NewsSpots: Sylpheed, Go! Puzzle, D&D: Tactics, Brothers in Arms, Fish Tycoon

Space shooter golden, demo'd; PlayStation Store updated; Kuju RPG gets promoted; WWII comic incoming; Fish sim swims to handheld.

Project Sylpheed hits XBL today, retail July 10
Released last year in Japan, Project Sylpheed was confirmed to be coming to US shores this summer. Microsoft has today announced the game has gone gold and will ship out July 10. A demo for the game is also available today over Xbox Live. Clocking in at 613MB, the demo features a single mission and players will be given an expanded arsenal of weapons. It also includes a full tutorial and a trailer for the full game. Project Sylpheed is a reimaging of the classic arcade space shooter and features a full graphical update and more than 50 minutes of CG cutscenes. The game is rated T for Teen and will retail for $39.99.

Go! Puzzle, Hot Rod appear on PSN
Sony's PlayStation Store will be updated with two bits of content today. The first, Go! Puzzle, is a set of three puzzle games: Swizzle Blocks, Aquatica, and Skyscraper. The puzzle games can be downloaded as a set for $6.99, or individually for $2.99 each. All three games feature a three-minute demo and leaderboards. The second update to the Sony's store is a trailer for Hot Rod. The upcoming stuntman comedy stars SNL funnyman Andy Samberg and is set for a theatrical release on August 3.

Atari launches D&D: Tactics site
Unlike Kuju's recent bout of real-world role-playing, its upcoming role-playing game has received a face on the Internet. Atari today announced the official Dungeons and Dragons: Tactics Web site has gone live. Visitors to the site can find videos, screenshots, and artwork for the upcoming RPG, as well as a discussion forum. The newest content to the promotional site includes a new trailer for the game as well as updated screenshots. Dungeons and Dragons: Tactics is set to hit the PlayStation Portable on July 17.

Gearbox signs Dynamite comic deal
Gearbox's Brothers in Arms is no stranger to cross-promotion. Today, the company announced it had signed on Dynamite Entertainment to create a comic-book tie-in for the next iteration in its WWII first-person shooter series. While Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway will be the primary focus of the comic, the deal allows Dynamite to draw upon storylines from prior games in the series. Like its electronic counterpart, a firm date for release on the comic has not yet been set. Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway is slated for a Q4 release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

Majesco brings aquatic sim to DS
Earlier this week, Majesco entertainment announced it would be bringing the management-minded Fish Tycoon series to the Nintendo DS. Originally developed by Last Day of Work and published by Big Fish Games for the PC in 2005, Fish Tycoon lets you raise, breed, and care for their own finned menagerie. Accolades for the game include the 2006 iParenting Media Award, and it was also ranked in the casual games top 10 for 40 weeks last year, making it one of 2006's most popular casual games. Earlier today, Majesco released its Q2 financial results, reporting a $1.3 million loss, despite increased revenues.

Tom Magrino has covered the games industry since 2006. He's been compared to Steve Martin by Ozzy Osbourne and Daniel Craig by Tim Schafer. His voice, heard largely on GameSpot's podcast, recalls that of Kermit the Frog. It ain't easy bein' Magreen.

fish tycoon is fun for the first 30 or so minutes you play it for the pc. nothing quite as boring as breeding fish and taking for ever to grow them. unless you buy growth hormone .

Masterliono I downloaded Go puzzle today, just wanted to mention that its price is $5.99 not $6.99 for all three games as mentioned in the article. Yep, I did the same... also, all 3 games have online multiplayer (and at least 2 have video chat as well) not just leaderboards...

Sylpheed for 360 actually looks to be a nice transition from an old on-rails shooter, and an even older top-down shooter. Check out some vids of it and it looks like a fun console space shooter, something we haven't seen in quite a while. It looks like Xenosaga's cinematic space battles, but you actually control the ship. Anyone from back in the days of the CD revolution will remember that Sylpheed was a very hyped-up game for the Sega CD that featured 3D graphics and looked phenomenal at the time for a console.

Looking forward to Dungeons and Dragons: Tactics for PSP. Hoping it turns out good. I'm in need of a good RPG for the PSP.

the demo surprised last night (it being there). Not as much as last week with Vampire's Rain and Overlord demos. Still a nice surprise.

Hot Rod looks funny, like that stupid funny kind of funny

Um... Project Sylpheed is being published by Square Enix, not Microsoft. Look at the boxart, it's Xbox.com page says so too.

Project Sylpheed was a lot of fun. It's fast, crazy chaotic, and intense. There's a lot going on. So many people won't be able to handle it. But if you get the hang of the system, and use the tutorial you pick up on it fast. And the fact that it is $40 makes it an easy buy for me.

Fish Tycoon? I find this oddly compelling and may have to track down that PC game.

Project Sylpheed isn't that great - can give this a miss.
