Red-garbed ninja Skarlet to be first of four downloadable characters, sell for $5 on Xbox 360 and PS3.
Mortal Kombat fans have had months to master the game's original roster, which means it's about time for Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment to start expanding its options. The publisher today announced that the blood-soaked ninja Skarlet will be available to download starting June 21 for 400 Microsoft points ($5).
The Mortal Kombat roster is set to expand even further. Skarlet is just the first of the planned downloadable characters, along with the blind fighter Kenshi, the purple ninja Rain, and an as-yet-unannounced fourth fighter.
Skarlet won't be the only new Mortal Kombat DLC arriving this month. June 21 will also see the release of a new pack featuring new Sektor and Cyrax skins inspired by the robotic ninjas' appearances in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.
The first Mortal Kombat game since 2008's Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe and the ninth in the series, the reboot is rated M for Mature for pervasive gore accentuated by gruesome fatalities. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's review of Mortal Kombat.
All of those who are complaining about the price of the DLC, i m willing to bet are the SAME folks who would buy a 3 measly maps for COD for 15 bucks and went and brought Super Street Fighter 4. Ppl are paying 15 for Arcade Edition and to me is a quite a rip off considering its now more broke with the new characters and the suspect "rebalancing" of characters. I don't mind shelling out the cash, I love the game. But folks plz.........quit the crying. I can only drink a gallon of salty tears a day.
@ matalato Considering that you can see her fighting Kenshi or the unknown fighter during the Pit stage, yes, she's in there. Moves and all. If you buy her, Gibbs slap yourself for me when you see a file size of 100KB being downloaded into your system.
So I support you by purchasing your game on day one for $60. And now you want to entice me to spend another $20 on a measly four characters and another I don't know how much on retro outfits for the rest of the in game fighters (which by the way could have been included in the game from the get)? Well F you too! Apple sells music for $1.29 a song and they are doing just fine. Maybe you should heed their pricing model. Instead of trying to rip-off those who have already supported you. You get nothing from me "You weak pathetic fools. Your nothing!"
@Crazy_Legs87 Yep. That is exactly what I did, is not purchase it. It just seems a bit irritating to now the content is on the disc, but you have to pay to unlock it? I remember seeing NFS Undercover having the option to either gain points in the game to unlock certain upgrades , or you could purchase them with real $$. I'm sure there were people out there that couldn't wait to gain the points during the game, and went straight to purchasing them. To each his own I guess, but DLC does seem to be getting a tad out of hand.
@ dallas469- Can't always trust wikipedia, that's just user input not always 100 % based on facts. but i hope thats true
Guys! always look into wikipedia its confirmed to be a pack containing Skarlet (a red female character based on a glitch in Mortal Kombat II,Kenshi (a blind swordsman first introduced in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance) and Rain (first seen in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 Also skins for Cyrax and Sektor most likely oldschool skins. Your Welcome.
@gustyaquino its not for one character its for four characters but thats the only character there showing
what a rip 5 bucks for one maybe 2 or 3 for 5 bucks im not paying 5 bucks for one person thats rip off
@spoonybard-hahs this is not a disc lock content. it's 3d texture might be in the disc but it's move set or voice was not finalize before the launch of the game. and one thing if this is a disc lock content they would've announced this the same time as mortal kombat launch
@godzillavskong: Or you can not purchase it. You see, one way for companies to take notice is if the sells of their games go down. Case in point, Capcom's use of DRM, they're people out there that refuse to buy Final Fight: Double Impact and Bionic Commando Rearm 2 because of DRM.
oh thats right i am an australian the bible bashers say that i can't have this game because it would damn my immortal soul
It's pretty lame for us to receive just ONE character this next Tuesday.......I hope they don't continue doing that.
Oh yea & 1 more thing, if the content or in this case the characters r already on the disc, r u technically downloading the character still? Can it b called DLC if the character is on the disc already? Cuz it would seem 2 me that ur not getting the character & everything that comes with her (endings 2 b precise) if its already on the disc. All ur getting is an encryption code so that u can access her. So wut content did u download if its already there just hidden from view by a code?
@Crazy_Legs87 OK. But either way you still have to pay for it to get them, which is even more irritating if they are already on the disc. Just saying that some of the stuff can be a bit steep.
@ DSfanatic If u can find that link 2 wut u read please send it to me. I've been saying this 4 a long time now, DLC is ruining gaming! If any of u ppl really & truly believe that this content isnt on the disc & that ur paying 4 new content u think isnt on the disc than u need 2 open ur eyes & do some more research on the subject @ hand. The best evidence i have is when Soul Calibur 4 came out. The 360 got Yoda as an "exclusive" character & the PS3 got Darth Vader as an "exclusive" character. Now exclusive means its only available on the system u choose 2 buy it on. So y then wuz there an empty space on the Star Wars characters line? & then months later the character that wuznt supposed 2 b on the game magically appeared 4 the price of $5??? Do u honestly think that Yoda & Darth Vader werent on the disc when u payed $60 bucks 4 it? The companies r using this practice out of greed & alienating the customers @ the same time. Its not even about the money 4 me. Its the principle. If its on the disc already, y r we paying more money? Isnt that considered double dipping? We already paid 4 the game with the "DLC" already on it. So y r we paying again?
You know, I'm not surprise to see people all ignorant about this. When they say, "don't like it, don't buy it," you can tell they've ignored important facts about this situation, that was already explain to death. Fanboys is what's ruining gaming. I've said this to Capcom fanboys that keep defending Capcom's half-ass efforts for their games over at Capcom Unity, I suppose if Capcom were to take a dump in a bag and mark 60$ on it they'll gladly pay for it because it's coming from Capcom. Think like a fan, not like a fanboy.
