oh, one more thing, pls children, the WoW vs GW debate is a useless waste of space. Often the argument erupts in game, and if you ask me to change one thing about GW, i would have to have a anti-GW-vs-WoW emote. Different games for different ppl. It makes me laugh when ppl think that their opinion is the word of god. Its not.
Stand-alone spin-off to ArenaNet's PC online game hits stores in late April; Factions adds new missions, continent, character classes.
Fans of Guild Wars looking for a new world to run amok in won't have to wait too long. Guild Wars Factions, the second title from developer ArenaNet, will be released on April 28. The game, published by NCsoft, will be released in two editions: a standard edition and a collector's edition.
Factions, an online PC game, adds to the Guild Wars universe but does not require the original Guild Wars to play. The new title takes place on the continent of Cantha, which was inspired by the real-life continent of Asia, and features a new storyline. Like its predecessor, Factions will let players compete in player-versus-player battles, join forces with other factions in large-scale wars, and work together in some new cooperative challenges.
The game's North American collector's edition features a CD of the game's soundtrack, a double-sided poster, an art book, a desk calendar, a mouse pad, a sticker set, and a special in-game emote for the game's new classes, the assassin and the ritualist.
Guild Wars Factions is rated T for Teen and retails for $49.99 for the standard edition or $69.99 for the collector's edition. There is no monthly subscription for the game. For more details on the original or the Factions, check GameSpot's previous coverage or head over to the game's official Web site.
I think the term MMORPG is a bit misleading. Those looking for a free WoW look elsewhere. Personally i have played GW for just over 6 months now, and it is only really beggining to wear thin on me. This update seems to be timed perfectly. Quite frankly however, PvP is where GW shines. Continual updates means the games proffesions and skills are rarely unbalanced, and the wide skill level of players means that even as a begginer you will still manage to get kills. Graphically and artisically the game is among the best, and the sound, especially the amazing music score is brilliant. I suppose there is no way of knowing if you will like this game. It was my first MMO (altho i have played EvE online and WoW to date) and my favorite thus far. I bought initialy becuase of good reviews, and becuase i fancied a bit of the multiplayer co-op experience. Very quickly you find out that GW, while not as expansive as other MMOs, has great depth in its PvP routes. The PvE campaign really serves as a tutorial for the bigger PvP world, which may be simple (all characters are the same level) but the whole is much greater than the sum of its parts. This is especially fitting as the addition of 2 new proffesions to make 8, seems to be a small increase. Bear in mind however that a character consists of both a primary and secondary proffesion, and you can see that many new combinations are available.
I play Guild Wars and/or World of Warcraft whenever I have the time to. But I would always turn to Guild Wars because of how much progress you can make in an hour compared to WoW where you could still be looking for a group for an instance. Comparing Guild Wars and World of Warcraft is criminal. They are two completely different games, completely different aspects and both specifically emphasize a particular mode of play. How can you compare a Peer vs. Peer intensive game like Guild Wars to an adventure friendly game like World of Warcraft? I like both games equally, but WoW's offering for Peer vs. Peer and a persistent world is a complete joke in my opinion. You do not change a thing compared to Guild Wars but you can do oh so much in the long run and I really enjoy the random Horde raids on towns. Guild Wars has a lacking, boring story but a lot of action to help stray away from that. Please stop the bias and actually spend the time and money to play both games with an open mind before you make any comments of your own.
I've played Everquest II, Lineage II, and Guild Wars. I never played WoW because of the exaggerated cartoony art style. I have yet to pay a monthly fee to continue playing any online game, as I have thus limited myself to the first free month. I would love it if a game would come along that is so beautiful and addictive that I would be willing to pay to play it, but I'm not holding my breath. I've never entirely stopped playing Guild Wars. It's always there if I want to let out my frustrations on a few Charr. I will probably buy the collector's edition of GW: Factions because I'm a sucker for art books and soundtrack CDs. On top of which, it's a tremendous value with no monthly fee, and I am looking forward to exploring the new continent.
the IGN preview said this game would cost less than the original. But Gamespot is reporting it still costs $50. what gives.
