Mass Effect movie project now science fact

Plus, they should get someone better to do the script, thor's was pretty dang bad. Howabout you get the guys that did Star Trek?

How the hell would you do this? Shepherd could either be a guy or a chick and who would they choose to keep alive and who would they choose to kill off?

Uh, great. So they've decided to make a mass effect film about a game most me-fans have already played. It might actually be interesting - for people who *haven't* played ME1.

@splashy101 ummm... The same way they turn a good book into a badass movie... If the director knows what hes doing he can pull it off...

hate to see em making stupid*ss movies from great comics, games, and other sources. i can't think of one game turned movie that was worth a crap. all these comic based movies for the last 10 years seem to have been made for lil kids and ruined the adult themes of the stories. we can always hope they might do it right though.

This is a bad idea! first of all mass effect 2 takes at least 30 hours to complete, putting that into a 90 or 120 minute movie is near impossible, considering masss effect has so much entertaining and important dialogue that their gonna end up skipping alot! and the second thing is I always saw mass effect 1 & 2 as a high production sci fi series like stargate or star trek (few examples)... I don't like this idea, but I would still like to see how this turns out!

Meh. I've got a bad feeling about this... While I absolutely love the game series, I don't think a movie will do nearly as good, because, as already mentioned, one of the things that made ME great were all the decisions you got to pick. But now, the whole story will just be one way or another, and.. meh... I'd rather they put more effort into the third installment of the series.

Adapt ME2 as the film's plot and than use ME1 as flashback scenes.

Good idea, if Bioware themselves would take it to their own hands and do a full length movie from their Cinematic at the start of ME2, I would be so much more confident, that the movie would be just as perfect as both games.

I think that this truly has potential, I mean, the games already play out similar to an action film. This is especially true in the cut scenes, if they stick to more of a cgi instead of live action, I would definitely go see it.

I am just glad that Uwe Boll stayed away from ME.

Finally we're seeing some actually worthy game-to-movie adaptations. I think half the reason they've always done bad aside from Uwe Boll, is that they always are based on average titles at best. I mean who really gives a sh*t about a Blood Rayne movie? Now if they could just get Half-Life, Metal Gear Solid, and FreeSpace movies going... :3

I don't understand. I know everyone likes movies, but Bioware games are cinematic epics within themselves. When the end credits rolled around in ME2, I said to myself, "wow, that was a better experience than any movie could ever give." The key is that movies limit your creativity. They assign plot points and decisions that the audience has no say in. Bioware's magic comes in the moral and plot decisions the player gets to make. I'm not against them making a movie. But you may as well just give the game another play through on a new character instead.

@Trident85: You're right. In fact, a majority of those movies seems to be made by german director Uwe Boll, considered by many to be the new Ed Wood...

Its true that video game movies usually dont turn out too well...but it's just because they get really bad directors with tiny budgets to do it with. I pray this comes out and carries that awe-inspiring feel that the games did....and with a good director and backed by Legendary films, this could be a huge hit :)

I cannot wait for this movie. though a lot of u have a point as to the personal touches everyone has to there own sheppard. But seeing how most/all movies have the hero its no doubt they will try a mixed good guy- baddass with the film. having a distinctive character that you can customize to your liking is to hard to translate to a film. dont screw it up, for your fans sake.

Movies from comics or vg have always been crap, and this works the other way round too. That is an all time rule. Of course there are some exceptions (i.e. Sin City)

You know, this movie doesn't have to be about the game. There are so many more possible movie ideas in the Mass Effect universe: The First Contact War, the downfall of Saren (AKA the books), The Lazarus Project and the two years between Shepards death and rebuilding... Hell, follow the journey of an Alliance ship during the events of the first game, ending with the Battle of the Citadel. This doesn't have to be hard to do, you can't make a movie about Shepards journey that everyone will like, why try?

This is a bad idea. Everyone's Shepard is different. Mass Effect is amazing because it really is your personal experience. You choose what you look like, your background, your attitude and who you have relationships with. Somebody else making all those decisions for you is just boring. It takes the fun out of all of it. Let's face it, once you take away all of the customization and dialogue choices, Mass Effect is just a normal shooter. The only thing that could make this decent is a BIG budget and a lot of time. It could still be a decent Sci-fi film. However, it wont be able to capture the Mass Effect experience.

