Why does it matter if MW3 use the same engine as MW2, im going to buy the game for the campaign's storey and for the fun it brings, no need to wine about the graphics as its already decent
News magazine lets Activision use iconic front face for Call of Duty promotional campaign.
Time bills itself as "the world's most influential magazine," with a publishing history stretching back 88 years. Now the news weekly is lending that influence--in the form of its iconic logo and red cover border--to Activision to help promote Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
According to a New York Times report, Activision and Time have paired to bring gamers a fake magazine cover that will be used as promotional material and as a preorder incentive for Modern Warfare 3 at GameStop locations nationwide. According to the Times, this is the first time Time has allowed its image to be used for a commercial product.
As for the faux magazine cover, it was created by Activision and features an image of a battered Wall Street, complete with a fake headline that reads "World Stands on the Brink" and a deck head that states "Tensions Rise Across Europe." These headlines fall in line with what is expected of the game, as the title will feature battles across the globe in places like the United States, Germany, France, and England.
According to Time's publisher, Kim Kelleher, the decision to let Activision use its image was made to tap into a demographic the magazine has struggled to connect with.
"This is where the boys are," Kelleher said. "This is a great way to connect with millions of people we might not have otherwise connected with. I like the concept of Time being a related brand of something that's happening in 2030," she added. "That makes me happy."
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games' follow-up to Treyarch's blockbuster hit Call of Duty: Black Ops. It is due out for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC (Wii and DS versions have not been announced) on November 8. For more on the title, check out GameSpot's most recent preview of the game.
@alixkid you probably need to reread my last comment because there's still some unanswered questions. but anyway, when did I say I live in a dorm room? I honestly live with my girlfriend and we play Black Ops maybe once a week at the most. I know it's not the greatest game out there but it's fun here and there. to be honest with you, I don't always play serious in the game. it's pretty fun to mess around with the people that take the game so seriously.
@coylenintendo Uumm Ok so your 21, living in a Dorm, Playing COD?? and the guy you play with is a 12 year old?? And you say i have no social Life. And all because i can see though the MW3 Blush and rouge?? Whatever.. I don't like the MW and I think there is a better product out there is all.
@alixkid I try to read your comment seriously but I can't help but laugh at how upset you sound over a video game lmao and what's up with Gamespot's cow and 12 year old boy fetish? a lot of people seem to talk about them these days. but back to the main point, I'm actually almost 21. not that age ever had anything to do with it. and oh well? you didn't like Black Ops and you returned it, end of story. no need to cry on every COD related news story you see. and you called me a lemming..? whatever the hell that is. and also, I've only played Battlefield a couple times. I never even said it was a bad game so I don't know why you're bringing that up now. and even if I did get beat at the game, there's no shame in losing to people who choose playing video games until the sun comes up instead of having some sort of social life.
@coylenintendo to be honest i'll never buy the game i had blackops for less than 24 hours before i returned it for a refund and just by that game play i know whats to come with MW3 it will be Black ops 5.0. Dude your a Lemming like all the 12 year olds who play COD follow the crap game. Your probley one of the guys who in the last few months have tried to play BFBC2 only to get your @$$ handed to him by some BF vets. My money is going to BF3
Both this and BF3 look like really good games. Regardless of which is better, it's pretty safe to say that MW3 will outsell Battlefield.
@mikees1 The engine is always the same when i say the engine I mean how the player interacts and specially about graphics because thats what I care about much
I've lost all respect for time magazine. Promoting a video game that is not even up with the time's standards.
Fake cover. Just like this sequel will be without the original creators who managed the success of this series. They're gone this game is done - moving on.
@cyforces Think you will find Black Ops uses the same engine as MW2. Just as WaW used MW1's engine. You do not need to be a genius to notice it!
I will say it over and over again I hope this new game developers make a good upgrade of mw2. Battlefield people that come over and say battlefield this and that they dont know what they are talking about. Cars and big maps that you are lost in them was never the purpose of Modern Warfare. So we dont compare this two. If you are playing both fine. But if you are playing only Modern Warfare you dont give a ..... As a mw2 I expect most of the features and gameplay to be the same with some new features and better design such graphics of the game. What I dont want to see is same everything, with different story and new maps. Then dont call it Mw3, call it expansion story and maps of mw2.Im most of COD fun so battlefield dont interest me at all because I play the gameplay I didnt like it.But I dont say that is not good or is impossible to be the more playable by gamers. The only thing I saw is really good graphic improvement and more realistic gameplay. Dice seems to made a really good job. Be aware this is only my opinion for what I saw until now. When the game is realised then we will have more optical perspective how the game goes.
@Sanel_aka_Sano I dont think so that the use the same engine for Black Ops because the graphics was not compared at all with the ones of mw2, they more likely use the enigne of Cod5.
truthfully this is actually a pretty good ad, the real question is why people continually shell out $60+ for the same game and DLC every year, COD1 and COD4 are the ONLY good ones
COD release strategy: -Make, admittedly, a good game. -Add a few features. -Slap on a fresh coat of paint. -Release ever year. -Profit.
annnnnd they think this will make up for the gameplay and graphics that are subpar to bf3. rofl activision.
