E3 2011: Konami releasing Sons of Liberty, Snake Eater, Peace Walker in one console package in November; updated ZOE duo coming in 2012; Transfarring announced.
HD remakes have been all the rage with veteran publishers looking to exploit their back catalogs of late, and Konami is no exception. In addition to its Silent Hill HD update, Konami said today as part of its pre-Electronic Entertainment Expo press conference that it is planning similar treatments for a handful of titles that fall in Kojima Productions' Metal Gear Solid and Zone of the Enders franchises.
Konami will release the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection and the Zone of the Enders HD Collection not just for the PlayStation 3. A first for both the Metal Gear and Zone of the Enders franchises, the two HD Collections will also be released for the Xbox 360.
The MGS HD Collection, which is due this November, will include high-definition updates for Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and the highly regarded recent PSP release, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Both the original and second Zone of the Enders will be packaged into one box for its HD Collection release, which is currently slated for 2012.
Konami emphasized that both HD remakes are more than just emulator-based updates. The games are being "optimized and rebuilt" for the PS3 and Xbox 360, with a new user interface customized for HD resolutions. Konami has also redrawn the games' 2D art, effects, and fonts; improved audio quality; and included trophies and achievements. Force feedback and right analog stick functionality have also been added.
The HD updates pave the way for Konami's latest game-transferring initiative, which Konami vice president Hideo Kojima has dubbed "Transfarring." Currently compatible with PS3 and PSP titles, Transfarring operates much like Sony's recently announced PSP Remaster program, where consumers can wirelessly transfer their save files between the PS3 and PSP versions of a game.
The first game to take advantage of this initiative will be the HD Collection version of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for the PS3. However, Kojima hopes to expand this program by bringing the Transfarring functionality to PlayStation 2 games, whereby saves are mobile to and from the PS3 and NGP. The final evolution of this system, according to Kojima, is to create all-new games for the PS3 and NGP that make use of Transfarring.
you stupid ass KONAMI, do more than HD up-scaling, blurry textures and huge polygons. at least use new graphic engines and show as better lighting effects and shadows.
why did they let Mr. Shinkawa's subbed voice likened to the voice subs in the Kung-Pow movie? (the one who said "He's alive Betty! He's alive Betty!)
These are probably running on the same game engine as the original versions, just with updated graphics and such. MGS 1 would need a new engine to remake it in HD. Also the original MGS is on psn.
Something its not right in here, the idea its great but where is ¿MGS1 HD? like other guy said, you could include even MGS twin snake, if you dont want to remake it.
Why couldn't they include MGS 2 Substance and MGS 3 Subsistence (complete with online) instead? Something tells me Peace Walker won't include multiplayer.
So I take it we won't see MGS: Rising until 2012?? Still, pretty awesome to have those games remade.
This is going to kick ass. Haven't played an MGS game since forever... one of the drawbacks of only owning a 360.
I think this re-make thing is the new business....I think we have to wait little to see MG4 in 360 in the same way we now see Mass Effect 2 in Ps3......the problem is I am still waiting for Crysis(PC) :-(
Lucky day for those who are collectors, In my opinion MG sons of liberty is better than snake eater. However, it is good that we are gonna have the chance to play Peace Walker( I don't have a Psp).....but the very Best is still MGS: guns of the patriots...well maybe for now cus MG: Rising looks sick(crazy, insane....so F#$%@ Awesome)
@masterds64 Yes, they do have the original MGS1 on the PSN. However, I want a physical copy of the game included with the HD collection. The problem with digital mediums is that they are not indefinitely supported. What happens when your PS3 crashes and the PSN is down? What happens when you lose everything on your harddrive and PS4 is the only format Sony is supporting? This is why I want the game on a physical disc. Like I said, just include the PSN MGS1 game on the HD bluray and I am extremely satisfied. ***NO VOUCHER THOUGH
what konami was thinking ?not including the original metal gear and silent hill in the hd remakes? these games are still here because of the original, doesn't make any sense to me.just plain stupid big mistake konami !!! mgs $ sh -still one of my favorite games,if you never played the series you should start from the beginning !(not the second)
Why not the original Metal Gear Solid from PSone? I never played it. only 2 and 3(which I never bothered to beat). I would love to play this from the beginning (Yes, i know, other Metal Gear Games for even older consoles. whatever). So seriously? why start with 2? Do they love Raiden that much?
Great news. Snake Eater was one of the best games ever created. Can't wait to play it again for 360.
@snake1mi Uh, 360 & PS3 controllers have the same buttons. I enjoy the weightlessness of PS3's, and the curvation and solidness of 360's. Multi-platform = good for everyone.
Even though I already played through MGS 4 on a friends PS3, I would like to see it port to the 360 too... I don't care if they multi-disk it, I just don't have a need to own multiple systems and don't have much reason to buy a ps3.
@Bruchko7 There is mgs1 already on the psn, and they done a remake of it with features and abilities/graphics from mgs2 called "twin snakes", a gamecube release only though, one which I enjoyed quite well :)
I'm very disappointed to see MGS1 left out of the collection. Konami, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE...just include the MGS1 game from the Essential Collection on the bluray disc. After what happened to the PSN, I have no confidence in relying on a digital download for a futureproof MGS collection. All I want is the 16:9 version from the essential collection included on the disc. No remastering necessary! If you include MGS1 on the disc (and not just a PSN voucher), this will be a Pre-Order from me! Thanks for listening Konami reps!
Terrific news !! I was dreaming for this to happend !! and Kojima was listening :) . Metal Gear Solid franchise is The Best Games EVER !! No game even came close !! I would love to play all the games in HD over and over again.
Seems like without the first metal gear I'm a little at odds with any reason to buy a 'collection'. I mean minor HD upgrades never tempt me to rebuy games unless I've lost them or never had them.
This is great news. Although it would have been nice if they would have also included the first Metal Gear Solid. I know there's a lot of people that refuse to play any series if they haven't played the original. If Konami would offer all the Metal Gear Solid games in one package, it would only help them sell more units of the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 5.
ummmm. wheres ZOE 3 and 4..... damn it Konami A remake is cool and awsome but come on, they wait this late to do a remake of ZOE when there could have been a remake like 4 yrs. ago and instead of just now announcing a remake anounce a new game...@$$%$%%$!%^^#%@!^&&**!!!!!!!!!! what are we gonna do with these big companies?
