Nintendo's plumbers to stay in the pipes for another week; DS game now scheduled for May 21.
DS owners can't wait to get their hands on the next likely blockbuster from Nintendo. The problem is they're going to have to--and now a week longer than previously expected.
The official Web site for New Super Mario Bros. now lists May 21 as the game's release date. This is the third "new" release date the game has had in just over a month, slipping from May 7 to May 15, and now to the 21.
Nintendo brings the plucky plumber siblings back to their roots in New Super Mario Bros., abandoning a 3D perspective for 2D side-scrolling action like the 1985 classic Super Mario Bros. Like several Mario-themed games before it, New SMB begins with eternal enemy Bowser kidnapping Princess Peach...again.
The game isn't strictly a throwback to the old school. Mario will have several new abilities, such as a move that allows him to break blocks below him, and new power-ups to pick up. There is also a competitive mode that pits brother against brother, as well as several minigames to play.
Though Nintendo hasn't announced a reason for the game's delays, the Nintendo faithful who frequent the message boards speculate that the company is timing the game's release to coincide with the North American debut of the DS Lite.
New Super Mario Bros. is rated E for Everyone and will retail for $34.99. For more information on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
LOL hate's a pretty strong word. I share some sentiments but i'd rather say dislike or envy. anyway i'm pumped for this game, seldom do i got that anxious/happy feeling by just looking at a game (time before this was LoZ:TP and before that I cannot recall at all)
So, the release date is the same for the non-US world? Just guessing since there's no region specified anywhere.. That's what we get for letting US people hog all the video game sites I guess. (I'm european so, naturally, I hate americans..)
In my opinion, there's only one reason why the new Mario game has been delayed: BECAUSE OF THE IDIOTIC DS LITE! I don't have a DS or DS Lite yet, but intend to get an older DS soon, I just prefer it to the newer model. However the Lite still manages to be a thorn in my side by delaying one of the most exciting games I have seen! This is blatantly going to happen with Zelda too...They will probably be bringing out the DS Lite SP by then... Get your act together Nintendo...
IM SHOCKED. SHOCKED I TELL YOU. nintendo is ACTUALLY releasing its two biggest franchises already? first METROID HUNTERS and now MARIO BROTHERS. and then they will come out with a new zelda (supposedly) later this year. THIS IS SHOCKING. has someone kidnapped the nintendo that normally delays their biggest titles by at least a week after theyre completely finished? just so they could have something to release every 6-12 months? i just hope they dont shove mario up every other games behind after this. cause theyve actually used up their three franchises after zelda for the ds this year.
I just hope they put out the Nintendo DS lite soon I want one already , but I will not buy a regular ds knowing their is a better version out.
I dont really like the 3D marios... but the 2D ones were classic hits! even the quality of them! now there is a new one coming to DS... sweet!
My god, when will they stop making Mario and try something new? Even the Revolution is filled with Mario. We need a NEW franchise. I cant understand how people still go and buy Mario games.
ZELDA IS FINALLY OUT!!!! FINALLY AFTER SOO LONG OF WAITING FOR TEH DS VERSION!!!!! (friend whispers into my ear) "whats that about it not being zelda? mario? ehhh ill buy it.
Ahhhh, another week? It is so hard waiting for this game and another week is hard. I am getting this the day it comes out(which will probably be 5/22 here since 5/21 is when it SHIPS).
IMO 2d Mario was always better than 3d Mario, so for me this game will be > SM64. I haven't played it but given that and the fact that Nintendo would not mess up a game in this franchise, especially the 1st new 2d Mario in >10 yrs, I can safely say it is better for those who prefer 2d Mario and maybe those who are impartial.
I would play it if I had a Nintendo Ds. but I haven't had any nintendo system sense my gameboy color.
I can't wait to get me hands on a copy. Of course I still have 3 other DS games I haven't completed yet but oh well...not everything is going to be finished before moving on to the next
