because console version is more arcade style. BF2 on the PC requires skill unlike 360 games which are built for noobs who just spray. BF2 for the PC: 9.3 BF2MC for the 360: 7.5 Hmm... Yeah apparently the 360 version is superior in the eyes of fanboys.
"The map, which wasn't detailed, will be free of charge and not part of a booster pack." OH WOW THANKS EA & DICE FOR THIS FREE MAP you should be making maps left and right here come on dam
Yeah, you can talk to teammates on the PC version too you nubtard. Besides, there's no action on the 360 version-it just straight up sucks.
Finally a free new map! Cause we all know that special forces expansion was total guff!! Hopefully itll get me back into the game!!

thats nice, hope red tag is fixed... also before u noobs start defending EA, remember DICE made this game possible, we love DICE. EA is butchering this game to make money, we hate EA. Learn the difference noobs.
syber_jedi : You bring up some good points, and most people fail to realize those very issues that you brought up. However, I share my general love/hate discontent with DICE/EA BF2. How could such a great game, from the same geniuses behind Rallisport Challenge 1&2, be so buggy and inefficient? EA. EA has been wringing BF2 like a rag for money. While these patches update gameplay balances and add some content, it seems that EA is putting more priorty on these sleazy "booster" packs that do nothing to improve this game that STILL feels like it's a Beta build. Also, while games sometimes have to be released before they're ABSOLUTELY 100% stable (for the PC, anyway), that doesn't mean that you can change your priorities without offending your fan base. Look at Valve. I've seen SO many upgrades to Source, CSS, HL2, DoD, etc and they PERFECT the build first BEFORE adding content. Now Source based games run silky smooth. Whereas BF2 feels like falling downstairs. Okay I'll shutup now.
If they would just fix the game servers crashing every 2 minutes I would be pleased. We loose 500 points a day on that. Small patch NOW. Forget about the map.
BNOv5 Death_Masta187 so you paid 50 for one map LOL ahh Daniel son wax on wax off ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- What are you talking about? Well I guess I must start smoking crack to understand what you are trying to say...
Chubbums ^^Most people who play Halo2 and suck at FPS's will say NOOBish comments like that^^ ------------ I hate Halo and halos 2 so don
for pics of the real Jalalabad check the site below out. http://www.defenselink.mil/afghanistan/gallery-jalalabad.html As far as why game developers release buggy games: Rude2908, your summation is not taking into account many things. I'll cover two good ones right here. 1. Game developers are on a deadline to release the game on time.So they get it working as best they can and as bug free as possible. Sometimes it is their fault for not getting bugs fixed, but better a working game then the crap we've been dealing with when it comes to games like Duke Nukem Forever. 2. Comparing physical goods with digital is more than just comparing apples and oranges, it like comparing Apples to a praying mantis. While a motorcycle can be complex, most of it's parts a pre built, and if something doesn't fit quite right you lathe it down or in some way fix it. Computer programs like games take up millions of lines of code. text. and it can be frikin hard to figure out where the problem is. Doesn't mean there haven't been examples of other games in the past with purly shotty programing errors that you know are an easy fix. Thank God they do patch, otherwise we'd be stuck with a game as it was during release. Yay for a new map. Could use more, but it's still a kick-ass game.
wait so if beta testing is in july does that mean we have to deal with the bugs in 1.3 for another month or two? Also yay for the free map!
While I'd love to play a new map, I don't really care that they're releasing it since nobody will vote to play it. I'm SO SICK of playing BRIDGE2FAR and BACKSTAB... Let's mix it up, people... There's like 15 more maps or something.
If you were to go out and buy anything other than software, such as a car, motorbike, PC, XBox, and it did not work straight off then you would demand your money back. Why do software houses think it is ok to release half baked programs that they know hav 100's, 1000's, 10,000's known bugs and then and endless procession of patches to sort thier shoddy workmanship, and why do we the public just let them off with it? Great news about the map though!!!
dkpunk: "Wait they made a PC version of this? " i'm sorry but that was the stupidest question i've ever heard in my life.
