Mortal Kombat tops booming April sales - NPD

I like Mortal Kombat sure, but I'm rather disappointed that it topped Portal 2. Oh well, I guess people will always prefer gory fighting games compared to puzzle ones...

@ benboz I know exactly how you feel. Been looking to get a copy from the UK on Ebay. But don't really want to pay $150 plus for it! Insane.

@benboz, I pre-ordered and received my Kollector's Edition MK from play-asia (PS3) and customs didn't pick it up (Even said Mortal Kombat on the package). If you think it's worth it, see if you can get it?

MK is a pretty sweet game.

I am glad to see Mortal Kombat restored to its former glory, aside from a chaotic Krypt and a few unballanced characters (which will be patched soon) the game is pretty darn solid. I havent had this much fun ripping someones spinal cord out since MKII. I agree with the Killer Instinct comment, if they could give that franchise the same care and attention that Capcom did with SFIV and Netherrealm did with MK '11 then a Killer Instinct revival would be great.

Awesome game and well deserved. I was having a ton of fun with MVC3, but now with MK taking up most of my time I am finding it hard to go back to MVC3. Both great fighting games however. FIGHT!!

Now that Mortal Kombat has been revived,I hope they revive Killer Instinct also!!

I still see black ops is in the top 5. that is just amazing to me.

Do Portal's retail sales really count all that much? For 360/PS3 sure, but PC?

I'm happy for Ed Boon and the whole MK Team. It is just a fantastic game and fun to play, so glad that I bought it.

well... there's still hope for PS2....

@ecs33 i didn't say graphics didn't matter, but great graphics aren't essential. Of course i prefer graphics these days to older games, but that dosen't make older games less enjoyable. In fact, i kind of like the old blocky character in ps1 games, they make me laugh as i think "Man, these were good graphics back then".

While Portal 2 was an excellent game, it was overpriced. I think it would have definitely been #1 if Valve gave it the more reasonable price of $50 on console and $40 on PC.

@irishdude199210 It's definitely MUCH more comfortable to sit on the couch with your gamepad and rock out some console games! I tried to create a setup that would let me do PC gaming on the TV, but it's not so great when using the keyboard/mouse. You almost need to put a desk with a desk chair near the TV in the living room, and that can really screw up the setting. It may work for some, but I do like to keep 'em separate now.

Whoa, I didn't think MK would sell that much in the first month. WB must be very happy.

If you were talking solely about games, I would agree with you that consoles are the better deal $/experience. But I sooped up my PC to be an music system too (make and listen) and a webdesign tool. The extra gpx are nice but if you are going to put down that kind of money it's best to use your PC in other ways so you get your money's worth :D

@irishdude199210 I didn't say that gpx make a game. However, gpx definitely help to improve the experience. If gpx didn't matter, then why aren't we still playing NES? :D

@Egotte First off, i don't know what that second paragraph was about. Computers ruling the world? haha Secondly, I heard that you could use different pc specific game contollers for pc gaming, but I heard no one likes them too. To be honest then there's not too much of a difference. PC's are better because they constantly improve, update etc. New consoles are brought out to compete every so often. After all, a console is essentially a pc. Maybe one day, they'll be practically no difference as maybe eventually you could upgrade etc. a console the same way you would a pc. All that said, i'm a console gamer till the day I die! :D

Good game, but it makes me sad to see more people went for MK than Portal 2. But if thats what people like then thats just the way it is.

Not surprised; it is a fantastic series, and this is a fantastic game in its own right.

@irishdude199210 Actually, you assumed incorrectly of me! I prefer to play on my consoles... but I think you're mistaken in assuming that PC games are meant to be played on a keyboard/mouse. I plug a wired X360 controller into my PC when playing most of the games, even if I have to use XPadder. Being hunched over a keyboard/mouse is no good for the ergonomics of a gamer! What I was inferring about jealously was stated wrongly on my part! I was trying to insinuate that perhaps you were jealous of someone who has a huge computer that can rule the world! It's all in good fun.

@ecs33 If your willing to spend possibly thousands of dollars and become addicted to upgrading your PC, yeah why not. Personally i think a console is a better deal there. And if you can't enjoy a game because of it's graphics, i really feel sorry for you. I'm playing Mortal Kombat 2 these days actually, and loving it. Games like Contra are also very enjoyable. Sure I love great graphics, who doesn't? But gameplay makes the game, not graphics.

@irishdude199210 That's not really true. You can get a wireless USB receiver for your PC and play with your 360 pad? Why is PC not meant to be played with a pad if such tools are available in the market? What do you think 360's and PS3's ultimately are? I have all consoles and a high performance PC. If a game is available for PC over the consoles, I will get it for the PC simply because I can play it at a higher gpx level. My friend and I played Portal 2 on my PC and then he purchased it for 360. The lesser framerate and detail were plainly obvious and the experience just wasn't the same. Not hating on consoles. You gotta put alot in to get the best gpx these days...but if you are willing to spend the money, why not?

@Egotte Jealous of what? PC games? If i wanted to play pc games, then i would play PC games. I didn't mention anything about performance, so why did you bring up that? Fact is, console games are more fun. It's not all about the best graphics, sounds etc. If i'd played MK on a PC it would suck and you know it, no matter how good your 'performance' is. Get a gamepad, fine, it would be more fun, but the whole point of PC gaming is not using a gamepad/controller. I'm not getting into some ridiculous argument that i've seen over and over again. If you've played PC games more than console and you've grown up on them, your more likely to like them, and vice versa. I like console games better, you like PC games better. Leave it at that.

i want to get this, but will probably wait until later this year/ beginning of next year...to save money and to allow me to play all the other great games i want

meh, im still not getting it. i've played it and yes it is similar to the classic MK titles some of you know and love.it also sucks like the classic MK titles some of you know and for some odd reason love. outside of a few exceptions, April's release line-up wasn't all that hot any how.casual gamers usually tend to go with something more widely recognizable to them.so in this case the more widely known was of course mk.

Just goes to show that when a developer puts their heart and soul into a game, both they and their fans will be rewarded for it. Thank you Ed Boon and Netherrealm Studios for making such a killer game.

@lfebaggins I do! I bought the PS3 version but i'd like the option to turn up the gpx on my PC. I can easily connect my 360 to it and play it that way :D
