so... max is a biker now.. If halo reach isn't good then i'll hold off losing faith in the games industry till Beyond Good and Evil 2 comes out.. and if that's bad.. i might just shoot someone..
Rockstar Vancouver's shooter sequel pushed to Aug.-Oct. quarter as Take-Two president Ben Feder says 2K Games has "long-term publishing rights" to Gearbox's action-RPG hit.
This afternoon, Take-Two Interactive stock plummeted as much as 21 percent following the company's downward revision of its full-year earnings estimates. Financial carnage aside, the report also bore some unwelcome news for those wanting to play Max Payne 3. The long-awaited return of the landmark shooter series has been pushed back into the August-October quarter of 2010, the fourth quarter in Take-Two's fiscal year. The game had originally been set for a winter 2009 release before being delayed to the first half of 2010.
Set for release on the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, Max Payne 3 is currently in the works at Rockstar Games' Vancouver studio, which took over development reins from Finnish shop Remedy (Alan Wake). The game will see the former New York police detective living in squalor in a Rio de Janeiro slum, having bulked up and gone bald. Details on the game's story are slim, but screens show that events soon descend into the gun-fueled violent gameplay that the series is known for.
In more welcome news, Take-Two also used the announcement to tease the prospect of a sequel to its best-selling action role-playing game, Borderlands. In a conference call with analysts, chairman Strauss Zelnick praised the game, saying it shows "every sign of becoming an important, long-term franchise." Company president Ben Feder then announced that the 2K Games label has secured "long-term publishing rights to Borderlands sequels."
The Borderlands IP remains the property of its developer, Gearbox Software, which has also hinted a sequel is planned. For the moment, though, the suburban Dallas studio is focused on the pipeline of downloadable content for the first Borderlands, such as the just-released--and well-reviewed--Zombie Island of Dr. Ned.
For Max Payne, Rockstar will have to somehow "wow" the fans in spite of drastic changes from previous installments. Otherwise, the franchise will be driven into the ground. It's about what the fans want, plain and simple.
Sirwinston89, That wasn't a very good comparison since FO3 turned out to be nothing like the previous two. I'm a little worried about what Rockstar will do with this game. We will probably have a cover system, regenerating health, and slowmo for as long as we like.
To everyone who has written this game off simply because it's being made by Rockstar, not Remedy, remember the doubts people had before Fallout 3, and it pretty much destroyed everyone's expectations. Just sayin'.
I thought borderlands sequel was a certainty with the way the game ended. Gearbox, don't rush it. I'm still playing the first one it's that good lol!!
they need to make an ultimate version of borderlands for pc and have everything they originally said would be in it, in it.. like u start with a atv and up grade it to bigger rides.. and add a weapon smithing thing, i think that would be cool, so u can take good stuff and put it on other good stuff and the lower the class the less u can fit together and the better u get u can make stuff work... i was just disappointed in what they put in compared to what they said they were.. but dont get me wrong it was a great game and i spent much time playing it, maybe to much..
I think they should do a makeover for Max Payne 3. I mean jumping from what happened and what he was in Max Payne 2 does not really sit right with Max Payne 3. I mean he goes from a cop trapped in a conspiracy to some guy who looks like a terrorist? They should do what Ubisoft did with Splinter Cell: Conviction.
Borderlands was a very disappointing game. I liked it somewhat, but it was missing a lot. It reminded me of a generic Stranger's Wrath. Given the choice I'd rather play Stranger. Here's hoping the sequel can offer that something extra the first game is missing. As for Max Payne 3, I'm really looking forward to it. It's been a while since I've played a Max Payne game. I'm a bit sketchy on the new setting, but I'm actually glad of the new look. Max went through hell in the last 2 games and it's cool that his image shows it. Let's hope they can pull off a 3rd game. It very well could be too much change for fans to deal with. Unless they get it just right that is. We'll know in August I guess.
can't say i'm excited to see an even more depressing version of max payne - gone bald, bearded, and having somewhat of a gut. but it sounds like it'd be interesting. perhaps it'll explore more on the Valhalla project and the Inner Circle and their effect at the international level. i'd be open to all of this, despite Max's degraded image (and i can only imagine how much more melancholy max is going to sound)...
im really not looking forward to another BL i like it but its missing alot.its suppose to be an rpg slash shooter but its more like an shooter.the skill tree was good for the siren and hunter but all the hype was just that a buch of hype.plz before making BL2 take the time out to make it what its worth.
