NBA Jam tops October PSN sales
EA's digital follow-up to last year's arcade baller drives it home ahead of Payday: The Heist and Crysis.
Shooters may be ruling the roost at retail recently, but they couldn't outdo EA's big head-sporting basketball game on Sony's digital storefront last month. Sony today released its list of the top 20 best-selling PlayStation Network games for the month of October, and NBA Jam: On Fire Edition was last month's star player.
A follow-up to last year's retail release of the reinvented arcade basketball franchise, On Fire Edition brought EA's arcade-style basketball game to the PSN at a lower price point.
All of that's not to say the downloadable shooter scene wasn't well represented on the PSN last month. Sony Online Entertainment's Payday: The Heist and Crytek's Crysis grabbed the second and third spots, respectively.
Payday: The Heist is an original game from Overkill Software featuring first-person, squad-based shooting across six different heist experiences. Sticking to the shooter genre, last month's release of Crysis brought the previously PC-only title to consoles running on a version of the engine that powered this year's Crysis 2.
Fan-favorite Japanese role-playing game Chrono Trigger launched and took the fourth spot on the list. New release Dungeon Defenders landed in seventh place, and Battlefield 1943 took the last spot for the second month in a row. The full list of October's best-selling PSN games follows below. The list excludes sales to PlayStation Plus members who were able to download games for free.
