New Zealand man chooses jail over Xbox

New Zealand prisoner under house arrest asked to serve out the remaining month of his sentence in prison because he had run out of Xbox games to play.

A 19-year-old man under house arrest in Whangarei, New Zealand has pleaded with police to serve out the final stretch of his 11-month sentence in jail because he was "sick of playing Xbox."

Regional newspaper The Northern Advocate reports (via NeoGAF) that the man rang police on Tuesday to say he had "run out of Xbox games to play" and would breach his home detention if he wasn't placed in jail to serve out the remaining month of his sentence.

The man is now serving in Northland Region Corrections Facility, which serves 548 prisoners and ranges from minimum to high security detention.

The Northern Advocate reports that judges in New Zealand's Northland region have said home arrest is not as easy a sentence as it might sound.

Under the house arrest laws in New Zealand, prisoners are required to stay indoors and are placed under electronic surveillance. The maximum sentence for house arrest under New Zealand law is 12 months.

Guess he never heard of TV, indoor exercise, and house dates.

And in jail the police will force him to play kinect games like "Steel Batalion" ,  "Kinectimals" and "Star Wars Kinect".

Well there's a bonus for the Xbox One!  With the always on Kinnect, imagine how much money law enforcement could save on electronic monitoring!

@BattleStarX Now I know the real target audience of Xbox One, 19 years old guys who are house arrested.

Man this guy has had the life if all he had to do was stay indoors and play video games!

He should have bought a PS3 then!

@garysingh34 -.- the problem was he ran out of games, it wasn't said how many he had, as he was in house arrest for 12 months he prolly didn't have any income to waste on games.

Ok... here:

Step 1: Get someone to buy you a PC (a cheap, shitty one will do)

Step 2: Get League of Legends or other MMOs

Step 3: Play said MMO and before you realise it your 11 month sentence will feel like a week.

I mean... who gives up gaming because they ran out of console games?

I get it if you "got sick of games", but a lifetime is not enough to "run out of games". Even if you don't want to spend a penny...

Geez what on earth is Microsoft up to these days, are they just brainwashed or just trying to gain more attention somehow?

Hope MS doesn't see this article....the next thing ya know, they will be working with law enforcement to have Kinect watching you instead of a ankle bracelet...

I could play Ps3 games for a year no problem. Sure I wouldn't feel very productive but all in all it would be a piece of cake.

I'm sure he was sick of a lot more than just his Xbox while stuck in a house for 10 months. This is just another article to beat on Xbox when its already on the ground suffering.

I don't know if this is funny or sad.

It's funny because ... it's funny. It's sad because this world is going to hell. You know, if you are forced to live 12 months inside your house and you don't have a job to attend to and someone else is taking care of the shopping and so, you could actually put that time to good use.

You could exercise, read even one book per month, write a God damn book in 12 months of doing nothing.

Or you could watch the top 250 IMDB movies, etc.

Damn, some people are really, really stupid. I wish people remembered that there are other things to do in life than work and playing on the XBOX, poor idiot bastard.
