MLB 2K13 due March 5

2K Sports bringing baseball sim to Xbox 360 and PS3 later this year; $1 million Perfect Game challenge also returning.

MLB 2K13 will be on store shelves March 5 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, 2K Sports announced today. The game's existence had been in question, as 2K Sports parent publisher Take-Two Interactive's deal with Major League Baseball was reportedly due to expire at the end of 2012.

According to today's announcement, Take-Two has reached a new agreement with Major League Baseball, the Major League Baseball Players Association, and Major League Baseball Advanced Media. Terms of this deal were not disclosed.

“We’d like to thank our league partners for their support in helping us reach an agreement to bring back MLB 2K,” said 2K Sports vice president of marketing Jason Argent in a statement.

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher David Price was chosen as the cover athlete for MLB 2K13. Price was the 2012 American League Cy Young Award winner, posting a 20-5 record and a league-topping 2.56 ERA.

Also returning for MLB 2K13 is the Perfect Game Challenge, which carries a $1 million cash prize. This year, a new contest format will be introduced with "exciting ways to win." These were not detailed, though 2K Sports said additional details on the contest will be announced later. The Perfect Game Challenge is not open to those in Arizona, Connecticut, Maryland, North Dakota, or Vermont.

MLB 2K13 is in development at Novato, California-based Visual Concepts.

@Gladestone1 When I found out 2K13 was coming out, I cancelled my MLB 13 The Show pre-order.  2K13 may not be as good of a "simulation", but it's always been far more accessible and a helluva lot more fun to play!

Crap, I haven't played a baseball game since Tony Larussa's game for the Genesis. That seems like a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

Oh no, while I was reading this IMPORTANT NEWS about a game I could do without my eye caught the news about the dog Fluffy who got his moment in the spotlight on a random social website and completely lost the opportunity to learn about this sports game...Oh well, I will wait until next year this time for the next very succinct edition of just-another sports game...

I had hoped the deal with MLB would expire and EA (or anyone else really) would step up and bring some decent baseball to the XBOX.

Oh, well, guess I'll be buying my second PS3 game.

This game has been trash for the past 5+ years, disappointing to hear that they renewed their contract with 2K

@bizuit It's been at its best since 2k10.  You haven't played it obviously.

@no1cardsfan05 @mmcavs mmcavs is right.  The Show has far too many online play issues, and 2K has been pretty solid the past few years, especially when playing each other online.

The Show was one of the main reasons I bought a PS3. Just couldn't handle 2K anymore.

Damnit! I don't want 2K making baseball games anymore! WHAT EVER HAPPENED WITH EA!?!? This news disgusts me.

@Tribesmaster The funny thing is that everyone has said the same thing about EA making NFL games.  2K should take over football and EA should take over baseball.

@miklifton MVP Baseball 2005 was a piece of crap of a baseball game.  It felt like playing an old NES game.

While it sucks that GameSpot doesn't have a Sports Editor, I am glad it was one of the few sites that didn't write obituaries about the demise of MLB 2K Funny seeing Operation Sports and Pasta Padre back-peddle with this announcement; especially since they were so adament there would be no game. It's the difference between professional and fan-sites.

But, considering the short turn around, I suspect that there will be very little improvement in 2K13 over 2K12 and last year's game wasn't that good anyway. Yes, it was easily accessible but the lack of improvements held it back. I hope I am wrong but it won't be easy to impress. I also really hope that 2K Sports goes with the cheaper price point to compete. Release their game at 39.99 and it will sell copies to the more casual of sports gamer.

The Show is better, there's no real valid arguments there.  But 360 owners do not have that luxury.

2k has the NBA all to themselves and they produce a phenomenal game.   They have competition with the MLB license (on the PS3 at least) and they release a sorta crappy MLB 2k series.   Makes zero sense to me.

What a joke. The Show is where it's at. Vote Cutch.

I mainly play the Show nowadays, but 2K can be a fun alternative at times. Good to hear XBOX owners will have an option again this year. ( I own both consoles, and both franchises )

The big news here is the possible exclusivity deal extension. I guess MVP 20xx is a long ways off.