I think it will be interesting to see how the new professions will work together with the current ones. A new continent - awesome! Standalone expansion - awesome! No monthly fee - awesome! If this is anything less than awesome... then im clueless...
I think Guild Wars is a great game. But I must admit I stop playing a few months ago..But with this new release I look forward to playing again..And as far as you WoW guys lighten up a little and show a little support because if games like GW do well it could mean an end to you having to pay a monthly fee...
I cant wait for this game to come out. Im still enjoying the first game with more then 300 hours of play time.(for only 50 dollars thats alot of game play.) Also because of this release date i won the bet i was in for 10k of in game gold. =)
i have played neither game but have heard a great deal about both. i understand why a company would have you pay a monthly subscripton only if they release free updates and expansions. on the flip side a free game has a great deal of potential as long as all of the good stuff isnt in the latest $50 dollar expansion pack. i personally am looking forward to oblivion because that style of aming draws me in more because i dont like farming ( thats what school is for!) and i like not having to deal with cheats liars and scum that i cant reload and get around. one last question then im done for the night. why do we always argue about such trival things as which game among these is the best and why it is better?
I like the faction and continent war players can take place in. If this is pulled off well I think Guild Wars will really do a number to WoW. Blizzard seems to have handcuffed themselves with their PvP system. I play both games. I've been playing WoW since beta and I've been playing Guild Wars since day one of retail. I like WoW more but I really do like Guild Wars. The problem I see Blizzard creating for WoW is the dynamic of the game changes a great deal at level 60. And this is not a raider versus non-raider statement, it's a gear/item statement. Too much of WoW's endgame runs around gear progression and collection. Raiders enter huge dungeons over and over again to nab gear. PvP players enter battlegrounds over and over again to get honor to buy good gear. Casual players will now have the chance to grab good gear aswell in 1.10. But all this gear farming has sapped a lot of the fun out of the game. A lot of people do not PvP for fun, they farm BG's for rank and loot. PvP in Guild Wars is more fun, plain and simple. Of course, this is just my view.
Looking forward to it - there are some really fun people playing right now (and some not so great ones, but they can just be ignored) :)
ok, money again, the game is the best, the graphic is cool, the sound is good, the gameplay is super, but my money is bad >"
I think Guild Wars and WoW are both really great games in their own regard. Personally, I prefer Guild Wars because its free and I can jump into it any time and start a quest or do some PvP. I played the WoW trial and I REALLY liked it, but my only problem is that the game is so freaking HUGE with craploads to do that I don't think I'd have the time to play it because it would require me to be a hermit or something. I mean, the trial only lasted for a week and I barely scratched the surface of the game. Plus WoW costs quite a bit of green and I'm not gonna give up the dough if I don't even have time to play the game as much as I'd like to. So for us cheap folk, Guild Wars is a breath of fresh air, but for those who have the money and the time WoW is also a great way to go. Both are great and can be enjoyed by many MMORPGers.
hey, i kinda like this game! alot of stuff to do! just because people dont want to shell out the $ for a monthly subscription, doesnt mean their losers and the game sucks. Every game has it's own thing to bring to the table...this one just has a few extra things for the people who play it!
I might have been interested in these features back when guild wars first came out. If this had come out 2 months after release I probably would still be playing GW but sadly I'm entirely burnt out on it. Might be cool for people who are new to the series to get into.
Just to follow the WoW - GuildWars war, I've played GuildWars, and I don't like the rift between different parts of the world. I had a lot of time because I just graduated High School, so I played WoW for 90 days or something. Have been very social that time, loads of graduation-parties, going to the beach with friends, or just hanging out. I might be rich, let me. If I like wow's warcraft style and the MANY things you can do (like going fishing with friends without having to buy stupid dying maggots), so that's just my thing. I don't play a game just because it's free, if there is a game which is better for me. I mean, come on! A magazine subscription is about as expensive, I think its worth it. But a lot of people like PvP a lot (i dont really), so than buy Guild Wars! Saves you a lot of money, but don't keep nagging on people who play WoW just because some 12 year olds found out that they can make people angry on forums and that that even might be amusing. Or, if youre really into it, dont play pc games, get a console like the Japanese and play Final Fantasy XII next month, will be good to learn Japanese too.
