Microsoft 'insider' responds to PS4 - Report

Unnamed source says "victory will go not to those who make the most noise, but those who make the most impact."
A "Microsoft insider" speaking to CVG has responded to Sony's next-generation tease. This unnamed person said future platform supremacy will be awarded to the company with the most substance, not the most flash.
"Victory will go not to those who make the most noise, but those who make the most impact," this person said.
In addition, a Sony insider told the site that the company is not focusing on outperforming the Xbox 720 in terms of raw power. Previous reports suggested the PS4 and Xbox 720 would be feature the same graphics card.
"The war won't be won by producing the most powerful system," the person said.
Sony last night invited gamers to "see the future" of the PlayStation brand on February 20 at 6 p.m. EDT. The company will hold an event in New York City that evening where the PlayStation 4 is to be revealed, if a report from The Wall Street Journal proves accurate.

kinect and siri like crap isn't substance, it's flash. focus on a gaming console with more exclusive titles.

They will make a lot noise too because they have money, but for me the winner will the one who listen to the gamers and makes the best games.
Sounds like they didn't want to answer the question in the first place but got harassed into doing it.
In case that MS dude didn't know....noise DOES lead to impact. Noise leads to hearsay. Hearsay leads to hype. Hype leads to sales (unfortunately). Anyway, news which is based on what an 'insider' says will normally be followed by some secretive information. This is nothing more than ramblings of someone who is obviously getting very defensive. It might as well have been Microsoft's office janitor.

@jenovaschilld .... may I ask what are you waiting for??? games are still coming out now, and when the next generation they will continue to come out. So what do you expect will be different next gen?? Better graphics yes but it will be the same. What I mean is GTA3 to GTA4 there was some change but not a big one mostly better graphics and now with GTA5 coming to this gen and next gen what will be the difference. and when GTA6 launches what will be the difference?? COD 35 on next gen will be the same game mechanics/ gameplay, the improvements over the last 3 generations have been less and less each gen Xbox to Xbox 360 And I think to the next Xbox or PS1 to PS3 and I fell to PS4 the changes are less and less.
To many times its our idealism or belief how the games will be how we imagine them to be. But after the initial euphoria has subsided, reality will hit that these are the same games, and not much has changed.
@Ravenlore_basic @jenovaschilld Actually 'let the games begin' was more in reference to game companies warring rhetoric we see each new console generation. As the months dwindle down to the release of 8th gen systems the console makers will snipe at each other and this is also the time when they begin cutting prices and doing everything they can to entice new owners onto their system and not others.
As for what will be different?, well having been old enough to see 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th and now 8th gen systems come out - I have been fortunate to see that every new generation of consoles brings on change - no matter the power of the machine, no matter what others think is the brink of what games can do or be. New consoles is more like an injection of creativity just because all the rules are now different, what could not be done on one console now can, options you didn't have before are now presented and even things developers were not looking even looking for.
New franchises usually get their start with the next gen consoles, and sadly old ones sometimes die. But the gamer will always win, reaping the rewards of low cost entertainment and seeing a new media take its art to a new level. I already know what the new games will be like, they will be different and the same. And somewhere out there will be a game I didn't even see coming.

@swamptick IF next gen you see the same games GTA5, Halo5, GT6, Killzone4, GOW: stab and slice, COD, Bio-shock, MOH, BF, ... ETC ... then what will it be worth it? will you still be excited.

1 Like @MatrixGamer78 that's not really Sony's fault now is it, if GameSpot focuses on Sony, and chooses to seperate news into multiple articles, that's their decission. There's blogs out there focused on individual brands, they have more than 4-5 articles a DAY!
1 Like It sounds like Sony is going to produce a console just slightly more powerful than the PS3. More along the lines of the Wii U.
@StarkJJ They BOTH are!! Sony and Microsoft are coming out with 1080P @60fps consoles which in and of itself will consume a lot of power in conjunction with better graphics and the ability to use Kinect and move. THAT IS about it. for around $400.00 price tag there is not much more that they can put power to.
@StarkJJ Thats what I'm thinking, especially if there are games on current gen that are also going to be ported into next gen. Is it going to look slightly better than current?

2 Like @PDXmauler97true thats why just now pc games are pushing the new engines pc has been running unreal engine 3 for the last 8 years and right at the moment new consoles roll around thats when the pc gets unreal engin 4 also just two games on pc run frost bite engine 2 and zero run unreal 4 .... on xbox 720 and ps4 im sure 95% of the games will run on a next gen engine this is called standards the pc should have some ..... if pc has no standards then i see no reason in getting a $2000 $1200 etc pc so i can play a game with a 8 year old engine at 60fps or 10000000 fps whatever its still a last gen engine thats what i call a joke

good question but that term is a dinosaur now, now third parties manufacture the components put inside of consoles. it's more of a definition for the set of gamers, rather than the hardware itself.

@PDXmauler97 I would say:A piece of hardware made from a manufacturer which focuses on playing games.Easy to handle,requires almost no technical knowledge,standard hardware,connect with everyhomes livingroom tv's(except vectrex i guess).
Sure,todays consoles differ from those consoles 25 years ago up to 7 years ago since they offer downloads(i am mixed feelings about this->more buggy games at release),access to web,music and tv-services but honestly said,i never wished those things and never asked for them.