Mass Effect movie will never be better then the game... i really hope they put some origin/background [earthborn, ruthless, spacer, warhero etc.] story in the movie.

I just hope that the movie's as EPIC as the game .. and if it does, here's to hoping it's a trilogy as well.

also 85% of the time video games that inspire movies and vice versa turn out to be crap. I'm not holding my breath for this. (( Also 96% of time when anime inspire real life action movie aka dragon ball also turn out to be crap.)

BigGhost_AJT: I agree with you in that it will be hard to define a character who does not in fact exist in any two games. The bright side is if they plan on including Miranda Lawson she should be easy to cast as long as you have hair dye, lol. I'll at least give it a chance, but the game is practically an epic movie already.

This is the future people, video games and movies coming into one. Most people who play video games are in there late twenties and early thirties. So transforming movies into games and games into movies can be a grand market for consumers and producers alike. The future of entertainment I wish I was in on it.

as awesome as it would be for Shepard to be female. it wont happen. Shepard is predominantly a male just like revan people. *rolls eyes* we just have the option to make it a female so we feel closer to our character. In the movie Shepard will be a male. and alot of you have a valid point. they should base the movie off a book or before shepard came into focus, cuz its just a whole leap of fail waiting to happen if they dont. and i REALLY dont want them messing up Mass Effect like they did hitman.

Mass Effect movie is intriguing. My concern is how they will characterize Cmdr Sheppard. Is not like they're casting just a character like Master Chief or Mario. Sheppard is to every player what they wanted Sheppard to be. Whomever they get to play the part will not fit with everyone's idea of Sheppard. Could be a disconnect there. Me? My Sheppard looks like some bad Lawrence Fishburn with scars. Pretty sure that's not how he will look in the game.

@ NoiseMonkeyy I agree with you.They should turn ME books or comics into a movie.Like you said,game is different for everybody.

Both games are great,books and comics are great,now make the movie great,dont screw up like Pop or Hitman were screwed.

This would make a great movie under the right director. The characters and story are right up there for action, drama, and sequels. Lets hope that time is put into it and the actors are chosen carefully to propel the storyline. Mass Affect is among my most favorite games and so far they have not let me down. Hope the same goes for the movie.

I don't think it will work, purley because whiche character gender they go with and which moral path the film goes with someone will be unhappy, Mass Effect is different for everybody so sticking with a generic path is just not going to work.

Please let it be female shepard! I'm so tired of male action heroes. In fact, I'd just go and cast jennifer hale, she does perfect voice already.

I kinda like the Mass Effect games more than I like a Star Wars movie/game, no offence to fans of George Lucas, but that's how I feel :P. John Shepard just seems like my kind of hero (paragon, or otherwise). Never liked Luke Skywalker too much :P, I only saw the movies because Han Solo (Harrison Ford) & Darth Vader were cool :D (+Jabba the Pizza Guy was funny). As a further comparaison I see Mass Effect as being a better evolved plot, they do go out of their way to explain things in an almost believable scientific matter & possibility, whereas in Star Wars you just knew there were Jedis, Syths (or Siths, dunno the correct word) & The Force. No offence to Star Wars fans once again, but I believe that a Mass Effect movie done right (with a good director, script, actors) could seriously kick some ass (paragon or renegade style, u name it :D).

This will never happen. Just like Halo. Star Wars, by thre way, is part of popualr culture Gamespot writer. Mass Effect is a game, nothing more.

Karl Urban i think looks exactly like Shepard. hes the bad guy from the Chronicles of Riddick and the Bourne Supremacy. and he was in star trek. hes not a stranger to science fiction and action movies

Matthew Fox as Commander Shepard? Hes already played one Shepard, looks like the main character, is the right age, and certainly has the acting chops to pull it off.

I sure hope they don't mess this up. They should have the guys who wrote the game script writing the movie script, just saying. Hopefully they pick someone good to play Shepard too.
