Microsoft considering major restructuring - Report

Sources say technology giant to reorganize with focus on devices and services; Xbox boss Don Mattrick could see duties expanded.
Microsoft is currently considering a major restructuring effort that will see the technology giant double down on devices and services, sources have told The Wall Street Journal's AllThingsD.
The sources said details pertaining to the rumored organizational shift are still being discussed and "could change substantially." However, noted Windows blogger Paul Thurrott also believes this rumor to be true.
As part of the new organizational structure, several current executives could reportedly move into "more prominent" roles, including current Xbox boss Don Mattrick.
It was not mentioned how Mattrick's duties would be expanded or how the potential changes could affect his day-to-date duties of running Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment business.
The rumored organizational shift, in addition to solidifying Microsoft as a devices and services business, aims to simplify the company's management. AllThingsD described Microsoft's set-up as "convoluted."
How Microsoft's marquee product, Windows, fits into the possible reorganization is unclear.
Microsoft recently announced its next-generation console, the Xbox One. The company believes that the system's entertainment capabilities will help it--along with other future generation consoles--reach record industry sales.

4 Like Did anyone else yawn while reading this? I just couldn't stop myself from doing so.
Windows 8 is so bad that I sometimes put my oily finger on my Not touch screen Monitor, because navigating with your mouse sucks. What were they thinking? Did they think that my monitor will turn into touch screen so I can watch my blu ray or play games with fingerprints all over my monitor. PC is not a tablet. Anyways this is kind off topic but shit.
whenever I think of MS I always want to start chanting USA! USA! USA! MS is the embodiment of the american way. If we're wrong (like MS was with X1, W8, W Phone etc. etc.) we keep doing the wrong thing until it becomes the right thing. It would be very funny if it wasn't so true lol

Lets see, going by the title "Microsoft considering major restructuring". Keyword "Considering", so i take it that depending on the success (launch) of the Xbox One we could see a shake up of Company Structure Wise..
I think Microsoft has lost focus as they are dipping there hands in every form of entrainment.. The Xbox (BRAND) has gotten too big to be just about games, they are gambling that no what, gamers won't go from you got compelling games to offer..
just freaking great this basicly means they're going to try and emulate apple instead of consentraiting on what people actually buy microsoft products for.

6 Like @COPMAN221ISBACK Actually Sony fanboys are the most nonsensical. Remember at E3 2005 how they all bought that Killzone 2 and Motorstorm pre-rendered crap? And some PS3 fanboys still swear up and down that the PS3 is a supercomputer and the CELL processor is better than anything PC gamers have at their disposal. I've yet to hear of worse fanboyism than from the Sony fan-camp.

It seems like Microsoft is trying to create excitement in a way that Sony did with their shareholders. Since they are planning on having a studio that creates episodic content for broadcast, it seems like a good move.

They're still coming on here spouting the same ignorant bullshit about drm/no used games/always on when Microsoft has already specifically and officially addressed those concerns as being false and confirmed that there are no used game fees or activation fees and that the console does not require a constant internet connection.

@cirugo @Grenadeh The funny thing was most of the information coming from the internet were things that were made up to begin with. Why should Microsoft have to answer to rumors when they never stated these things to begin with? There could have been a rumor that the Xbox One causes herpes and I'll bet that someone would have believed it. They showed the Box, they announced features that they believe are cool and that people would want along with playing games. Do you really think that they want this to fail?

People were expecting them to quash rumors since way before the reveal, and they didn't deliver.
@hobotech64 @Grenadeh Dancing ? Really they said they will reveal more at a future date. "cough" E3" or is listening not a strong point of yours ? Some of their statements may be unclear but, they don't have to be clear about anything ATM. When E3 arrives I am sure all these questions will be answered.
@sammoth I don't expect all these questions will be answered during E3, they had the chance already during the reveal. More likely they will stay hush-hush on the used games issue, since they know the public hates it. Only way to really know for sure is during release time.
Simply put: I, as well as many other gamers, have lost trust in Microsoft.

Like you, I know that most of the issues people are concerned with are basically non-issues. MS has already addressed most of them, and plans to fully address all concerns at E3.
There are some people who simply missed a few stories. They are so spread out and fly under the radar for people who arent adamently following Xbox news.
And then, yes, your right, there are those that we all know are well aware of what MS has said, and choose not to believe andor to ignore MS in favour of lambasting the Xbox One. These are the people who made up their minds long ago, and the people I don't consider gamers.
Because, lets face it, wh haven't even seen the games yet, and that's really what this whole thing is supposed to be about... right? Noone who is truely a gamer would hate on an unreleased game-console without seriously due cause.
Given that rumors, speculation, and industry chatter are never due cause, we can safely say these people are more troll then gamer. And should be thusly ignored.
5 Like @malokevi Once again, you're entirely wrong. Microsoft has not addressed gamer concerns beyond announcing them in the first place and then in the face of the uproar fell back on cop outs like: "we're rounding up answers" "Its all rumors" "wait for E3"
The fact of the matter is; at this point its not about games anymore, their bravado regarding their games line up is a bait and switch to keep people's attention off of how bad the console is turning out to be. Our attention must remain on the console and the features that they continue to be uninterested in addressing. All the best games are going to be multiplatform anyway.
Given the rumors, speculation and industry chatter, you'd think Microsoft would actually be putting some effort into putting things to rest, so that we could focus on games. Instead they choose to remain coy and elusive.
I don't think asking Microsoft for a little bit of honesty is too much to ask.
Then you will be all set. For the rest of us gamers the PS4 will most likely be perfect. To each his own.

Besides, Id be willing to bet that most of the stuff you hate, I either love or dont care about. (using the internet, used games, awesome UI, Kinect, dashboard features, game installs. )
Not one thing that doesnt sound good to me. Im always online, I buy my games, I dont care about physical copies, and Kinect looks awesome.
So, again, feel free to dwell on everything you hate, but dont pretend to speak for everyone.
16 Like @Grenadeh Microsoft made a bunch of statements, people freaked out, and then all they said was not all the rumors are true, and we'll clear things up later (i.e. after we figure out how much we can spin and still get away with).
Microsoft has not provided official specific details on most of the things people are concerned about. Our concerns have most certainly not been addressed.
There are no used game fees, because there are no used games. They already stated you must pay full price for a "new" license, and that all licenses are new. I haven't seen them retract that yet. They also said you can only trade in licenses to them or people they authorize. I.e. you cannot sell or trade games with friends.
They also stated that the console effectively only works with an internet connection. It is meant to be online, and must be online at least once every 24 hours. In effect, it is "always online". It will not work if you don't have an internet connection (i.e. for soldiers over seas).
I have yet to see anything SPECIFIC from them that addresses my concerns in the slightest. Have I missed an official statement on how everything is actually going to work?

i'm sorry but this whole statement feels like it could get them a kick in the balls. if they don't trust us with the games then why the hell should be buy the console? if you buy a game it's yours so it shouldn't F$*@)ing matter what happens to the game.
5 Like @Grenadeh Constant always on is not true. Always one as a check within a unnamed time frame is true. Single player games using online features that require them to be always on is true.
No used game fees has been denied. Limiting used games to specific retailers and adding the fee on that side (which will trickle down) is not confirmed. Blocking used games not sold from their known re-sellers is not confirmed.
