NCAA Football 10 cover stars revealed

Michael Crabtree, Brian Johnson, Brian Orakpo, Mark Sanchez front respective Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, PSP installments of EA's college gridiron sim.

In March, EA Sports confirmed that it had no intention of releasing its annualized collegiate gridiron simulation NCAA Football for the Wii in 2009. However, considering that last year's Wii edition was graced by Michigan States' mascot, the absence of NCAA Football 10 on Nintendo's console doesn't necessarily mean one less athlete will be given his day to shine on the cover of this year's box.

Today, EA Sports announced which former collegiate athletes would grace the covers of NCAA Football 10, which is due for release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, and PSP on July 14. As was the case last year, EA Sports selected a different noted athlete for each edition of the sports sim.

Cover duties for the Xbox 360 edition of NCAA Football 10 have been awarded to former Texas Tech University wideout Michael Crabtree, who is a two-time recipient of the Biletnikoff and Paul Warfield Awards. University of Utah quarterback Brian Johnson will appear on the PS3 edition of the game, having led his team to a perfect 12-0 regular season and upsetting Alabama in the 2009 Sugar Bowl.

Brian Orakpo, defensive end for the University of Texas, has secured the cover rights for the PS2 edition of NCAA Football 10, having picked up the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, the Ted Hendricks Award, and the Lombardi Award during his last season with the Longhorns. Lastly, the PSP game will be covered by University of Southern California QB Mark Sanchez, who received the Most Valuable Offensive Player award during the 2009 Rose Bowl.

More information on all four of the selected cover athletes is available through the official NCAA Football 10 Web site.

lol, all of us in the SEC felt your pain on that one. Shows how key Andre was to that line with him suspended. As a Falcons fan I really hope John Parker Wilson's deep ball can add some versatility to the Backup's for Matt Ryan. I really don't want him to replace DJ Shockley though as a Bulldawgs fan.

And no Tebow can not be on the cover, you have to have been graduated to recieve any kind of endorsements. Another protection to garner fairness by the NCAA, thats why the player's names aren't on the jerseys as well and you have to DL the updates to get named rosters.

I'm with you though androflash, Hook em horns!!! If UGA can't pull off a surprise as the underdogs this season then i would much rather see my second favorite team do it, planning on doing the joint Business / Law School program there.

P.S. Can't wait to see Tebow get on that cover and get annihilated like every other Florida QB prospect in the NFL... spread systems in the shotgun do not translate to the NFL.

Despite its talent look at USC, they run an even more pro style offense then Georgia. Thats what helped Stafford go so high on top of his raw talent, even though his footwork and accuracy need fine tuning those schools produce students of the NFL game unlike Florida. Harvin will be a monster though if he can stay healthy. Speed Speed Speed up there in Minnesota with him and Peterson

Tebow isn't on the cover because hes still playing in college. Players receive money/endorsements when they're on the cover. You're not allowed to do that for players still in college.

That sucks. Crabtree on the 360 cover. I was thinking of buying the game but now after seeing Crabtree on the 360 cover i don't think i will. I'v hated Crabtree ever since the Texas Longhorns lost to Tech and didn't go to the national championship game. I wish Orakpo was on the 360 cover.

    @Laxman

I honestly think they were better, even though they lost the game. I hate Ohio State, so don't get me wrong. I wanted yall to win that game, Jo Pa is a great guy. But Ohio State is just loaded with talent and chokes all the time. They will be great next year with Pryor only being a soph

And yall didn't choke, personally i think yall gave USC a run for there money. Started off bad but if i remember correctly yall made it respectable in the second half.

  • Luckysc

    Posted Apr 26, 2009 3:55 pm GMT

@Fadetoblack... i would hardly consider a field goal a devestating lead in the 1st quarter to come from behind and win it....... i know you are just trying to be a smart alec, but you can't seriously think that.

And yea UGA was rated #1, but they also had 20+ Injured people, including multiple all americans on defense. You tell me how your team would fare in that situation, i'm not gonna lie though overall it was dissapointing season as a UGA fan.

And what does collapses on defense have to do with Stafford? If anything that would get a QB down knowing he had to carry the team by himself, but he still put up points, something Sanchez didn't have to worry about.

And Tennesee's #1 guy last year was Marlon Brown and Austin Long was #2, the top 2 recruits out of Tennesee went to UGA. Bryce Brown is the guy you are referring to who came after signing day and was a curveball out of Kansas. He is a locker room cancer and i gurantee you the primadonna will cause trouble for your team. So don't tell me that Lame Kitten got everyone he wanted. He did good, i will not lie, but he is going to be an awful coach i feel like who will screw you in a heartbeat... look at Oakland.

