Premium edition of Rockstar's latest action game packs in 10-inch-tall statue, bullet keychain, extra multiplayer characters and weapon; preorders close January 15.
Gamers looking to get the maximum Max Payne 3 experience have a new premium-priced bundle to consider. Rockstar Games today announced a $100 Max Payne 3 Special Edition set to launch alongside the standard versions of the game on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in March.
Available for preorder until January 15, the Max Payne 3 Special Edition features a 10-inch-tall statue of Max, depicting the tormented protagonist in a sharp gray suit and packing a pair of handguns. The bundle will also include a bullet keychain with a screw-off back, art prints, the soundtrack, in-game weapons, and "classic" multiplayer characters from previous games in the series.
Max Payne 3 is in the works at Rockstar Games' Vancouver studio, which took over series duties from Finnish shop Remedy (Alan Wake). The game will catch up with the now-former cop, who has spent the time since Max Payne 2 running from his troubled past. That has led him to Sao Paulo, Brazil, where he works as a private bodyguard for a wealthy family.
Payne will fulfill his duties with a healthy helping of the series' signature bullet-time gameplay mechanic, in which the player slows the world to a crawl, and Max acrobatically leaps into action, firing twin pistols at anyone in range. That's not the only way to play, as Rockstar is supplementing that approach with a variety of weaponry and a cover system.
Rockstar is also incorporating multiplayer into the series for the first time with Max Payne 3. The publisher has said it will feature "traditional" multiplayer game modes with full-featured support for character progression, clans, and loadout options.

I forget how, but F.E.A.R had bullet-time in the multiplayer. I think only one player at a time could use it maybe. Also.. $100. In Australia we get $100-120 for a new game, and our dollar has been virtually the same as yours for a long time now (98 cents to US dollar last I saw the news last night). I'm not saying don't complain, I'm saying Australians should complain
That Violin tune gives me goosebumps... CAN'T WAIT! :D I know R* won't screw up the story, they never do... :)
Preordered !! This is going to be awesome @999realthings Stranglehold had bullet time and multiplayer, it was a different experience.
yet another multiplayer component that will sit unplayed by me. I'm in it for the single player story please Max. Can't wait to see how this turns, I just loved the first two
Am I the only one who hates cover systems? They always feel clunky to me. Just let me crouch and lean dammit!
60 bucks for the game, lets say 15 bucks goes to the in game things, making of the game CD, key chain and art prints. and the rest goes for the plastic , easily breakable 10 inch statue? No thanks.
Can't help but feel the special edition won't sell that well.. I absolutely love the games, but not enough to pay that much money. It'd be different if Max Payne had a huge fanbase, but the average person hasn't heard of it. Except for the Mark Wahlberg thing obviously :P
I'm a little surprised. While I enjoyed the Max Payne games, I wouldn't say they were anything truly special or that this franchise strikes me as big/popular enough - certainly not on par with Call of Duty or Gears of War or Elder Scrolls - to warrant a $100 collector's edition. Just seems like an odd choice.
i have never played any max payne before but i saw that tech demo vid and it looks total awesome that whole gun/bullet play thing whoa!!! i hope they nail it and it looks as good as that vid more so they say the vid was from ingame fotage
and for some people that are complaining about this if you do not want to buy this then don't it's your choice in the end.
It's sad but there is a lot of gamers out there that can't resist these special editions. My best friend is a little over the top, and he gets almost every limited edition out. He's admitted to me that he has a little OCD, and maybe that is why, but he has almost every limited edition 360! The Resident Evil one, Gears one, Halo, GTA, etc... He has a awesome game room and if one of his 360s break down, well it looks like he will have a replacement at hand.lol
This is nice and all, but I usually don't buy the special limited edition copies like this. They are just a little out of my budget. Now I will be getting the Star Wars slim 360 when it drops. I could care less for the game, but that system is nice!!!
@SolidTy You know that here in Australia we pay $100 for regular editions right? So I say $100 for this is great. I HATE our dumb pricing on games. It doesn't even have to do with currency difference. AUD $100 = USD $99. A dollar difference. So you are lucky in a way.
I'll just get it to have something to store my legitimate pharmaceuticals. You know, for my back and stuff.
@SPYDER0416 LOL! Then you don't know Rockstar. I own a few of their old games, Wild Metal for the Dreamcast is one of them and it sucks.
if only all this useless stuff could be traded for a game longer than 6 hours. fat chance these days
@SolidTy Dude, its Rockstar, they haven't made a bad game in... well, I don't think they've ever made a bad game. Maybe a bit mediocre (Manhunt 2), but Max Payne 3 will definitely be awesome.
really can;t say this is worth 100, maybe with an art book, which would be nice to have instead of the max figure... and maybe a making of dvd, but 100 for some mp characters a weapon, a figure, and the games soundtrack?! I don't think so...
You know what's funny? The preorder of this SE ends 2 months before the game hits shelves, delays not withstanding.
I can see other publishers replicating this style of promotion, and some of their games will be pretty terrible when they actually hit, but they will be financial successes nonetheless.
$100 is nice compared to Skyrim's $150. What a waste of $50 that could go towards a whole 'nother game.
Only useful thing for some ppl is the key-chain drug stash. I just hope they don't do crap like this for GTA V, SEs/CEs are fine, but not when they force you to get it for extra content not available for purchase otherwise. also Please R* no GTA V protag figurine
@WolfattheDoor34 Just because it looks like it should, doesn't mean it has to; now I'm all for the changes they've added and it looks like good old Max is back in action, but hearing about this is a little concerning. I trust Rock* to create a quality game, but as of the past decade there have been games that have multi-player but shouldn't, i.e Bioshock 2, Uncharted 2, Assassins Creed; That'd be like adding multi-player to God of War. The only thing that made them good or somewhat good was their actual attention to multi-player as a separate component, but that was luck, to me though I think it takes away from the main story and serves as too much of a distraction.
@ twztid13 What are you talking about? GTAIV and Red Dead both had multiplayer and still had fairly full campaigns. Rockstar won't crap out a 5-hour story, this isn't Call of Duty.
adding multiplayer, and switching the mechanics up, makes me think this game will fail. any sp game that has mp forced on it always ends up shorter & not worth my money new. i will wait for reviews, then if it's good, i'll rent it to beat the 5 hour campaign in 2 sittings. that's how these things work now, right?
