NBA 2K13 sets franchise sales record

First-week sales for 2K Sports' new basketball sim jump 49 percent over previous record-holder NBA 2K11 due to "expanding global popularity."
NBA 2K13's tipoff was a record-breaker for publisher 2K Sports. The company today announced that first-week sales for NBA 2K13 jumped 49 percent over the previous record-holder NBA 2K11.
2K attributed this rise to the "expanding global popularity of the NBA 2K brand," adding that international sales of NBA 2K13 rose 66 percent over NBA 2K11.
The online space for NBA 2K13 has also proven popular with gamers. According to 2K, the number of online users during the game's first week more than doubled over last year's NBA 2K12. Additionally, the number of online games played rose 127 percent over last year's game.
NBA 2K13 was developed by Visual Concepts and is currently available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PSP, Wii, and PC. The Wii U version will release in North America as a launch title for the system on November 18, and in Europe on November 30.

best NBA game ever made. Those who haven't bought it are seriously missing out. Sorry but its the truth ^_^
2K sports game have some of the worst gameplay around and they are saved by the fact that the do the best presentation and always have a ton of extras. but adding a sneaker creator and the dream team do hide the fact that they keep dropping modes from the game every year and that the animations are sweet to watch but ruin the gameplay and the online is worthless anymore with the worst servers of this generation
Ill probably pick this up, but I wonder if it will be stuffed with todays hip hop/rap garbage for a soundtrack. Sports game soundtracks are worse than 80's pron music

you are joking right .... you do realize that even at its peak with NFL 2K5 , Madden outsold it over 4 to 1 even with the $20 price point. 2K5 is the most overrated sports game ever and VC has released a football game in All Pro football and that was farther proof they dont have any idea how to make a football game. If they are so great at sports games then why is this their ONLY franchise. They got torn apart on NHL , and NCAA basketball games and their NCAA football was averaging a 4.5 review its last 3 years on the market. Oh wait they still make the unplayable and buggy waste of money baseball that they need to give a million bucks away to try to get people to buy that trash . EA is not worried about VC in any way shape or form . You people do realize that VC can make a liscensed football game as long as it is released after Jan 1st right. EA only has exclusive rights for the NFL calender year and anyone can make an NFL game after the end of the year. In many interviews VC has stated they no longer have the desire to compete on that front and instead will focus on their other franchises to insure the best gaming experience possible..LOL , so i guesss they meant adding a sneaker creation tool . 2K will remain a trash sports game maker

2 Like Thanks for the wall of nonsense but you either never played a NFL2K game, no nothing about sports, or are employed by EA. Eitherway when 2K had their football game out it made Madden look like childs play so much so that I remember EA lowering the price within weeks of its release. That my friend is why they bought the NFL rights. Check your facts kid and move along..

if the servers worked then why did VC issue multiple apologies to customers in the first month of relese the game wasnt able to be played online for almost a third of it thats great servers

Not much competition on the NBA front, which is causing a bit of stagnation....but it's a good series for sure.
Funny, because i own 2011 and 2012 and this is the first i really didn't like that much. Didn't change enough really and the money earning system i can't stand. Also, you can't practice or do anything but exhibition with the DREAM TEAM. Why can't i put Barkley i any team?

