Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate adding cross-region play, off-TV support

Capcom to release software update in April that will merge NA and EU game servers, allow gamers to play entirely on GamePad.

Capcom announced today that a post-launch software update for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate will add cross-region play and off-TV support for the Wii U action game.

The update will arrive in April and will merge the North American and European game servers to allow all users to play together. "This is happening solely because you communicated your thoughts very loud and clear--and it made sense," Capcom said.

The publisher reiterated that online play for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is free and that the game will be supported by free downloadable content quests delivered "almost every week."

The first extra quests will be available when the game launches March 19 in North America and March 22 in Europe.

As for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate off-TV play, when the update arrives, gamers will be able to play the entire game solely on the Wii U GamePad screen. Capcom said this feature was one of the first requests it received when the game was announced.

A 3DS version of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is also on the way.

How about also addressing the fact you still can't play the damn portable online even though the system is fully capable of it ....

@Zignoff They are actually making a piece of equipment for the U that relays the 3DS signal. Most I heard is it is a go for Europe and a probability for NA. So go buy a Wii U and spend more money.

Pretty sure I played a few games with people from all round the world on the old PSP games, but part of me thinks this is a way to bring down costs by running less servers, say hello to possible lag.

Capcom... I don't know what to say. This goes against everything you've stood for for a long time. I'm impressed and honestly incredibly shocked at the same time.  Someone pinch me.

So the other times gamers have voiced their opinion to you about certain aspects of certain games, you heard us, but they didn't make sense? Well, Mr. "Capcom", I thank you for your honesty. I may not agree with it, but thank you for clearing that up.

Cool. One of the devs were saying just lask week on CapcomUnity that the game would probably never be playable on the GamePad only. So that's good news.

@Rovelius Actually it's still not playable on the gamepad... What ? Oh ? It's not playable period.

This is really cool, this was the only thing that had me annoyed with the game, but now it's fixed and i'm happy! I'm new to MH, and though the combat seemed stiff, i really liked the action, and i can't wait! Oh and i saw a comment earlier saying 'finally some good news for the Wii U', honestly there's plenty of good news for the Wii U on Nintendo dedicated sites, but these sites who focus on multiple platforms seem to jump past those news most of the time, and it's not like bad news isn't coming Xbox and PS3's way all the time, it's just that they are established consoles and doing well. Well well, this wasn't suppose to be a debate, i would just like to point out that the Wii U is great, i love mine, and with MH coming out, some other March releases, April stuff coming, it seems like the machine is slowly building momentum.

@manoogian

Oh the stupidity. No PvP, yes, difficulty? Now you're proving what an idiot you are. Anyways, it's Monster Hunter, a game you can get more hours of playtime than 25 Western AAA titles combined.

manoogian

@abHS4L88 @manoogian lol so the game that eats the most time out of you life is the best? Your life must be so exciting.

chang_1910
chang_1910

@manoogian @abHS4L88 ok then on that line.. have you ever play white night chronicles for ps3? is similar (to the online coop of course) but the monster battle are a LOT more impressive, and imho the carving of monster is better (u can do more with the carving / farming)

if u have not play WKC series, hmmm... is a fantasy adveture, dunno if will say rpg (u have weapons and upgrades, but i dont thing it can be call an rpg in all sense of the word) u go into quest, and rank your "hunter" Solo play is not as excited, but multiplayer is amazingly fun :)

enjoy gaming

manoogian

@abHS4L88 @manoogian actually it was an observation from someone who's never even heard of the game, yes ignorant, but not in negative type of way you're making it out to be.

abHS4L88

@manoogian @abHS4L88

No, the game that offers the most value for what I pay for I would favor over a game that lasts for 10 hours. I got Fire Emblem shortly after it came out and didn't mind not getting any new games for the past month because I've been having a blast with Fire Emblem.

I can't justify spending $60 on a 10 hour game, but $60 on a game that could last me 50-80 hours is easily worth it. My life is exciting, because I have other hobbies outside of videogames. At least I'm not the one making ignorant statements.

@manoogian demon and dark souls are awesome, one of the best, if no the best RPG in a long time; but completely different to MH.. so i m going to assume u r just trolling and no that u r that ignorant, and did not even google a bit before posting

@manoogian Are you just being an ass or are you serious?  Monster hunter was originally on the ps2.  It also is not an easy game by any means, and has more interesting combat mechanics by forgoing lockon and making you actually have to find your target.

@Tripwolf

I have a British friend who's now excited that he can play with us in the US. Last I checked, they speak English in England, I also have many friends in Germany, all capable of speaking English because you know, English is the most widely spoken language in the world. But it's okay, continue living in your ignorant bubble.

JimmeyBurrows

@abHS4L88 I laughed quite a bit at "they speak English in England" just how derp can someone be to not realise this? Then again maybe he's on about the scousers, even I don't always understand them, lol.

But on a serious note, having played Lol quite a bit almost every Eu country has English as a second language in schools (and they teach it really well), which makes me sad that at my English school they bearly taught me how to say there's a bus stop in one language, makes me feel ignorant : (

@JimmeyBurrows @abHS4L88

Even in Asia, English is still fairly common. In the Philippines and Japan, they teach English over there.

I do remember seeing this one chart yesterday of average number of languages spoken from each country.

Japan - 1.2

England -1.4

France - 1.7

China - 1.9

Spain - 2.1

Luxembourg - 2.7

Sweden - 3.2

USA - 0.7

XD maybe that's why.

@Tripwolf @SirApathetic005 is simple with news to ppl that have friends/family in EU... and it does not remove from ppl that is not affected, all my gaming friends are in US, but when a game is worldwide is always more ppl around, more opportunities for others, it does not remove anything for me (or you as far as i can imaging) so .. cool

@Tripwolf @SirApathetic005 Holy shit, are you really that dense? There are English speakers ALL across Europe and I'm not even mentioning the UK.
