Myst V landing on PCs this fall
Ubisoft announces the final chapter in the Myst series; adventure game will pick up where original Myst left off.
Ubisoft today announced Myst V: End of Ages will be coming to PCs and Macs this fall. The game is being developed by Spokane-based Cyan Worlds, the developer of the first two chapters in the series, the ground-breaking Myst and Riven: The Sequel to Myst. Cyan Worlds also announced that Myst V will be the final chapter in the Myst saga, thus closing the book on the franchise's story.
The title continues the story and gameplay of the original Myst by giving gamers the chance to restore the lost empire of the D'ni. Those who have played the Myst series will be familiar with the gameplay where players must navigate a 3D world, explore a fully interactive environment, and solve brainteasers.
"Myst V: End of Ages follows the Myst storyline to its conclusion, closing the book on the Ages of Myst," said Rand Miller, CEO of Cyan Worlds. "To complete this circle of Myst, we've embraced the idea of something old and something new. 'New' in regard to pushing forward in areas of interface and technology. And 'old' [in] getting back to the simple exploration that made Myst so magical."
Myst was originally released in the mid-'90s, and it created a computer gaming phenomenon, immersing players in a fantastic world with its revolutionary graphics and simple yet challenging gameplay. Myst became the top-selling PC game of all time before being surpassed by Electronic Arts' life-sim The Sims in 2002.
Myst fans stay tuned: We'll have more on Myst V: End of Ages soon.
