MLG-produced game inevitable

CEO Sundance DiGiovanni says company will eventually make its own game, though it feels no rush to do so right away.
Major League Gaming CEO Sundance DiGiovanni told The Penny Arcade Report that an internally produced game is inevitable, though the competitive gaming company is in no rush.
"One day we will. One day we will. Yeah," he said. "We've had people approach us about it. Right now we want to focus on partners with games like PlanetSide 2 and help them broaden out and take advantage of what we’ve built."
"But we can also take advantage of their understanding of the game mechanics. We've done this with folks at Bungie, with folks at Activision. We've done it with lots of studios. We've done that enough times to have the understanding to take to our own title, eventually."
No firm plans are in place just yet for the MLG-developed game, but DiGiovanni said he hopes it would "disrupt" the current state of play.
"The thing is, I think it would have to be derivative of a few things. I loved Quake, and I've played a lot of Counter-Strike and fighting games," DiGiovanni said. "The perfect game for me is something that would disrupt a little. I've always dreamed of a multi-screen experience where you have players and coaches interacting and having touch surfaces and communication, but that's so complicated and hard to explain."
Whatever the case, DiGiovanni and MLG are not likely to create the game anytime soon. "I don't want to rush," he said.

So much hate and ignorance in these comments. It's a shame because some of you would enjoy e-sports if you actually took the time to learn what it is. E-sports will continue to grow at a steady rate and those that are along for the ride will be in for a lot of entertainment to say the least.
Competition can be very stresful and some people just want to enjoy their free time with the games (believe me, I'm talking from experience). Sure the E-sports had such a growth. As much as you say, it's undeniable. But I don't think it will get popular with all gamers, ever.
@santinegrete I 100% agree but none of what you said warrants the hate and ignorance. My points still stand.
This just in: it's gonna be called "Call of Legends: Starcraft Kombat 2 x Tekken: Halo Warfare: MLG Pro Edition"

Wow it's inevitable. Well let's just sit down and wait on this supposed "news". I may eventually make a game but I'm in no hurry. Square Enix may eventually remake FF7 in other important breaking news.
6 Like About half of the posters here must have a real difficult time with reading comprehension... They want to create a shooter that is competitive... Something that puts players on an even playing field with balanced weapons and competitive maps... Certainly not everyones cup of tea but there are plenty who enjoy it.
Where any of you are getting the idea that it will be a simulation on the life of a pro gamer is beyond me....
2 Like what the hell would the game possibly about ? stretching before a super intensive session of controller movement ? or maybe a bunch of mini games, like one where you see how much cheetos and Mtn Dew you can eat in a minute. $5 says its with kinect.

1 Like I have been a member of the MLG community since early '05 and have seen it grow from super small venues in a hotel conference room to mega events that look like something off of ESPN. That being said I still question the ability for them to create a game with any sort of staying power.
Fact is, if the masses don't want to play it... It will never get the attention needed to make it viable on a pro circuit. Shootmania is insanely competitive.... Most have never played it and when they see it have no interest in it. That is a problem.
The best thing they could hope for is a Shadowrun 2. It would need to be promoted waaayyy more than the first one but the first one was a good game and it was hella competitive for a console shooter.
I first thought this had something to do with the Sundance Film Festival (one of the largest independent film festivals in USA), because of the CEO's name being Sundance Giovanni, and then thinking "Doesn't MLG stand for Major League Gaming? Are they making a game together with the Sundance Film Festival? An indie games perhaps?". Don't know what I think about this (the actual thing, not my confused idea), I'll have to wait and see.

1 Like The fact of the matter is that a good portion of games have MLG influences. It is seen in black ops, halo, and starcraft 2.
Developers are already starting to see the effectiveness of focusing on good gameplay. I don't think we will get an "MLG" based game I do think MLG will be included in games that want to be respected in any decent competition setting.
I guess it will be sooooper balanced. There will be one map which is a cube "to make sure there will be no camping" and only one weapon "so everyone will be equal". It litterally amazes me that all that "pro", "tournament", etc. guys are willing to take off everything from games to make it "fair".
