New Diablo III director speaks about the game's future

Josh Mosqueira's plans include making loot drops meaningful and reduce "the impact of the Auction House".

Diablo III director Josh Mosqueira wrote a post on the official game's site about the future plans for the action RPG.

He said that the development team will focus on making item and loot drops more meaningful and reducing "the impact of the Auction House". By doing this, he would keep the "core magic formula" of the series intact.

"Our goal is to make the loot experience more enjoyable for ALL players. This includes reducing the amount of loot that drops while improving the overall quality, introducing targeted Legendaries, and giving players ways to directly customize their character's armor-both visually and mechanically."

Mosqueira added that while he believed that the Auction House provided value, the feature should not be "the end-all-be-all force driving character progression". Head here to read the full post.

Mosqueira was originally brought onto the team to work on the PS3 and PS4 versions of the game. His attention was shifted to the franchise as a whole after former Diablo III game director Jay Wilson moved to another Blizzard project.

Marvel Heroes is free and ten times as much fun.

I had more fun with Torchlight 2, honestly. It does everything D3 did but with more fun, variety and humor. And bear-things with axes.

reducing "the impact of the Auction House"

I have an idea, remove it, that would reduce it all the way to 0%.

Sad that a small group like Grinding Gear Games was able to produce something better (Path of Exile) than Blizzard with all its resources and developers.  Blizzards design decisions were a direct result of the influence CEOs like Kotick and, more importantly stockholders, have on video game development now.  Sure, both companies' goal is to make money, but Blizzard's goal is to absolutely maximize profits for shareholders and will make design decisions with that goal in mind (Auction House).  Ive said for years that I wanted to see gaming return to smaller companies producing games for a targeted demographic rather than these big publishing houses trying to make a game that EVERYONE enjoys.  Lets face it, people are different and enjoy different things.  A prime example is the Demon Souls/Dark Souls series.  It was made for a targeted audience.  Did they still sell a respectable amount of copies...sure...did they make a decent profit...they sure did.  While i see tremendous potential for exploitation in the Kickstarter model, I think it is an avenue that might help the industry get back on track to making great games for targeted audiences that still make a decent profit and are loved by their fans.

I've never used the auction house to buy anything or sell anything, only few times for looking what's the max stat for some items.

POS game... They are still screwing around with it.

Game was better in beta then it is now. All your moronic changes have killed it and the fact your random level generator sucks ass.

Still I would have rather have the game in the first gameplay reveal.

Im glad you are finally listening to the fans 11 years after you started working on the game. Axe always online while you are at it.

Your words mean nothing, get to the grindstone. I still wont buy it tho, ive been insulted enough.

Josh if you read this make at least 5 players in a game, free for all looting (WAY MORE EXCITING and immersive) Custom room names (thats where the community comes from) those are a few of the little things taken away that made diablo 2 a masterpiece

Shouldn't this have been your goal at launch? I'm curious as to WTF you people at Blizzard do all day because it certainly isn't working on your games.

Maybe it's petty of me but I'd quite like them to be honest and upfront and admit that the auction house was a mistake.

TenraiSenshi

@Shanks_D_Chop I think you speak for a lot of people when you say that. Kill the auction house and improve drops and they'll already be taking a big leap towards a better game overall.

I know they use the excuse that the AH will prevent the buying and selling of items on shady third party sites, but an easier solution would have been to simply make all items account bound on drop. It would have had the same results, without all the heartache.

Sorry Josh but everyone's migrated to Torchlight 2, you know, that game created by the real Diablo devs that doesn't require the fuckin internet to play.

The only thing that Ruined D3 was the AH. Better off buying the loot from the AH than wait for the drops. No point in playing afterwards!!

Warlord_Irochi
Warlord_Irochi

Right now you get a loot storm each time you play. Like 2 to 3 legendary items each 2 hours when you are around parago 40-50. That is just ridiculous. Hope they will fix this asap

D3 Director: "This game up till now was an extended April Fool's joke in order to give us some time to release the real Diablo 3. Now we are ready to release it."

@berserker66666 They will release it DRM free on consoles.

In the begining I thought the that DRM was a huge mistake for this game.

After 1000 hours of gameplay, believe me DRM is my last concern to what my eyes have seen...

@Coseniath whats interesting, is your choice to endure 1000 hours of garbage instead of playing better dungeon crawls

On a 6 month+ 1k+ post about tweaking your wow ping. Which was still going with newer posts.

Reason was "Advertising".

Then they deleted the whole damn help thread.