I feel bad for Phil, yall made a bad decision getting rid of him, 10+ guys on your team have already quit after realizing what a bad character blemish he is on College Football.

I respect Tennesee more then other programs like Bama or Florida. But getting rid of Fat Phil for Lane Kiffen was short sighted and for media attention, horrible decision. I'll shutup if proven wrong when the games cume, but Kitten is already talking smack without coaching a single game yet.

No one trying to prove me wrong has provided any substance to make me change my mind.

And by the way, Eric Berry out of TN DESERVES to be on the cover next year, hes an absolute monster. I was upset UGA couldn't reel him in, but he was a Vol from day one of the recruiting trail, yall have a real diamond in that kid, he will do good things in the NFL

  • Cwagmire21

I don't see the point of having a different athlete for each system. It's not like 360 owners are Crabtree fans or PSP owners are Sanchez fans? Sounds like a waste of money but its their money, not mine.

    @rodney130

because of the rules behind the kids still being in college they aren't allowed to use the players for the cover until after their last season. Me being a tennessee fan too, i hope we don't see him on the cover until the year after next LoL.

and he has a legit shot at being the best defensive player in the country, we all already know he is the best safety. Maybe he can be a return man this year and next year, so that he has a legit shot at winning the heisman and make up for tennessee getting screwed out of their last 2 heisman finalists. I dont think ill ever be able to forgive the the one that charles woodson stole...

@Luckysc Ohio State better than Penn State last year? Who won when they played? I agree though, they choked bigtime in the Rose Bowl.

Sanchez and Stafford both suck, Stafford's team was predicted to win it all begining of the season lol how'd that work out?

  • rodney130

Where's Eric Berry?! Haha. Some websites have him tabbed as the best defensive player in the country this upcoming season...

  • FadeToBlack90

    Posted Apr 25, 2009 9:43 am GMT

Luckysc, there is this new concept that I think they are calling the 'field goal' and its worth 3 points, so that is how you can be losing to a team without them scoring a touchdown, and if you re-read my post, i didn't say stafford played bad in all of those games, i was referring to Georgia as a whole, particularly their defense in the tech game.

Now I will have to agree with Luckysc about the south. Football is religion here(born in tennessee, currently go to school in atlanta). We dominate in recruiting, think about the kind of pull the coaches here have, they can get players from any part of the country they want. Prime example look at tennessee this recruiting season, 5-7 record last year, fired a coach with 150+ wins and a NC, and still finished 12th or 13th overall getting the number 1 overall recruit(according to rivals i believe). This also translates to the NFL draft http://myespn.go.com/blogs/sec/0-6-119/Sizing-up-the-SEC-and-the-NFL-draft.html article from yesterday. Final thought, realistically there are usually 3-4 teams that have the ability to win the NC from the SEC.

  • Luckysc

    Posted Apr 25, 2009 1:02 am GMT

The ONLY game that you have any justifying saying that Stafford did bad in is Florida. Bama and GT he put up 30+ points.

Correct me if i'm wrong but Ohio State never scored a touchdown against USC, how did Sanchez come from behind?

I'm not in the SEC bandwagon, i grew up in the South and you don't have to be a genius to know where the superior players are.

Go look at the recuriting boards of Rivals and Scouts... the total points of the SEC is almost twice as much as the next ranking conference which is typically either the ACC or Big 12. The SEC has finished 1st the past 9 years in recruitng buddy.

Where does the PAC 10 consistently finish? 5th or 6th. This is taking into account that USC finished with top 5 classes year in and year out. Even with USC heavily weighing on the recruiting numbers of the entire conference they still finish 5th or 6th.

USC Plays against WEAK talent, the numbers don't lie.

And are you kidding????? Penn State with a prolific offense??? Give me a damn break. They were good but not prolfiic, and Penn State put up 30 points on USC, i'd hardly call that stomping on them, what happened to that defense that consistenly got only 10 points a game on it then when they play in a bowl they give up 30. Penn State was good, but not great. As much as I hate ohio state, they were better.

Get real and watch some damn reel. You watch way too much ESPiN and assume everyone that comes out of USC is a god send.

  • animal503

Luckysc obviously is prejudice towards the always overhyped SEC. There good, even really good consistently, but did YOU know that before last season Pete Carroll, USC head coach for those that dont know, said the hole in and weak spot was the o-line they were a bunch of freshies and like one sophy. "CupCake" pahh your funny!!!! Go sit on the SEC bandwagon like every other front runner!!!