1 Like Hey lets release the same game year after year with the exact same problems and hope people dont notice. Well if youre VC that works but if youre company is EA you get bashed a million times over by people who wont try your games. The only improvement over last years game is the right stick control ( first used by EA years ago ) . Waste of life people also were going nuts over a "create a sneaker" mode and ...........well i wont even waste my keyboard batteries saying how stupid they and the feature are. But lets look at the "improved gameplay". Still can't always inbound the ball in 5 vs 5 games, animations still carry you out of bounds, ( in their own showing with developers playing it happend 6 times in a game with 4 min quarters LMAO) and animations putting you so far under the basket that your player makes impossible movements to try an throw the ball in the hoop. Oh and how about the best players in the NBA shooting less than 30% from shots from under 15 feet away strictly based on percentages rather than making the D stop em. Oh and i'm glad they are still using 2k9's player models. At least the rosters are decent oooppss except for the fact a quarter of the teams dont even have a full roster. Maybe that will get fixed in a update, ... nevermind they already tried and its still no good. Oh and how about last year them avoiding questions about the My Crew Mode and only saying you will have to wait and see only to find out it was dropped and they didnt let you know until 20 days after release that it wasnt there and would not be added. At least they added a few more legends this year but they also dont have a mode dedicated to them anymore. So thanks for taking more features away from your games than the ones you add and keep getting told youre doing a great job. This series is TRASH and will never change.
4 Like @checkrazor1976 I agree with many of the bugs you listed and there are a lot more. The series isn't trash, but NBA 2K13 seems to be. NBA 2K11 was actually perfect. Yes, it still had the ball passing through players bug and the missing quarters in Gametrack/Shot Charts bugs. These same bugs are in 2K12 and 2K13 as well. What 2K11 had that 2K13 is completely missing is quick sharp passing and a smooth jump shot. Everything is delayed in 2K13, more so then in 2K12. If you push the pass button it either doesn't work or is delay a full second or more. If you hit the button again it does a fake pass. The jump shot must be released after you reached the top of your jump instead of as you are reaching the top. This will throw your game completely off, because every NBA 2K gamer has been releasing their shoot as the player is about to reach the top of his jump. My first 6 games I shot like 28%. I went 1 for 8 in one game where several of my shots were right under the basket. The game is seriously broken. The CPU team will get an enormous amount of OR because you team members won't block players out. Many of these issues weren't in NBA 2K11 or 2K12. If your thinking about buying this game, rent it for a weekend first.

I find it interesting that all the sport games that have been released over the last few months have broken sales records: Madden, FIFA, and now 2K.
It wasn't only the Jay Z inclusion, but also because of how much they've changed including the control scheme. VC has been amazing for awhile and thats why I think since EA no longer holds the license for the NCAA, you will see a NCAA 2K14. The animations in NBA2K13 is unmatched by any game of it's genre. I cant wait to see what they do next generation
@Diablo-B People forget that Jay Z is an international superstar. So kids that never tried this game before are going to pick it up because of his name tied to it. The soundtrack is awesome, so that has an appeal to many. 2K11 was a hit because that was inclusion of Jordan, so they figured we have to top this. I also attribute its success in having to play the past and present Dream Team as well.

Talk about buggy pos? How about no one with a 360 4gb slim not even being able to play the game? That's a pretty massive bug right there, not to mention the countless other bugs. Wake up dude.
@Bleak5170 guess you havent played many 2k game on any console or any sport... yes there bb games and their football games (when they had nfl) are way better than any EA effort. but they are always full of bug. because they at least try to push forward with thier deadline rather playing safe attitude.
Actually I own almost every 2K sports game ever made dating back to the Dreamcast and a couple hundred sports video games overall.
I agree that 2K sports games can be buggy but Madden 13 takes the cake for me in that department this year. Now granted, a huge patch has since come out to fix a lot of these issues, but the game never should have shipped in the state it was in. Plus, while I think the Infinity Engine is a good idea in theory, it's pretty much a joke how it works right now. And that running animation? Are you kidding me?
But to be honest, it's actually the number of features which were taken out of Madden 13 which annoy me more. We could do things in the Madden games 10 years ago that we can't even do now. Offline play was obviously a complete afterthought.
I'll admit I like real life football a lot more than basketball so I'm not as picky when it comes to the NBA 2K series. I do expect to see a fair number of bugs in sports games as it seems to have always been that way.
Then you already know the game still has the same bugs from NBA 2K5 right? I too own EVERY NBA 2K game since it was shown on the Dreamcast. I was actually one of the first people to see NFL 2K and NBA 2K for the Dreamcast when they unveiled it at the E3. My mouth dropped to the floor when I first laid eyes on them. This was before the E3 show even started. We got special passes that let us on the floor the night before. We watched both games in action for at least 45 mins and got to play the next day. In any case, there are still lots of bugs in NBA 2K13. I still don't understand why 2KSports haven't fixed the Gametrack and Shot Chart bugs yet. It's been broken for 5-6 years now. Why can't we get FULL Boxscore quarterly stats for players. NBA Live has been doing this since PS2/XBox days.