"All you fools. Who in their right mind would pay money each month for a game? Only people who don't engage in social things would do that. It's a complete waste of money, and time. Only fools would pay for such garage as World Of WarCRAP. That's why people choose Guild Wars. It's free. And free doesn't mean its a stupid game. I happen to enjoy playing GuildWars, It has just gotten a little boring. I'm more into Oblivion right now. " pretty much...i would only get WoW if i had a lot of free time on my hands and not much of a social life to speak of...i think half of the people in my class own it, and about half of that half talks about the game all the time...they were arguing about something about the game a few days ago until someone finally shushed them. it was amusing...
it really depends what you like more, guilds wars is by far cheaper, has competetive PvP, slightly faster fighting, and for those who seem to be uninformed it does have better graphics: its been referred to as the new diable online. WoW is for people who enjoy leveling and having professions, and its one of the truest MMORPGs around.
Because, Link 1515, you enjoy WoW more than GuildWars. I do happen to own both, and well, enjoy playing WoW alot more.
Exactly xxstalker24xx. I mean, WoW could be a great game, but why would you choose it over a game thats free after you buy it? (GuildWars). It's a no brainer.
Just a quick note about the quick note i did play EQ2 and Guild Wars had fun with them but now onto WoW just didnt want it to sound like i pay for 2 games monthly, that would be no social life Link1515 :)
First: WoW players stop coming onto places like this and slaging of other mmorpgs. This is news about Guild Wars not how WoW is much better. I have hardly seen any other mmorpg players coming onto WoW forums slaging it of. Plz stop childeren you are not helping WoW Laslty: Thats good news i have finished guild wars so i may get Factions. Just a quick not i play WoW, EQ2 and Guild Wars and i dont slag any of them of becuase they are all good in there own way.
All you fools. Who in their right mind would pay money each month for a game? Only people who don't engage in social things would do that. It's a complete waste of money, and time. ha, ha... ya umm... wow has better graphics??? I guess so if you like cartoons. I played wow for a few month but ended up boring me to the point I went and picked up guildwars, which I personally have enjoyed more. not saying one is better then the other but to say wow has better graphics is just silly.
Ok WoW fanboys, just tell me what exactly is better about your game than GW? I haven't played WoW, but in any description i have read or heard, I haven't even been able to tell what is different between the two games that would warrent me paying blizzard at a minimum $144 a year. I could buy myself 2 or 3 brand new games with that money... or 144 Wendy's frosties!
wow...I didn't know that there were WoW fanboys now...guess this is what happens when something threatens an addiction someone has. Having played both games, I think Guild Wars is superior simply because of the value per dollar you put into it....Guild Wars is a great game, and so is WoW, but WoW costs a heck of a lot more for not much of a better game.
IGNORANCE IS BLISS......I'm tired of all you WoW people putting this game down .You probably never even played it, you are such losers. Both games are great in their own unique way. Just because it's free means that it sucks and it's for poor people?? Take my advice, stay in school.
Well, I haven't played the 1st one. But if I can upgrade My ram I will definatly play the 2nd one. BTW titledlive thats A kick-ass avatar :)
um... okay (ignoring darksidex's comment). I like the fact that the update is standalone. I think that is a good idea. I need to start playing again. Start a new character. Currently mine is kinda' useless. But then again they might have created an update so mine is a little less crappy.
i loves guild worlds when i was playing it and can say outright that darksidex is a complete idiot that should shove his keyboard down his throat =) and i liked WoW for the first few months and then got bored with it but i still think it was an amazing game also.
THats real cool can't wait to play it.I wonder if games like this will ever come to the PS3 if not I am still going to play the PC one's but would be nice if it came to the PS3 too.For people that can not run games like this real fast. Also thats cool you do not need the first one.