  • animal503

    Posted Apr 25, 2009 12:19 am GMT

Luckysc obviously you havent been to Oregon State because youd know that that is a HOSTILE environment! Yes USC should be ashamed they've lost there multiple times in the last few years with the team they've had but they seem to look over the Beavers constantly and get slapped for it. Did you also notice that only Pac-10 teams can beat USC because of there familiarity with them? And then you say weak defence that beat up on weak teams... did you not see the Rose bowl? Penn State had a prolific offence and they smashed them and shut them down then let off gas the whole second half because the game was over at halftime. And did you notice that the "weak" Pac-10 won the most bowl games of any conference? FadeToBlack90 made some very legitimate arguments and obviously knows the greatest sport that is College football, "you would know that any team can beat just about any team on any given saturday," smart words from a smart person! Another year USC should have been in the NC and could have held the Crystal football once again... damn three years in a row!

  • animal503

Damn the new style for covers is the tightest EA has ever created. I wish Mark Sanchez was on the 360 version but i wont complain about the fact that a beast of a wide reciever (and the reason Texas didnt go to the National Championship) Michael Crabtree Graces us on the cover.

  • Laxman816

    Posted Apr 24, 2009 7:57 pm GMT

Good choice with Brian Johnson. Watching Utah beat Alabama was very satisfying. That was one of my favorite bowl games last year.

  • FadeToBlack90

    Posted Apr 24, 2009 6:59 pm GMT

USC came from behind in 3 games last season: ohio state, oregon, and stanford, granted they weren't down for very long, but they did have to come from behind. Yeah they lost to oregon state, but if you are going to sit there and pretend that you really know as much about football as you do, then you would know that any team can beat just about any team on any given saturday. you don't make it to that level, regardless of the conference if you aren't a damn fine athlete.

Now lets look at Georgia's losses, and I will begin by saying they were extremely shorthanded at some positions. They just got ran out of there own stadium against Alabama in the first half, that was the epitome of dominance. Florida just embarrassed them, they were never in that game. stafford threw 3 or 4 pics, dont remember. Then there was the loss to tech. tech had a pretty good team last year, that option attack is hard to defend regardless of how good your defense is, you have to play assignment football and Georgia didn't do that.

2 losses at home and one at a neutral field, so much for those NC hopes.

Sanchez and stafford both have the physical abilities to play in the nfl, is stafford a slightly better athlete, yeah, but again you don't make it that far not being one, heck stafford isn't technically the best qb in this draft if you're looking strictly at physical attributes, freeman is. Stafford still has issues with his decision making abilities, I dont think he was the brightest crayon in the box. He isn't ready yet, maybe in a couple of years, but he is going to an organization that can't really afford to wait that long, they need a star and they need one now.

  • Luckysc

    Posted Apr 24, 2009 4:58 pm GMT

I welcome you to tell me a time where USC has come from behind by the way with Sanchez at the helm.

He couldn't even overcome a crappy Oregon State defense.

After all that is the only reason some prefer Sanchez to Stafford since Stafford has him beat in every area physically.

"Sanchez has the intangibles" ... According to McShay.

If intangibles can't organize an offense to come from behind then i don't want them

  • Luckysc

    @ FadeToBlack90

don't resort to smart@$$ comments bc you are in your lazy boy all day being a video game jockey and don't know a thing about sports.

You want to talk about overhyped? USC is good at churning em' out. Look at Reggie Bush, he was heralded as the next Herschel Walker in College football. Hes good with the Saints, but nowhere near a great.

I believe in the USC defensive players coming out in this draft, Cushing and Malaluga (spelling?) are beasts. Their offense is not impressive though besides their O Line, they beat up on weak defenses.

    Mark Sanchez???

Give me Matt Stafford. Have you seen the gun on that guy? Sanchez has started like 16 games in his career, Stafford has 3 years under his belt and in the SEC.

If Stafford had USC's O line or got to play the other cupcakes in the Pac 10, he would be a heisman winner. Yall realize that everyone on Stafford's O line last year was a freshman or a sophomore, there were 3 TRUE freshman on that line. There were about 25 players on the Georgia Roster injured last year. Gimme a break

Show me one time Sanchez came from behind to win a game?

UGA had defensive collapses in GT, Kentucky, and Alabama games this year.

Stafford put up 30+ points in the Alabama game after being down by 30 at the half and nearly had the Dawgs win it. Kentucky he put up 40 and saved the day. Georgia Tech he threw for 400+ yards against a heralded defense, UGA's defense missing out on defending a few big runs was the reason for that loss.

Stafford > Sanchez. And should be on the cover, the media love for USC is complete bullS@#$