@ solo1g You acknowledge the fact that the pricing is too high but then state that you will still buy it? No offense, but that EXACTLY contributes to the DLC conundrum today.
Buy or dont buy, you have a choice. As far as I am concerned thats four DLCs that will be puchased the day they are released. You may flame me for this (that customers like me make this possible), but I would pay $20 for Goro alone. Sheeva is just not the same, stupid ugly dyke
Abraham Lincoln, one of America's and my beloved country's founding fathers, has always said.......f**k this s**t!
what happened to unlocking stuff by achieving things in game? oh, right, we have trophies now... *roll eyes*. definitely not buying.
As easy as it is to create new characters and clothing in modern 3D software, five dollars is a bit much.
Hey, can we return some of the on-disc characters for a partial refund? Would they take back, say, Kitana, Sonya and Sheeva and give us $15 back? They have no problem selling unlock keys for stuff that's already on the disc, why not take character returns? That way if we don't like certain characters we don't pay for them.
Hmmm... $15 for Rain, Scarlet, and the blind dude. $15 for 4 crappy Black ops maps and MAYBE a decent zombie map. People shell out $15 to pretty much play that single zombie map that MAYBE has a few additions but its the same repetitive crap. Yet complain when given 3 characters? In this day and age I feel we have been blessed instead of cheated my friends.
I certainly hope as little people pay for this as possible. $5 for ONE character is a joke and I don't want them to get encouragement that if they price single characters for that much it will be OK still. I miss the days when you used to just unlock stuff, if this becomes the norm I may be missing the days we got 5 characters or maps or costumes whatever for $3
wow i love MK but come on 5 DOLLARS dam and more costumes.....why not just make one big pack of all the costumes
@Grovilis That was an early rip. Better testing showed she was fully playable after they arranged some files. Like with Jill and Shuma for MVC3, early rips showed them with incomplete moves but after messing around some it showed EVERYTHING was on the disc. Same with this case.
Considering that game cost 59.99 Euros, with a roster of , what?, a little over 20 characters, a long story mode, unlockables, multiplayer, yada yada. How exactly is 4-5 euros for a character a worthwile investment? Seems a tad pricey to me. If it were for four or five characters, fair enough.
@BlackSnake123 The issue isn't income, it's effort. I did admit it's a morally grey issue, but you have to admit also that it's optional content. This could have been a lot worse and people are way too negative about it. If you want to talk about money, put this into another prospective. You buy a 60 dollar phone, excellent quality and even free phone calls. The company later comes out with four different kinds of cases for the phone for 5 dollars each, even though they developed the cases when the phone launched. Now people are crying that they're being stolen from because it wasn't given freely when they bought the phone. ...Really now?
its sucks i like original idea of dlc actual extra stuff but this is in the game already stuff and its bs. i can't do anything but not buy it and theres like 10 more turds replacing every1 like me not buying it.
If you all seen ed boons tweets last month and the video with him on youtube you'd know Skarett was supposed to be free. Just go and rant on twitter where he'll respond back how hard is it. Five dollars is alot if you have bills to pay I pay 60 to enjoy a video game for an addition 5 please let it be worth it. The klassics were already on the disc just play the tower if you don't believe me. This is the main reason people worried about DLC in the first place, for all the retards supporting it" if you don't like it, don't buy it who cares" just wait until they come out with a MK, SF, or MVC game and you gotta pay 2.00 a move set. just look NRS is starting it right now 5.00 = 7 costumes and 3 fatalities
@hacktsukasa most of the profit goes to the company owners not to workers or developers. And btw you just rationalize what you know is wrong,it is already on the disc and it could be active at the day one, selling it later to us is sort of a fraud.
Stop all of the complaining guys. You're not being "nickel and dimed to death". It's optional DLC. The only reason you'd want to buy it is if you're a fan of the character anyways, it's not like you must pay 20 dollars to continue playing your game you bought. You don't have to buy it nor support the company. Sure it sounds a bit grey because the content is on the disk, but just think that your 5 dollars is going to help continue supporting the game further on to the future. At least you aren't forced into having to buy a whole new game or pay a subscription fee for it, like MANY other games. Or that everyone who bought the content will have a competitive edge in multiplayer. It's just new OPTIONAL characters that will ultimately keep the game feeling fresh. Keep this kind of attitude up and watch companies like netherrealm be forced into just shelling out the game they worked hard on, put collective years of their lives into and then having to abandon it to work on MK10 instead of being able to continue to support it. Would you as a game developer want that? Ridiculous.
I read somewhere that hackers confirmed all characters are already on the retail disc, and you pay to unlock what's already there. Even Kratos is on the Xbox 360 disc. This is a prime example of how game companies are abusing DLC content, and it needs to end.
@BlackSnake123 I been tryna preach this fact to kiddies for awhile now...but it's just the nature of the age we are in. It's our own faults though because we keep buying all this s***. If everyone were to stop buying, they'd stop creating DLCs and just include them as unlockables (like the good ole days)...that goes for all games
kenshi and rain 10$ for people who should already be in the game in the first place im tired of companies short changing us
this is theft. DLC is a fraud. Why not put it there in the first place? Selling a character at 5$,that'll mean 20$ for four and if you add the 60$ of the cost of the original you pay 80$ for a game, isnt this theft and fraud? People please boycott DLC,this is a real disrespect towards consumers.
