Warner Bros. reveals Kollector's and Tournament editions, retailer-exclusive fatalities and preorder bonuses, playable Kratos and 3D support in PS3 version.
The Mortal Kombat series has always placed a heavy emphasis on secrets, but Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today laid bare much of its launch plan for the franchise's next installment. The publisher today specified a launch window for the violent fighter, as well as retailer-exclusive preorder incentives, system-exclusive features, and multiple premium editions.
When the game launches on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in April 2011, it will be available in three different versions: the standard release, a Kollector's Edition, and a Tournament Edition. The Kollector's Edition will include Sub-Zero and Scorpion figurines, an art book, and a downloadable classic costume skin and avatar outfits. The Tournament Edition will be limited to 20,000 copies in North America, and it will include a portable fight stick, in addition to an exclusive downloadable classic costume and avatar outfits.
In addition to choosing which version's bonuses to get, consumers will also have a choice when it comes to retailer-specific preorder incentives. WBIE announced deals with three retailers that will see customers get playable classic costumes, as well as an original fatality for a specific character. GameStop will give players the classic costume and fatality for Scorpion, with Best Buy claiming the same for Sub-Zero, and Amazon offering those bonuses for Reptile.
Exclusive content is a theme for the latest installment in the long-running fighter. WBIE has also revealed that God of War protagonist Kratos will be a playable character in the PS3 version of the game. It will be the Ghost of Sparta's second tilt in a fighter, as he was also a playable character in last year's PSP brawler Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny. Kratos isn't the only PS3-excluisve planned for the game, as the version of Mortal Kombat for Sony's system will also feature stereoscopic 3D support.

Kratos is only available in vs mode only on PS3. Was going to get the PS3 version but I don't play vs mode that often.
ok they say that Kratos will be the exclusive character for the PS3 right ??? but who will be the exclusive character for the X360 ????
I think eventually the exclusive costumes is going to be available as DLC sometime in the future. GOW3 was the same way with 6 different costumes from different places but eventually made to dlc altogether.
I'd rather these exclusives be available to "everyone" over DLC, but that's just wishful thinking... Bargain bin ftl. ._. but I couldn't give a rat's *** about a portable fighting stick. I have a real fighting stick in my car trunk.
I'm beginning to disagree with exclusive content. This limits people to their system or where they bought the game. A good game depends on variety. I do not wish to have to turn on a totally different system just to play a character or have something the other version does not have. Perhaps they have over thought about exclusive content, because now it just seems like a pain.
@MysTiC_MaguS You obviously did not understand what was said. I know you still get Fatalities. What I was saying is its aload of crap when they release certain contant because of where you bought the game. And if there going to have classic outfits and fatalities they should be included regardless of where you purchase the game. Or make them downloadable. Not exclusive to where you bought the game. Next time learn how to read.
@oneligas That's a good point. There's been lots of MK's...where the hell has Rare been in putting out a new Killer Instinct?! After all these years, MK and Tekken have survived...where's my Jago Ultra combos??? :)
Wow! All those bonuses and the only thing I'll be looking for on its release date is for the merchant that has it at $10 below retail price. With the money saved and my Sony points I'm also going to buy a 3D TV...... maybe.
They made a mistake with the reserve bonuses, it doesn't make sense to exclude special fatalities to were you reserve it, they should of made a bonus that is the same everywhere or a bonus such as character skins for each retailer. Kratos sounds cool in MK until actually playing as him which will most likely be broken and unbalanced. 3d is not cool for anything for me because i don't have perfect 20/20 vison.
@TheTrueMagusX1 : You obviously read it wrong. My feelings on Avatar and 3D are the complete opposite, and always have been.
reptiles a nobody and best buy keeps its prices higher than most retail stores so id go with scorpion and gamestop
I'll wait until I can buy the complete game with everything on the disc. And if that doesn't happen, I guess I don't need another Mortal Kombat.
@TheTrueMagusX1 : You must really have me mixed up with someone else man, because in complete honesty, I have never uttered a single word like that about Avatar. Not even close. Avatar, and 3D, has NOTHING of that kind of effect on me and I feel the exact opposite of what you said I do. You simply got the wrong guy. Flat out.

Retailer-exclusive fatalities= Ultra Lame. And to think I was ready to give this an official "Woo!" :?
whats with everyone complaining about being robbed?!? Its not going to change your online or gameplay experience whether you buy a special edition or not... I mean all it is adding to the game is fatalities and costumes all AESTHETICS, i dont even know how you guys are getting moves involved (quit spreading rumors) plus if you really want all the extras so bad then buy a special edition... i mean i dont see how anyone is being robbed one special comes with an AWESOME arcade stick and the other comes with extremely detailed action figures and MORE Besides the extra game costumes and fatalities will probably be available in a few months time from release anyway
I hate all this retailer exclusive stuff. Way to rob everyone else a portion of the game, no matter how small.
yeah they only mention fatalities and costumes, but you know they will eventually have characters for download
Retailer exclusive fatalities? That's just dumb, all I know is that I'd better be able to get the other features later like with a code or something. I really don't like the whole "oh you'll get this with the game if you buy it from a certain place" nonsense. Just gimmie the freakin' game I paid for!
Ryo Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden wouldn't be a bad choice for the Xbox 360 version although he is not exactly exclusive to the xbox...
@x_pain: The thing is they didn't release crappy games before Sonic Color---ever hear of Sonic the Hedgehog 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Sonic CD, and Sonic Adventure? Yeah, all were million sellers and socially acceptable. I don't see how anyone growing up in the 90's could miss that. Sonic Colors brought Sonic back to his Adventure roots. In a nutshell Sega was making quality Sonic games long before they were making the crappy ones. The garbage Sonic games consist of Shadow The Hedgehog's gun game and Sonic next-gen (featuring Silver). Now THOSE were bad.
ugh... i was semi-interested in buying this game upon first hearing about it. can't say i feel the same way anymore now that different versions = slightly different game. ...mortal pokemon.
This kinda sucks. Firstly, I'm a XBOX player. There will be no exclusive character (which I'm fine with. This is MK not Soul Calibur). The XBOX is getting the MK avatar that can be used in King of the Hill mode online (I guess to offset not getting an exclusive character). As far as the exclusive fatalities and costumes... geez... really? I would prefer the classic Reptile costume and the classic Sub-Zero fatality. But I have to choose- and I don't EVER buy games at Best Buy or Amazon (and wait for it to ship while everyone is playing the game). All this exclusive stuff is getting out of hand honestly. And it's making my excitement for the game diminish.
@Waldkrieger Actually you did, and I donot remember exactly what the thread was, but you did say Avatar and its 3D made you feel the wonder of film that you have not felt in years. So yes, I do remember that quite well....
Kompletely wicked sick! I'm still waiting for a 3DS MK. I know Boon & Krew are planning one. Drooling at the prospect.
Aaaah.. Retailer Exclusive Fatality that a month or so later will be available for the rest us via a 'wonderful' DLC purchase. FANTASTIC!!!
Where are people getting this pay extra for maps & characters? Nowhere in here does it say anything about DLC. Those are extra costumes their talking about people!
Well since there are hardly anymore exclusive games out there this will have to be the next best thing. In-game exclusives depending on where you buy and for what system you buy for.
I see a problem with charging more for an extra fatality, map, coustume, character. It is even worse when you pay full price for it on day one. My question is how do we stop this trend though?
