Look I truly love metro 2033 its freaking amazing. Ive played it in every difyculty in every language available. But thats just the thing its a great SP game but like all SP games you play it and get all the achievements (if youre a guy like me) and learn every dang secrete and every dang easter egg and every dang way to get all the stuff and after that the game is just well a bit boring. im not saying metro sucks for me now cause trust me its not the case but its no longer the same. I didnt want a competetive multiplayer cause ive got enough of those but i wanted a cooperative one. imagine playing with ur buddies as rangers doing certain missions that save the whole metro from some catastrophy in every mission and theyre really challenging so you need to play as a team. and a survival mode in which you play as military guards defending the station from waves of monsters or defending a trade check point or communications line ( you get the point by now). i just think it would make the game much more longer and hells alot more fun. I know most of you will disagree but before you judge my opinion think about those coop modes.
4A Games' upcoming shooter drops competitive multiplayer component; company says it was only in prototype form and could release as DLC.
Metro: Last Light will not ship with a competitive multiplayer component, as had been originally planned, developer 4A Games explained on its website. A representative from the company revealed that multiplayer for Metro: Last Light never much of a focus for the studio anyway.
"We never dedicated too many resources to the MP component beyond prototyping; it never entered full production," reads a line from the statement. "By making the decision when we did, we think the single player campaign will benefit as a result."
The statement goes on to say that it was "probably a mistake" to have announced the multiplayer component in the first place. However, just because multiplayer will not ship with Metro: Last Light, the possibility was left open for it to arrive later.
"Right now we’re 100 percent focused on the single-player campaign and not thinking beyond that," the statement explains. "We don’t like throwing away work though. [Metro: Last Light multiplayer is] a project we could potentially return to after Metro: Last Lightships."
Lastly, the developer confirmed that this news will not affect the release of Metro: Last Light, which is slated for sometime during early 2013 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. For more on Metro: Last Light, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
Ah, slightly disappointing, but hey, if they want to focus on SP, more power too them.I do hope they put in multiplayer at a later point, if possible.
Now can you imagine how much place and resources this will leave to polishing the campaign? Now I want this game more than ever!

FPS games should not have Multiplayer IMO. It is easy to get bored and repetive. The developers should invest in Co-op elements and make games that make gamers think teamwork is always a good idea (very educational, eh?). Also, a strong story line is the best. Don't do good gameplay but predictable and forgettable one.
@Master_cheat001 Apparently you do not play FPS's at a competitive level. Nothing about FPS's multiplayer gets boring when you are playing on teams in tournaments.
Nobody likes tacked on multiplayer. Every gamer acknowledges that multiplayer is way too often a feature they shoehorn in desperately attempting to create replay value for story-driven single player campaign game. You won't hear anyone complaining about a game like this lacking a multiplayer component. There will only be praise for dropping it.
So that begs the question, why don't more companies do this? If you're designing a single player campaign game, tell the press you had been designing a multiplayer component that was cut from the final product. There's no downside to it. Even people who don't care about your game will like you more for it.
You know what I am happy with this news and I think that at the back of the box 4A games should write the words " No shoehorn MP mode in this game"
Hmmm... This game just got interesting. A developer that says no to tacked on MP at the cost of SP is a rare and beautiful thing IMO.
I have no idea if this game will be good or not, but I am pretty sure it won't be massively popular. So maybe when a more played game takes out multiplayer someone will notice and we won't be hit with it for every damn game. I know this is a fantasy that will not happen any time soon.
Fine with me, I'd only be playing single player anyway. I will not be changing my pre-order because of this :)
Would prob be an interesting setting and of course atmosphere for MP but I too care much more about the SP. If 4A does end up releasing a MP DLC, I would prob only be on board if it were free or a minimal charge.
It's a shame that some of the development time has already been wasted but it's good to hear that they have come to their senses.
Good, Metro 2033 was one of the most underrated shooters last year and one of the few that truly stayed to form rather than pandering to multiplayer addicted casual gamers.
Story and interesting gameplay over repetitive grindy multiplayer any day of the week for me personally.
what a crock...they just wanna sell MP like rockstar did with max payne 3.

Metro 2033 was one of the best single player FPS I have played in awhile that did not have any kind of RPG element attached. I'm glad to see that 4A decided that were gonna keep it that way with the next installment. Its refreshing to see a game that does not have an obviously tacked on multiplayer mode in order to please a market that never played the first game. I will buy this I just hope its a little longer than Metro 2033.
It's unfortunate, but they have to do what they have to do.

4A Games, you take out that Multiplayer you go out and make the best single-player campaign you possibly can (Like 2K with Bioshock)

Zelda has no multiplayer. Some of the best games in history are single player only. Give me a break CoD/Halo fans... Not every game needs an online MP.
Metro 2033 had an awesome single player campaign and personally, this is what is drawing me to the sequel in the first place. I hate the notion that's being espoused by so many publishers that every game must have a multiplayer component to be successful. I'd rather they focus their resources on making a single player campaign that's awesome, than have a sp campaign that's average and a multiplayer option that would likely be outshone by the plethora of online multiplayer shooters already available anyway. In terms of replayability, if a storied campaign is well executed, multiplayer isn't even necessary. I replayed Metro 2033 at least 4-5 times and enjoyed every play-through, discovering new secrets each time. Cheers.
@JudgeSim I'm actually gonna not trash this guy for saying that. Metro was a good game, but I didn't play through it more than once. Same with Bioshock 1 & 2. Multiplayer (when done well) CAN be a boon. It DOES add replayability for many people. Nothing wrong with that.
personally speaking, I bought the first game day one and I beat it 4 times. Plenty of replay value if you love the game.

@JudgeSim The sign of a great game is when you actually want to go back and replay it; every so often, I bust out Ninja Gaiden I because it was THAT awesome (I think I'm at 5 or 6 playthroughs...), and it doesn't have a second of multiplayer. As far as I'm concerned, by adding multiplayer to everything, it allows designers to cheap out on the rest of the game.

@JudgeSim How is there no replay value? You play a game to enjoy it, not to burn through and go "THERE, FINISHED!" If you enjoyed it you play it again.
Multiplayer is just shooting people on the same maps, with the same guns over and over, but that apparently is worth more replay value.
