Minecraft Xbox 360 sells 3 million

Creator Markus Persson reveals Xbox 360 version of open-world creation game goes triple platinum since launch in May, generating $60 million.
If its record-breaking launch wasn't proof enough, Minecraft for the Xbox 360 is now a bonafide commercial success. Creator Markus Persson announced on Twitter today that the game has now sold 3 million copies on Xbox Live, generating $60 million since launch in early May.
"I got told Minecraft for XBLA passed three million sales today!" he wrote.
Upon launch on May 9, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition became profitable in just one hour, selling over 400,000 copies during its first 24 hours on sale, and breaking all previous Xbox Live arcade digital sales records. The game reached 1 million in sales in just five days, and recorded more unique users on Xbox Live than Call of Duty: Black Ops for the week of May 14.
Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition was developed by 4J Studios, the Scotland-based shop that built Xbox Live Arcade titles Perfect Dark, Banjo-Kazooie, and Banjo-Tooie. It retails for $20. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's review.

There is now a rumor that other Arcade titles have begun circulating a petition calling for Minecraft to stop "rubbing it in."
Good port, but they need to add more of it's PC features like farming and animal breeding.
1 Like As a PS3 player: Can we please get this ported for the PlayStation! As long as I can play with a few friends online and have the ability to save the ongoing world we'd be working on, I'll buy this the day that it drops on PSN. And I don't think I am alone in this wish either.
I was only kidding, but the only reasons I would want to play ps3 is for The Last of Us, Uncharted, and Killzone
@xoxStriker7xox I was 100% xbox like you. Then I bought a ps3 for the games I'd missed and all that changed.
@mediarays It is a sandbox game where you can do and build anything you want. It isn't for everyone and graphics don't mean shit when something is fun to play.
@Frosty192 15 years ago I might agree with you, but now....eh not so much. I couldn't stand looking at it for more than 10 minutes probably, regardless of how "fun" it may be. I also like my games to have a point.
5 Like It's the type of gameplay. It's supposed to be retro-old-school looking. You basically have the ability to completely recreate the world you are in alone or with friends. It's simply made to be "open-world" with resource collection option that allow you to biuld what ever you can think of from scratch. You actually mine resources and use them to create materials so you can build structures. And with a day night cycle, the night being filled with enemies that come for you, you have to make sure you are ready to camp out at night while you are working and keep yourself safe. It's just meant to be light-hearted fun. It's not always just about what "looks" the best. Gameplay is important too.
I used to be a minecraft hater until I gave it a second chance and started to play it and while I haven't found any diamonds (I am convinced they aren't on my world) I now love it and can barely put it down (just finished my sky-house)

Too bad the ppl who bought the 360 version are left with a vanilla exp, versus all the mods in the pc version... Oh well... their loss, not that i own the pc version, but i wouldn't buy a basic version of a game, when i could own a much better one...
@Jshaw71 Too bad the people who play the PC version can't chill out with their friends on the sofa and play split-screen.Xbox version is getting updated, we'll have the adventure update eventually and it'll have a lot more content then :)
2 Like @Jshaw71 I have the PC version and havent modded it in any way. To me it was all about having fun with my friends and thats it.
i see a lot of comparisons on here between the console versions and pc versions of games. me personally? i prefer playing my xbl versions because its just so easy to make friends and to interact with friends on xbl. i dont necessarily play the xb version because it might or might not be the superior version, i play it on my xb just so i can stay in touch with my xbl friends and communicate with them while im playing my favorite xb games.
you realize, due to its success. we'll probably start seeing minecraft clones galore trying to cash in on minecraft's success. there's already a dozen or more minecraft clones in the indie games section but i think we're about to see a surge in the world building/zombie killing genre on xbla.
I showed this game to my brother, and I was telling him how stupid it was, but then we started playing it, and we bought it that night.
I bought this game for Xbox 360, at first I did not want to, but I tried it out and I got hooked. Only buy this game if you have a real creative mind or else it will be boring.

I won't even download the demo because the whole thing goes against my principles. I don't support price-gauging on XBLA, and these 3 million people shouldn't either! This game is not worth $20. It's a $10 game, but apparently 3 million people don't care that they're being taken advantage of. Even the Android "pocket" version is $7. And before anyone says anything, I've seen plenty of the game in action at friends houses to determine it's a mediocre indie game.

I haven't even tried it. I downloaded the demo and tried it for about 15mins, before going back to playing the new Trials HD game.
This is what happens when 360 owners have nothing else to play. They content with mediocre games that can be played better on PC

@4dr1el there are plenty of XBLA exclusives and there are still plenty coming. In the other hand, MS's AAA titles are cut down to only Halo.

@xXxIRyanxXx what? Do you even know wtf you're talkin about? GoW is also a console game. I dont bash console games, I bash BAD console games (i.e. Halo). I'm a console gamer 1st and foremost.
@4dr1el You bash console games and pretty much every single one of those except GoW is on consoles, and Borderlands is only repetative if you dont have friends to play with.
@xXxIRyanxXx Actually I do have better games to buy than Halo 4 or Borderlands 2. The Last of Us, GoW:ascension, Hitman Absolution, MGRising revengeance, DmC, GTAV, Dishonored, and I can go on and on... ACIII is great too and way better series then Halo lol. And I do have better tastes then you. You liked Borderlands wich is one of the most repetitive games I've played this gen. What a waste of time
@4dr1el Try 18 and I hate COD, and COD sells more then Halo, but that doesn't make it better, and unless you have better games to buy than Halo 4, AC3 and Borderlands 2, which you dont, you dont have better taste than me.

Also, as much as I dont like COD, truth is its already a bigger franchise then Halo both sales and online players. Halo has its days counted. It only became famous cause it was somethin new at the time. Now is just plain mediocre
@4dr1el Apparently we have two different definitions of mediocre, because it is one of the greatest franchises of all time and if its mediocre, then you must play alot of mediocre games.
