Minecraft PC to receive largest patch in months with 1.3

August 1 release will unify single- and multiplayer engines, add trading with NPCs, trip wires for traps.
Minecraft's PC version will receive one of its most significant overhauls since release with its 1.3 patch on August 1, according to the Mojang blog. The first-person exploration and creation game will receive several optimizations as well as new features to enhance its randomly generated worlds and their mining masses.
Mojang stated that the most significant change will be the re-implementation of Minecraft's single-player mode as a shell on top of its multiplayer, unifying any future bug fixes or mods. The game will also receive a currency system for trading with non-player character villagers in the form of emeralds, and trip wires for the creation of more intricate traps and mechanisms. New players will also be able to start with "bonus chests" to ease their first few hours in their worlds. Full patch notes are available on this Reddit-user-compiled thread.
Single-player performance is expected to suffer slightly for lower-end PCs as Mojang works to optimize performance for both simulating and emulating the world. It is not known when or if the changes made in 1.3 will be seen in Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition.

I cant wait for 1.3, I would already be playing with the new features if I knew how to install snapshots.

1) Go to the official forum (the following link points to the currently latest release post) : http://www.minecraftforum.net/news/544-snapshot-27a-13-news/
2) Click on the "Client" download and save the "minecraft.jar" somewhere on your disk
3) Open Windows Explorer and in the address bar type "%appdata%"
4) Open the ".minecraft" folder
5) (OPTIONAL) Copy the "minecraft.jar" and the "saves" folder to a Backup location (in case something goes wrong, you can restore your precious world save and version)
6) Copy the "minecraft.jar" you downloaded into the "%appdata"\.minecraft" folder and overwrite the existing "minecraft.jar" there
7) Start the game as usual, in the lower left it should say "12W27A" now
8) Enjoy the prerelease version's new features
As for all prerelease versions, mod compatibility is not given unless the mod creator released a version compatible to the new minecraft version.
As the obfuscator that "shuffles" the code segments around in the .jar does this at random, it's often a tedious work to update mods to new versions (until an official modding API is released - assumed to be in 1.4 then)
If something doesn't work out, copy the backup from step 5 back or ask on the forum for further help.
Wow, that's quite a list of changes. I might actually re-install this game and mess around in it again.
6 Like The "vanilla" Minecraft is still nowhere near a status I'd call feature complete, though it's slowly getting there and I hope development is continued for years to come.
With mods from the community (Buildcraft, Industrialcraft, MoCreatures, etc.) it's however (for me at least) a better, more interesting experience.
This is why allowing your community to add mods to your game and allowing them to run their own servers is a very good idea and adds to the longevity of your product.
The "big studios" should all learn from this good example.

does this mean multiplayer is actually playable now? or do i still have to restrict myself to a tiny area so i don't generate too much of the world, thus causing unbearable lag?
1 Like @HAZCHEM88 it would be, if i hadn't seen this error reported multiple times on the forums, and is even an aknowledged issue by the devs. that, and the fact that it only happens on multiplayer, and happens with every one of my friends.

No, this should not be in the patch. Goddammit why does every dev cater to casuals. Everyone needs to look at what the DayZ dev is doing with their game and realize that there's no shame in making a game super hardcore.
4 Like @AuronAXE You're... not right in the head. I'd agree with you if this is an option that people have for multiplayer... but it's single player. That's like complaining that a new game you bought comes with 'Easy' in addition to normal, hard, etc. Don't like the feature? Don't use it. If someone else's single player experience is easier than yours... what do you care?
The DayZ comparison is just dumb. DayZ is multiplayer only. A feature like that would directly affect you even if you're not using it. A single player feature has nothing to do with you if you're not going to use it.
6 Like @AuronAXE Uhh, you do realize that the chest is an OPTION that can be turned off on on when making a new world, right?

1 Like @BTDM The chest being an option doesn't excuse anything. Just having the option there means the developers are catering to casuals. Casuals should have to suffer and cry their way through their first few days in Minecraft, just like everyone else. That's how we all get better. Adding wussy options is only going to promote the entitlement mentality that is preventing modern gamers from really getting into the games they play.
That was all sarcasm, by the way. Didn't mean a word of it.
@AuronAXE oh boohoo some people are gonna get some stuff that might make there experience better but has no effect on me cause I can ignore them better start complaining about that then.
1 Like @AuronAXE I agree! Once you learn the mechanics of the game, it's a piece of cake. The only difficulty I have is when I play on hardcore mode and I do something stupid like accidentally fall into lava with no water bucket in my quick-slot bar. No bonus chest is going to save me from doing something idiotic.
They need to hurry up and improve the Xbox 360 versions and make the worlds bigger. They will do better on the console vs pc users. Just look at how many records the xbox version broke and compare them to the amount pc had. Dont waste all the money you made from the xbox version on the pc version.

I thought that a different company was handling MCX360(4J Studios)
So really, work on the 360 version doesn't affect the PC version.
I'm a bit upset that 4J Studios is taking their sweet time making the updates too(we don't even have sprint on the 360 version, so I keep double tapping the left analog for no reason -_-)...
@KotomineKirei Oh lol I wasn't trying to excuse it, I was merely expressing my joy at the fact that the PC updates are still coming at a reasonable rate. Oh and btw when I was complaining about the 360 version, I thought you were one of those people who think that the only way to game is on a console. Now that I know that you're not an idiot, I think I'll put a little more effort into my complaining :)
@xXl_z3r0_lXx That's still no excuse for updates that take centuries to release(yet still have bugs)...
Also, I have the PC version, but I got the 360 version so I can play with people on my Friendslist that don't have a PC or one capable of running MC on PC(also my PC doesn't run it too well at times either :P)
@KotomineKirei I'm just glad it's someone else, If Mojang were working on both, it would be a LOOOONG time before we saw patches for wither one of them. BTW this isn't a console-versus-PC-version-anything you get the 360 version only if your computer can't handle it. It was obvious from the beginning that the PC version is, and will always, be better than the 360 version.
@XIntoTheBlue @GhostHero333 The money that xbox made should be rightfully used for those that shelled it out. You are just trying to use that money for your version. Whos being selfish now.
