i mentioned this when the game first came out on xbla awhile back but i have to say again, good to see an indie game out do many aaa titles on a home console.
Disc-based version of open-world creation game launching late next month in United States for $20.
A disc-based version of Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition will release at physical retailers in the United States April 30 for $20, the Microsoft-run PlayXBLA announced today. The game will include all the same features and content found in the Xbox Live version, as well as new additions to be introduced through upcoming title updates.
"The retail game will be exactly the same as the digital version in every way, including support for multiplayer connectivity between the retail game and the digital download," PlayXBLA explained. "And the retail disc version will receive all the same content and feature updates as the digital version ongoing."
Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition will release in Australia, Hong Kong, India, New Zealand, Singapore, and Taiwan in early June. No mention was made of a release in Europe or other territories.

I have never played Minecraft, but I'm glad to hear the news. Having a hard copy I can hold in my hands is my preference. Also, people can get access with no internet and you can play Minecraft on different consoles now.
I don't understand why everybody has to be so polar. Why can't we all just agree that we will never all agree on what games are good? Why must we hop on a comment board and say "This is trash!!!"? Why must other say "Everybody has to like the games that I like!!!"? We are individuals with different tastes. Pull some civility and reason back into our civilization.
inb4- Too late for the party, it seems.
I don't throw the word often, but there seems to be quite a bit of fanboys here. I've played Minecraft and it's nothing spectacular as what people make it out to be.
If anything, it's in a similar situation to Skyrim: Good for the first few times but you will probably end up modding it after some time. The little tweaks add up and eventually the original game feels terrible.
Also, a note to the ones who mention imagination: Most of the "imaginative" stuff I saw in Minecraft either required a mod or was in a similar situation to Godwin's law, which means it was just a matter of time and not imagination. It's better to just say you like a game and calmly disagree instead of throwing around logic-defying sentences.
Yeah, I personally love the game, but there is absolutely NO game that is going to appeal to every individual. As with anything, it's all a matter of opinion. I have played so many hours on this game that it rivals many other games I played the crap out of. But I certainly wouldn't belittle anybody for thinking it's not that fun. I hate people on both sides of any issue that just put their fingers in their ears and shout words. "This is trash!!!" "No! This game is the second coming of Christ!!!"I personally love the game. There are those it doesn't appeal to. Sadly, in any situation the loudest members of a group are often the most irrational and lack critical thinking.
Anything is possible is was too funny and still funny play with frends!.
A 1 million of mods still a real good reason!.
Can't possibly get any more "meh" than this. Wouldn't mind seeing other XBLA titles on retail, though.
This is great new for me,now i need 20$ instead of 70$ for the network adapter(my xbox's fat) and 1600 MS point to buy the game.
@DrKill09 Who would have thought, a game based on 8bit (or whatever, im too lazy to use google for his sake) textures would not look like crysis.
shocker, eh ?
@DrKill09 Sounds like somebody used to think the point of Lego was to shove them up his nose.
@DrKill09 Looks like someone has no imagination.
@DrKill09 Opinions are opinion. I'd say the numbers would think otherwise though. Also, it is most definitely a game.
this is a big gamble considering it have already sold 5mil copies, who do they expect to still buy it
@steelmouth People (probably younger children) who don't have internet and/or have people in the same house with another console. They could share the disc. If I buy this, I'll buy it on disc so my parents xbox can play it whenever. My nephew and even my sister would love to play it.
@steelmouth I'll probably buy it, I already have the downloaded game but I like physical discs.
@steelmouth People without internet on their Xbox's probably.
finally its about time they make a actual copy of the game, if they make minecraft for ps3 they better offer a actual copy for ps3 cause me personally i dont like buying digital downloads.
Disc-based games let you rent and resale the game. This is great for people like me who get bored of games really quick. I have many downloaded games and I wish I could sell 99% of them on Craigslist or Ebay. Examples: Section 8 Prejudice... Bionic Commando Rearmed...Wipeout HD... Battlefield 1942 PS3... I will probably wish I could sell off Okami HD after I'm done with that too.
dumb. whats the point exactly.
That being said if I could earn a 2nd set of achievements I would buy it! I need an excuse to keep playing. I got 100% in 50 hours... in the 1 week. that was a LONG time ago.
@inaka_rob The point is, people without Xbox live can get the game. And also, you could bring it to a friends house who didn't own it and play the game on their Xbox.
@Xplode_77 The second point you make is also a great reason.
That and there are still plenty of people without internet and places without high speed.
@inaka_rob 50hrs in one week? That's like 7hrs a day on one video game. . . . .
What's the point? Isn't this an online multiplayer game? Why make a physical disk unless there is a single player component?
@Suaron_x I rarely play this with other people
@Suaron_x There's singleplayer AND split-screen (on the same console) multiplayer. You don't need to be online to enjoy it.
@Suaron_x There is single-player too.
@Suaron_x Possibly because A it does have single player and B some people don't want live to get the game.
"See that horse there sonny? I want to beat it. With a stick. Yes i know it's dead but this is important business"
I have played the "game", and it is nowhere near as good as the hype it gets. At MOST, this sandbox app is worth $5.
@TJSpyke The game is only as good as your creativity and imagination. If you lack these two qualities then you will not like Minecraft. Stick to CoD and measure your epeen with the other macho men. :)
That comment is a bit over reaching. I personally love the game, but I also understand that not everybody is going to like the same things. It has nothing to do with being "macho" or being uncreative. It's simply a matter of taste.
@SlayerX13 I do have plenty of imagination, Notch doesnt since he wants players to do all the actual work. And the app is just boring and tedious to actually get any fun out of it.
While I wouldn't argue that anybody has a lack of imagination just for not liking the game, this argument that you are meant to build the game makes no sense. Yes, you do what you want in the world and create what you want, but the game is definitely built. I'm not saying you have to like it. I just see some flaws in that particular argument like it's a fact. You are free to say it's boring and that you don't understand how people can enjoy it. These are opinions, and everybody has them.
@TJSpyke Pfft, yeah. An indie game that sells over 20 million units with zero advertising must be over hyped.
@TJSpyke @stealth6spy Actually they haven't dropped a dime on marketing, relying completely on word of mouth, at least as far as I and every website I checked are aware. Also I would really like to see what your source is that claims most people buy multiple copies as I find that very hard to believe is the reason they reached 20 million sales.
@TJSpyke The world and my self. disagree with you. I put 60 hours into that game in 7 days. Everyone is entitled to their opionon. I think GTA4 was crap compared to the other GTA games. I think FF13 and games like Bayonata and RE6 are true gaming garbage. Many would disagree with me. But you are talking about a game that people have put more time online than COD Black Ops. that is simply amazing!
I tried it also and didn't care too much for it. I prefer devs to make games for me, not for me to have to make the game myself. Whatever, we all like stupid crap.