Whats all this fuss about Battlefield 3? I have played Battlefield 2 and it was actually good. But I havent been checking BF3 out. Idk why you guys keep comparing it.
@coylenintendo Dude go watch the MW3 gameplay they did on the gamespot stage at E3. They say its the same engine and that dude was right so umm get your facts straight. They've bin using the same engine for Mw2, Black Ops, and Mw3. Maybe even before that. They just slightly change the graphics.
to be honest i dont read this magazine so i could care less all that matters is that the game is good against competitors
lol @ people who think this is on an actual issue of time i guess 80% of people don't actually read articles before commenting
@alixkid so I guess you somehow played the game already to know that? or you're one of the programmers for the game? @yahoo1979 very creative, taking what everyone else says and slightly changing it. honestly, the cover is pretty cool. I wouldn't have minded getting the actual poster but I wasn't about to preorder the game just to get it. unlike the crazy gamers, I can wait to play a video game if it isn't available right away. but back to my main point, people need to stop judging games before they're even released. there's too many people, or hipsters, out there that hate mainstream music and now even video games. can people get even more lame? "that game is so popular, I'm so cool because I'm putting down a video game before it's even released." so what are guys listening to? a band that only you've heard of and a video game that you created yourself? seriously, get a life that doesn't involve bashing everything. if I don't like a video game, I play something else. not sit there and cry on Gamespot about it.
MW 3 should rename it to "Call of duty: Recycle Ops." or "MW 2 New York Escalation Pack." Now that's very expensive DLC that I ever heard.
Im a mw2 player and from what I saw Im disgusted about the way they developing this game. I dont know does developers ever played modern warfare. When I saw the texture of the heli it was look like a cod4 heli. I hope iam wrong but I dont want to experience the same things with Black ops. Or Mw2 cause to be honest mw2 it is a really good game but if there is no so much defferent from mw3 I will be dissapointed. If this is the case I beggin this people rebuild the game with better graphics. If not Im waiting anyway to see my self. I will get opinions first before buying the game because I dont do twice the mistakes. We were all excitment for Black Ops and when we actully install it and of course most of them couldnt even their pc was recommented for playing it.
How can you people even discredit a game you haven't even played yet?! so what if modern warfare doesn't look spectacularly amazing as bf3 i'm sure its still going to be a great game. better then anything any of you could ever produce so how about stop insulting the developers they don't control what Activision does they are just doing their jobs, very well i might add.
Time Magazine must not have any gamers what so ever if they are willing to team up with a company who absolutely doesn't care about its fans at all. If they had one shred of journalistic integrity they would compare this game to its competitors and come to the conclusions that a lot of people are angry and disappointed with Modern Warfare games and Activision. They are far better off putting Battlefield 3 on the cover, a game from a gaming company with an excellent reputation where most people enjoy and nearly everyone respects. Its too bad that a company like Activision that has millions and millions to spend on advertising and marketing can't even spend half of that on R&D (research and development) to make a game that isn't a slight change from the previous. These days the good games get un-noticed and the bad recycled games like Modern Warfare 3 are over hyped to death by todays media.
MW3 lol its the same engine as MW2 and Black ops just more finger painting and tweeks just to compete with BF3.
Truth is, if you are not Globe or the enquirer, you mags are not exactly flying off the shelf.Magazines have become more expensive due to loosing advertisers and also have had to cut content and are much thinner.Plus if you are are a regular online reader...you will notice the lag in news reported in the mags. They have to find new ways to get creative and fast.If i were them i would try getting more involved in the schools...people still HAVE to read books there.
I have been playing COD since COD 3 and I was just recently introduced to BF 2. I must say that after playing BF 2, I am completely hooked. I have enjoyed playing the different series in COD, but I now consider myself BF fan. That is just my honest opinion.
you have got to be kidding me. the real question is exactly how much crack cocaine does the call of duty marketing department consume in a day. what an absolutely worthless franchise. how about they learn to program and make a quality product first before misleading the ignorant. on the flipside i guess its cool that video games in general are getting this level of attention.
So why does this game deserve to be on Time's cover? I really don't see the significance in it to put in on Time:|
" safaridriver- Unless you suck at Duty then I see your dilema" Listen kid why dont you come right now play bf2 with the big boys and see if u can keep it up aye....hey tell u what if u manage to kill someone i give u a candy aye? if u dont u cant return to your call of candyland and keep killing kids...
ok i understand that most people who comment are MW3 haters, but is it really necessary to point out how much you hate it on EVERY article? geez, you guys complain how MW has 13 year old kids ruining the game, but don't seem to recognize you are practically doing the same thing everytime you complain on every MW3 article or preview, etc. Just buy BF3 or MW3 whichever floats your boat, and grow up, it's just a game.
piyush18 Thats the power of COD MW3 ... ) CORRECTION thats the power of little kids like you who are closed minded and believe and bying every crap activision showing too.Anw happy gaming with mw1.....OUPS SRY i thought it was mw1 since nothing has change at all everything looks EXACTLY THE SAME.
This article shows me two things: 1) the power of money; and 2) how much in shambles is the print media.