Well I liked Borderlands.. but for some reason I thought I was going to like it more than I did which is unfortunate and I cant really say what its missing.. well actually I can. The multiplayer aspect has to work better, and if you are playing the game single player it just feels like empty, devoid of any purpose to you really being there exept to find that next killer gun.. which is cool for like 20 mins but that gets boring to quick.. Just give me more purpose to invest time with your game.. it just feels kinda pointless.
@firehawk998 "A Max Payne game without remedy and the new york setting is not a Max Payne game at all." Gotta say, i agree.
I can't help thinking that Max Payne 3 will be garbage.... I loved the first two games, but if you look at that image it looks just like Splinter Cell 4 and we all know how that turned out to be a phuck load of sh**t
No way I really was looking forward to this game coming out since I had the previous Max Payne games and loved them. This really sucks but I think that this new game setting is a bit too ambitious. They should have sticked to New York, I guess the developers wanted a change of location. This might actually freshen up things.
@FallenOneX I completely agree with you. It's either gonna be an amazing successful redo like RE4, or a wreck like some of the Tomb Raider remakes.
@E__Nygma The reason they changed the model for the second game was because they had a bigger budget for the game and could afford to have real actors so they didn't need to use Sam Lakes(Sami Järvi, the script writer) likeness anymore.
Max Payne 3 will suck, the sooner you all realize that the better. And for one reason, Remedy isn't making it and Rockstar doesn't get what made the first 2 games awesome. It wasn't the action I can tell you that much.
At best it's another RE4, where they redo the look, and we get a killer gamer. @ worst, a decent game that will make long time fans say "meh", and new comers enjoy.
Why are people so upset over the look of Max? I liked his old look better, but its not that big of a complaint, he is older after all and that is a fact of life. You dont look like you are in your 20's anymore, and yes some men lose their hair. Its not as big of a deal as people are making it.
@Microwin I think I remember reading the article in PC Gamer. Now I have to go check my sources. Thanks.
I know that Max Payne is the big dog in this yard... but, personally I can't wait for more news on a Borderlands sequel. The game is amazingly fun.
I'm not too bothered. I'm sure it will be a good game but as people have said, there's plenty of good games coming out next year so I can wait. I hope Gearbox make Aliens: Colonial Marines before they start focusing on a Borderlands Sequel.
The first Max Payne was a benchmark title for the PC. Will wait to see how the new one turns out. Enjoyed Max Payne 2 though, the cleaners :)
Like i always say as long as the they're working on the game and making it better i don't mind the extra wait. I hope it can live up to part 1 & 2.
This drop dosent even matter because they a lot of games coming out next year. These guys are gonna be singing arab money by the time biososhock 2 comes out.
That sucks. Well, I guess there's enough stuff coming out next year as it is, and I have to cut back on gaming anyway.
i loved max payne on ps2. I also loved borderlands but if i had to decide which 1 to be relesed first would be max payne.
@Microwin Actually, the reason the model is different is because the person who Max Payne was modeled after decided to not have his likeness in the second game, so they had to get another model.
@Microwin Totally agree These guys dont know how to pay respect to the classics same happen to ff 7, s***w it, Who invented slowing down time, who added that cool dark style game? Max payne If u compare this game with the actual games of course they will look better But MaX Payne almost invented them!!
@ oneligas if you didn't play the sequel then it's obvious you're NOT going to GET why the character appareance was changed. DUH. The first one wasn't "ok", it was FREAKING AWESOME. It was the beginning of a trend in slowing down time, after that, loads of other games started to imitate it in their own way. The 2nd release was done mainly for plot, since the gameplay hadn't really changed. The plot takes years later, which is why the character's appearance was changed. I'm sure the 3rd one will probably remain with the same gameplay (I hope not though) and they will try to sell it as a plot change.
i only played Max Payne on a whim, it was ok. i didn't feel the need to play the sequel and i don't get why the character appearance was changed.
