Upcoming entry in Epic Games' shooter series coming to the Xbox 360 and will be unveiled during Microsoft's media briefing next week.
The next chapter in the Gears of War shooter saga is coming to the Xbox 360 and will be announced on Monday, according to the GameStop-owned Game Informer magazine. The announcement will be made during Microsoft's 2012 Electronic Entertainment Expo media briefing, which is slated for 9:30 a.m. PDT on June 4.
Game Informer's July issue features art from the new game (at right), though at present, it is shrouded in blackness. Three characters are featured in the image, with the center figure bound by chains in a mysterious place. The series' familiar flying Reaver enemies are shown in the background cruising over a burning building.
The Gears of War franchise launched in 2006 with the praised original, which was followed by Gears of War 2 in 2008 and Gears of War 3 in 2011. A Gears of War Kinect project was reportedly in the works before Epic confirmed in April that this game had been canceled.

There are plenty of other games out there that are "milking their franchise" but I don't consider this one of them. If you do that's fine. Don't play it. I honestly loved Gears 1 and played 2 quite a bit as well. I think 3 made some big improvements but I just never got into the game because of other outside influences although I keep thinking to myself I need to finish the campaign and try out multiplayer.
1 Like gears of war 3 was the conclusion of the current STORY ARC.
That said, the new Epic's gears will featuring a new different story arc. Expect new characters, new time & place setting. we can also expect for improved combat mechanic or graphics (however this changes depending on developer choice and fanbase voice).
Stop complaining, the game doesn't even out yet. we should be positive and support the game.
Awesome, hopefully this will mean the return of some old friends to xbl, havent played with them in a long time, but they love gears.
1 Like Wow, this game will set a new high standard for graphics fidelity, gameplay, and online in the console space. This is going to be freaking awesome. Pushing the Xbox console and not having to worry about the over priced internet ready blu ray player's limiting hardware.

@buying1999 where are you getting these facts from? Gears 3 already showed that the current gen (360) has reached it's limits (graphically). ps I normally don't address such obvious invites to a flame war, but for the record PC is the best gaming console ever made.
Please let this game be a new installment with new characters. The last game wrapped up the series so well I thought and I would hate for it to be spoiled because the developers just want to get another one out there.
New story, new characters, new trilogy and I'll be all over it.

Yes because Halo 4 will be a carbon copy of Halo 3, exactly the same in every way. This new gears of war game will do nothing at all, and you will even play the same exact single player campaign you played in Gears of War 3 with no additions whatsoever.
All of this because they dared to release another Gears of War game.

1 Like Awesome! I love this franchise and definitely want to see more of it. A prequel certainly makes sense given all the Pendulum Wars backstory that was in the previous games. Really looking forward to seeing more of this game.

1 Like People who are saying they are milking for money are ridiculous. If you're a Gears fan why would you NOT want another Gears game? Oh and 3 games in 6 years doesn't sound like any milking to me.

@DashRender619 More so than that what worthwhile games in general have they made besides Gears of War?
1 Like Kinda funny the similarities between Sony and MS on this part , God of War and Gears of War both share very similar titles and exact initials , both are some of the most successful titles on the system (exclusive titles) , and because of the last similarity , both are making 4th ''prequels'' even though the 3rd title seemed to end the series.

At this point the way the game ended the next game is definetly a prequel . It would make a lot sense for Epic to create a game based on the Pendulum Wars.
Well according to wikipedia ''It is the third installment of the Gears of War series, and the final game in the current story arc.'' , so assuming it is a prequel it still sounds a bit like a cheap way to continue the series (much like the series with the same initials God of War) , if the prequel had come in between 1 and 2 or 2 and 3 I would consider it that they legitimately wanted to add onto the story....but a prequel after the game (when the implied context was the series was over) only seems like them saying ''Well , it looks like we need to add some prequels to continue the series since the main story's ended''. All of you major gears of war fans might be lapping up the chance of another game now , but 3 more games from now and you're seeing Gears prequel 3 in bargain bins you won't be quite so happy , they might make a couple titles in while still keeping the quality but personally if I were such a fan I would rather see the series end on a high note than live into sequels that don't even need to be there.

1 Like Course they are milking it, but people will still lap this up. The single player campaigns have got a little stale, it gets repetitive very quickly. I hope that they add more gameplay variety to it.
@Pr0ving4Gr0undz Marcus got arrested in the beginning of the locus war. in the pendulum wars he was a decorated war hero.

Gears of War 4. How about a prequel set during the Pendulem wars. There is still time before the 8th Generation for another Gears of War adventure.
I bet ya this game is going to feature Epic's chopper from OCC. Because when they got it in the show they siad they were going to put it in there next game and that was after Gears 3 release.
1 Like I love the really deep characters & storylines the Gears, so I'm definitely happy for more! By the way, I HIGHLY recommend the Gears novels by Karen Traviss if you wanna go deeper into the world and its characters.
1 Like I predict two things: the man in the dark is Marcus Fenix and is about to be judged in the house of the sovereings. And the game will play super safe, like the last sequel.
I'm all for another Gears -- Hell, I'm probably one of the biggest Gears fans out there, but this is definitely premature. Gears 3 has some serious longevity. I was hoping they'd take a break from the franchise for 3 or so years and let 3's multiplayer continue to shine as I can see nothing but this title suffering from diminishing returns. I'm still all for seeing what this is all about, but this really does nothing but confirm to me that Microsoft really doesn't have anyhting original up their sleeves. Here's hoping E3 surprises me yet.

Yeah that actually happened to me the other week in Gears 3, and a couple of times in Gears 2. They should definitely sort that out, but your level doesn't make a lick of difference in Gears. It's one of the last bastions for the arena shooter genre now the Halo 4 appears to be going the way of CoD. It has a shit load of longevity in that regard considering its one of the only up to date franchises to go to for multiplayer gameplay where everyone is on the same even playing field.
Well I don't know how to feel about this. I love Gears of War but I kind of wish they would take a year or so off like they did with all their other Gears games. Well money talks...

@dashrender619 he actually said the end of delta squad not gears of war. the end of delta squads story. so unless that is marcus on the cover. also this is not the only games they have done. bullet storm, infinity blade, fortenite jsut to name a few

@moviequest14 actually your wrong the numbers were added to star wars after phantom menace. the original title names had no numbers. there were star wars, empire strikes back & return of the jedi. i know this because i was there hahaha
@deathblow3 George Lucas split up the series into 2 parts , obviously titling the first 3 to imply that there would be 3 more (you thought that the titles ''Iv , V , VI'' was just to decorate?). I , II , and III were prequels that were already planned , but intentionally delayed (probably to wait for technology to catch up) , however often times (and my guess is for this series to) developers only add prequels to have a reason to have another game after the series ends , the original 3 (gow's) weren't planned to be the completing part to the first 3.
@DashRender619 trilogy means a 3 part story not that you cant do more stories in the same universe like say um starwars???? which had 2 trilogies. the gears trilogy covers the end of the locus wars not the beggining or the middle. just like the first 3 star wars cover the end of the war and the 1st 3 cover the start of it but sitll missing 16-18 years
