Version 1.8 of open-ended PC game introduces randomly generated dungeons, new creatures, sprinting, critical attacks, and more.
Gamers now have more ways than ever to lose themselves in Mojang's indie gaming phenomenon Minecraft. The developer today launched version 1.8 of the game, "The Adventure Update," with an array of requested and anticipated new features.
Among the changes found in the patch notes are randomly generated houses, ravines, and dungeons, experience orb drops from monsters, silverfish, cave spiders, Endermen mobs, critical hits, and sprinting. Also, pigs have snouts now.
Minecraft--still in beta--has been in development since 2009. However, that unfinished state hasn't prevented the game from garnering acclaims, such as claiming the Seumas McNally Grand Prize at the 2011 Game Developers Conference Indie Fest.
Currently available only on the PC and Mac, Minecraft is headed to the Xbox 360 this winter with Kinect support via 4J Studios. That company was responsible for the Xbox Live Arcade games Perfect Dark, Banjo-Kazooie, and Banjo-Tooie. Minecraft is also scheduled to arrive on mobile devices. It has also spawned its own convention, MineCon, set to take place in Las Vegas November 18-19 and timed to match the game's official release.
I want to give the guy who answered the speakers question with "Because it's awesome" a medal. HE DESERVES ONE.
Yay 6 people thumbed me down even though the guy is talking about Open Source in his presentation and the Minecraft developers are huge Open Source fans. But what do I expect I'm on Gamespot they don't expect their users to understand or appreciate Linux for the innovation and independence it brings to the individual and the community instead of leaving it everything in the hands of corporations. And of course they're right.
LOL what is that noise he keeps making seriously. I've held talks before and cant understand how he is doing it XD its as if he is clcking his tongue off the top of his mouth after each sentence ^^
Smacking sound --> "Um" --> Sentence. Smacking sound --> "Um" --> Sentence. Smacking sound --> "Um" --> Sentence.
This guy REALLY needs to know, he is not a good speaker. The sucking on his lip at the end of his sentences, and horribly repetitious uhms, are beyond bad. I could not finish this vid. The moron who burnt his house down is appropriate though. That's as far as I could tolerate.
@jasonzilla11 you have to either start a new world, or explore your existing one further in order to find the new features. The 1.8 geographical things (like strongholds and villages) don't spawn in the existing chunks of pre-1.8 maps.
Lets play a game! How many "ums" can you count during that douche's speech? Umm, um, um, um......a bajillion??
Towns don't have NPCs yet. What I'm wondering is, if you make a new world with 1.8, will NPCs appear in the towns when 1.9 hits?
I look forward to the next update. I have to admit though, having a hunger bar kind of sucks - I have to leave my mine and go hunt animals, which is a pain.
I love the new update, but I can't find any villages or dungeons! Oh well, the rest is still awesome.
@Atheno Hahahahahaha! I was like what does he.... Ohhhhhhh. Public speaking doesn't work for everyone, he's an example of what not to do.
The additions sound welcomed. I am thinking of trying the 360 version of the game, since the PC version seems to do a number on my laptop.
what is with that...smacking sound. I mean I know it's about Minecraft and this is about 1.8 and stuff but..that..smack..smack..smack after he says something. Oh well. Awesome update for minecraft!
It's a great update and well worth the wait. Looking forward to 1.9 and it's features, lets hope it wont be too long :P
The endermen currently are annoying in that they pick up blocks from my perimeter wall, moving them around or just dissapearing with them in hands. The wall is 3 blocks thick but i still feel insecure.
Couldn't think of a better developer to trust with this game, 4J did a wonderful job modifying the Banjo series to work on the Xbox 360.
with all other games now a days being either skyrim (with i love) or a fps i see an innovative game as minecraft reach the 5million milestone before 2012
How many times does he say "like" in this presentation? I'm like, going to school for my PHD at SoCal which is like, totally awesome!
