Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment sets worldwide downloadable debut for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC compilation of original MK, MK2, and Ultimate MK3.
It's a fine time to be a fighting game fanatic with an Internet connection, as publishers are putting out downloadable donnybrooks left and right. This week has already seen the release of Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online Edition and the announcement of Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown, and it turns out next week will welcome the arrival of Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today announced that its flagship fighting franchise compilation will launch around the world on August 31.
The downloadable Arcade Kollection will include "arcade-perfect" ports of the original Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat II, and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. While the Xbox 360 has previously received a port of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and the PlayStation 3 launched with Mortal Kombat II available digitally, this will be first time the original Mortal Kombat has been released for either console.
Each game included in the compilation will receive a handful of enhancements, including online multiplayer support, trophies/achievements, and leaderboards. The package is priced at $10 (800 Microsoft points), which might come as a relief to those who remember last year's retail listings for a Mortal Kombat compilation at $40.
Other Ocean has been handling development duties on the game with an assist from Mortal Kombat developer NetherRealm Studios. While the studio has produced plenty of family-friendly titles--its latest iPhone game, Scout's ABC Garden, was published by Leap Frog Entertainment--Other Ocean does have some previous experience with WBIE's notorious fighting franchise. The studio was responsible for the well-received 2007 DS port of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, which earned kudos specifically for its online play.
[UPDATE]: WBIE has since amended the release date for the game, noting that North American PlayStation 3 payers will be able to download the compilation beginning August 30. Players on other platforms and in other territories will need to wait the extra day.
Don't worry, leeko_link, you can probably buy Kano's Noob Saibot for $5 as an add-on. There should be a glitch-free version of Mortal Kombat GOLD though.
Ten bucks for three games is just plain nice! Much better than Capcom throwing out all their fighting game ports for fifteen bucks a pop.
@santinegrete MAME supports joysticks, I play my games with my Logitech gamepad. Just press TAB to access the menu and configure the games inputs for your joystick. As for playing on the internet, there's only one way I know of and it's by using Kaillera (google it). I've never used it since I rarely play games on the internet.
I hope it's not as hard as MK2 for PS3. Holy shhhiii!!!! is that game HARD!!! Harder than a priest in a playground!!!
"Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection koming August 31" Why isn't there a K instead of a C in "Arcade"? I has disappoint..
they need to bring back mortal kombat trilogy and bring back the brutalities thats wat i wanna do ultimate mk 3 arcade edition dont have brutalities and that sucks
I've been waiting for this for years and was saddened when the Kombat Kollection was cancelled. Now that it's coming to more than one console I'm overjoyed. More people need to know how awesome MK is. I think people who have never played the arcade versions are going to be impressed. Wonderful news.
Actually, can we ditch the trilogy on PC and have the NEW Mortal Kombat instead please on pc? I already have the trilogy on MAME and emulators on PC, id love to play the new game though in PC resolution and graphics and smoothness. Street fighter 4 on pc is epic.
$10 for all 3 games?! Chea!!! First day purchase for me! Might even buy a 2nd controller and invite my homies over for a good ol fashioned ass whoopin'
@minty_cbo @Tardylam I'm with minty_cbo: Why not just re-release feakin' MK Trilogy? This $10 deal (I'll be getting for PC) is sweet, but MKT would be more logical. And these 3 in a set are NOT MKT; MKT was a stand alone game with EVERY karacter from the first 3 MKs in a single cohesive game. My brother still has the N64 cart of MKT.
@yasinizawesome You make games with widescreen for people who have widescreen tvs..............................
Some gaming companies can be really, really stupid sometimes. Like why in the world would you make a game widescreen? who would buy that . I personally wouldn't buy the DLC just because of that
Are you people so stupid or something? There all available on Mame32 FOR FREE!!! I play them all the time...
I wonder if it will have full wide screen support.....also when I first heard news about this they where going to turn everything into HD, I'm guessing that was too much work so they now just putting the arcade ports in, oh well.
@Tardylam While this is the MK trilogy, there was a game called MK Trilogy for the N64 some time back. That is the game "minty_cbo" is referring to.
@ minty_cbo This is the MK trilogy. Its says they the Arcade Kollection includes MK I, MK II, and Ult MK III. Or are you saying you want the console versions to be released? But back then, the arcade versions were always WAY better than the console versions.
Better yet? why not re-release Mortal Kombat Trillogy? oh..that will be xmas time for $10 more.. make me go break out my old N64 that I got day it was released Way back when....lol
@Mikezero-Legend They have a new MK game out, if you want new go buy that, if you want a collection of the previous games then buy this.
I wish they would stop mis-spelling everything with a 'k'. (sigh) It's no wonder the kids of today are morons. ;)
@GOR_TAK It would be awesome, but that only applies if the company disappears and none acquires the rights. It's a nice thought thou... :)
I can't believe this! The other day I was feeling nostalgic, and hoping they'd release this one day. I guess God has answered my prayers, LOL.
Buying these three games for $10 is a good deal but I was disappointed that the original MK3 and the later MK4 didn't get included as this is an arcade edition of the MK games and you're missing 2 MK arcade games. Though MK3 and MK4 aren't as well receive as MK1, 2, and Ultimate, there were still a few features in those two games that I still enjoy like fighting against the Richard Divizio's version of Noob Saibot in MK3 and discovering all the kombat kodes in MK4.
I want to see an HD remake, even if they have to redo the actors I think that would look pretty awesome.
