Company general manager says studio has plans for next game in the series, as well as brand new IP set in fictional universe.
BioWare founders Greg Zeschuk and Ray Muzyka left the role-playing game studio today, but that does not mean the company is slowing down. Studio general manager Aaryn Flynn announced today that BioWare, under the direction of producer Casey Hudson, has plans for an additional "full" Mass Effect game.
Flynn did not divulge any concrete details regarding this project, but called on fans to offer up their own ideas for where the Mass Effect series should go next. Mass Effect 3 executive producer Michael Gamble teased in February that BioWare has "so much to draw from" for a future Mass Effect game.
Additionally, Flynn announced that Hudson is also presently leading a team that is assembling the vision for an all-new game set in a fictional universe. This project is being built from the bottom up, he said, running on "new gaming technology." Further specifics were not mentioned, but he may be referencing new platforms from Microsoft and Sony, which are rumored to be on store shelves during the back half of 2013.

If and only if they have learned that their "artistic vision" of their ending was horrible and need to go back to the extremely high quality game design of everything else in Mass Effect then it may be something to consider, but won't be preordering this time due to their major screw up.
Prequels baby, prequels. A trilogy based on Anderson and his whole backstory with apearances of a young sheperd of course.
I would like to see a Miranda game. Perhaps they could start just before her Cerberus career, then jump to the middle of said career, then a mission during ME3 hunting for info on her father's indoctrination research, then have a free-lance mission or two after ME3. Her powers and agility(ability to jump around maybe?) could increase over those few periods. She was engineered to develop her skills just above peak human ability as I understood it. I'm not sure which ending is canon, but they could figure something out if they wanted to set a mission post ME3. Just a thought, as I think she's an interesting character.
I can't wait, I'm already excited about this game. It's too bad some people let 5 minutes of the game they don't like turn them off from the 120+ other hours...but Bioware definitely has a lot they could draw from. It'd be awesome to fight the First Contact War, perhaps from both sides. Or the Rachni War, stomping out bugs on toxic worlds. Or maybe the Geth War, if only to see unmasked Quarians. Or it could be a sequel to ME3; after all, in the extended endings, Admiral Hackett says that the mass relays are "badly damaged," which is video game-speak for "easily repairable." So the series could continue in that way. Sorry for the long post, I just get really excited about the Mass Effect series.

the some people are a lot of people and for them it was never just about the 5 minutes in the game that put them off. as usual there is a lot more to the mass disappointment 3 than meets the eye to the newcomers.

Yes, there is a lot of stories in the ME universe that can be games. But i will love to see something far far in the future. So we can learn about new things in this universe. New Dramas and stories. New threats and enemies. Dont get me wrong, i love this game but i want something that i never heard before. Because althought i know that those stories can be greatin a game i already know how they end. (First Contact War, Rachni Wars, the revelion of the Geths, etc)
But anyway i know that watever they came to, it will be great and i will buy it XD. I just hope that they keep the RPG elements and hurry up because i already want it!!!
2 Like There is so much potential! The Mass Effect universe that we currently have has much to draw from. They could do the First Contact War, the Rachni Wars, working as as a Spectre for the Council, hell even working for the Illusive Man as a Cerberus employee is a viable option. The potential for good settings and stories continues to add up.

Peter Moore gave Aaryn Flynn a copy of this excerpt from his book of business strategies and said "so, how about a new Mass Effect?"
The Westwood Solution:
1) Find a smaller gaming company whose franchises can carry sales by titles alone.
2) Buy out the shares of the executives and get controlling interest in the company.
3) Force those same executives out by imposing deadlines to game releases. Spend 8-9 figures on promotions and advertising to enforce deadlines.
4) Recycle new releases on the franchises until they no longer churn a profit.
5) Liquidate the company into a division of EA. Name it "EA: (Region/City/Country)". Offer bonuses to all executives assisting in the transition.
4 Like Sorry, but Mass Effect 3 ruined the ME experience for me...no more MEs for me, especially since they will be online-only (which my internet connection will not support). No more Dragon Age games, either, if they are online-only...the pillars are falling one by one, as their worshipping of the false god Online-Only burns their lives into obsolesence. Let the age of independent developers and single-player gaming begin. Down with EA and their foolish ilk.

Well this isn't going well. Mass Effect Franchise going the same route as COD after two key executives left who were mainly responsible for quality games. Hopefully Casey Hudson isn't trying to compete with Bobby Kotick.
I think they fixed the ending somewhat in the exteneded cut of the game which was my only problem. And why not make another mass effect? what was so bad about three other than the original endings. I mean I wouldn't mind playing in the distant future with the red ending of me3, play Shepherd again or play the game from another one of the characters perspectives. What would be so bad about it? the latter be more unlikely.

IF they really want to make it good. They should give me the option on choosing a different race this time around. Maybe even the option of choosing a different last name.

@terps90 First off, I don't want Shepard to be a playable character in the next game series. Second off, your characters looks in the games after this next one would depend on if you ported your character or not. Third off, we don't even know if they plan on having a re-occurring main character yet.
2 Like i hope the next game takes place at 70 years after ME3 when they finally get out of the milky way galaxy and meet more alien species and encounter enemies far more deadlier than reapers.

Where do you go to post ideas? I was thinking maybe they could talk about a different universe like the main character coming from a different universe like andromeda galaxy.
3 Like "all-new game set in a fictional universe" - I kind of want them to create a game based on the ME universe from the first game. Instead of the ME universe from the 2nd and 3rd games. You know the universe that had unlimited ammo (no clip hunting) and a story that wasn't contrived by monkeys.
Waiting for others to give me feedback on quality before I buy this one, who knows what EA might pull this time?
1 Like I'm surprised people don't understand that in a way, Mass Effect ITSELF was exactly what they are trying to do. They've done it before, I don't see why they can't do it again.
If you've played KOTOR series, you know that the Mass Effect series was what they were trying to do now (start a new IP), back then.
In other words, this will be the 2nd time they do this. The first time, they created the Mass Effect series.
Hell the first Citadel in Mass Effect 1 was pulled directly from the KOTOR series.
So they created a new IP from a core that was already set before, THAT time, they were departing away from the Star Wars franchise. Now they'll be departing away from the first Mass Effect trilogy.
Somehow I know this departure won't be as hard as the first departure. What's better? They've done it before and had great success with it. So they have a tried and true formula for doing so. Trying to setup something new outside of the Star Wars franchise was much riskier than trying to set something up after the Mass Effect trilogy....and of course after players had played these other franchises.
The player interactions and decision making, being good or bad, fun quests, set in a sprawling lifelike universe is something they're good at. Now they have a legion of fans who've come to love the Bioware KOTOR/Mass Effect experience.
They'll create a new story, with new characters, new universe, with a whole lot of the familiar feel that we loved.
Again if you don't know their style, you've also seen it in Star Wars the Old Republic. So KOTOR/SWTOR/Mass Effect all have common areas that overlap. You can bet that overlap and then some will be in the new franchise.
Personally I can't wait.

Yeah, the first series was great but it definitely got a bit stale. Let's hope they can come up with some better ideas or I don;t think it'll last to season 4.
