This makes me wonder if their budget will be lost like all other game related movies. I remember something a few years back about a BioShock movie being set to be released but after their budget cuts I was extremely disappointed .
Upcoming film based on BioWare's space RPG marches on, but without Mark Protosevich; new screenplay to be written by Rescue Me assistant editor.
Legendary Entertainment is continuing work on the Mass Effect film, but Thor and I Am Legend screenplay writer Mark Protosevich is no longer attached. Variety reports that Protosevich has been replaced by newcomer Morgan Davis Foehl.
Foehl has never had a script produced, but did serve as assistant editor on FX television show Rescue Me, as well as Adam Sandler comedies I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry and Click.
According to the report, producers at Legendary Entertainment were drawn to Foehl because he is a self-admitted Mass Effect fan and has experience writing scripts similar to the general Mass Effect plot.
The Mass Effect film was officially confirmed in 2010. A report from 2011 indicated the movie's narrative would follow the first game in the series, though it is not clear if that remains the intention. No director has been named for the film nor any actors. It is also uncertain if Commander Shepard will be played by a male or female actor.
this will either be bad...or really bad. seriously, name the last video game movie that was actually GOOD. As far as I know it hasn't happened yet. Resident Evil, Super Mario Bros, Silent Hill, Street Fighter (lmao), you name it, it sucked.
This movie is not happening. Just like BioShock, Gears of War, Halo, et al. People just spout speculative talk and then quietly forget they ever even thought about actually doing them in the first place.
I wonder if the movie will contain homosexual scenes. Because gamers in general like to see homosexuality in action am I rite?
As long as the movie ends nothing like the video game trilogy, I can see it having potential. If it follows the script that outraged millions of fans worldwide, well....let's just say, that might add more fuel to the fire.
Hopefully, they keep it to Mass Effect 1, storywise.
@pathosfire Enough already. If the game had come out with the Extended Cut, nobody would be complaining, incessantly, on every article for the rest of time, desperately seeking likes.
Love Mass Effect but absolutely ZERO interest. None. (Nothing to do with ME 3 Ending whining. I was cool with Extended Cut) A linear movie about an RPG. I love how people think consumers will buy anything if it has a certain name on it.
Hope it isn't extremely true to the initial story. I'd rather it be a good film than a bad rendition.
hopefully they will not have a kill-all-reapers-button (crucible) and the starchild (catalyst) in the movie, otherwise, just...let...it...die!
u can never make a good movie out of an RPG! It would atleast take 4 hours in movie just MAKE a character like Commander Shepard. srsy lol
@Sp3ncerK That's why it should be made into a TV series.
Glad he's gone, as Thor was literally a miserable piece of #^$@, it was so amature that it was a torment to finish it. ME3 certainly wasn't perfect, but it deserves far more than being treated like another low budget B-class copy-pasta.
Thor's story sucked so hard, so this could be good. Then again, we already all know this will be an absolute disaster which will further sully the name of Mass Effect, and make all gamers look like children. Again.
@MooncalfReviews Yes! Unfortunately I really don't think he wants to work with them again. His departure was too politically correct for it to have been his true reasons.
Thor was a mess. An overly-dark action scene to start things off, then a powerless superhero for the main chunk of the movie, then a 5 minute scene where he hammers a walking tin man after learning his lesson cause he thought his dad died. THE END.
I don't want a Mass Effect movie, especially not penned by that guy. If they MUST make a Mass Effect movie, make it completely unrelated to the games. Use the universe, but make something unique in it.
He was the assistant editor on Adam Sandlers I Now Pronounce you Chuck and Larry, and Click...Oh and he never had a script produced. Well I see this as an epic fail. Good bye Mass Effect. Needless to say I will be waiting on the reviews and numbers before I go spend $18 to see this one, or $24 to see it in 3D...of which I'm sure their going to waste their time to do.
@mechmaster525 $18 to see a movie? Wow! No wonder people are raping bit torrent sites for movies.
Forget ME and Gears of War they should make a movie on Metal gear or Assassin's creed.Perhaps even Alan wake.
It would do better as a TV show. They are gonna spoil it if they are making a movie .Besides people are gonna call it a star wars ripoff.
Why would they? mass effect has about as much in common with star wars as the movie terminator, or aliens does. The real issue with either a movie or tv show of mass effect is that by the time it's made, mass effect will no longer be relevant. Think of the Max Payne movie, which was made years and years after the last game.
@Jedi4ce28 @gamefreak215jd Because Mass Effect is sci fi, has aliens, space travel, etc so ya some people who no nothing of the games will call it a star wars rip off. Just like when Green Lantern came out there were people who actually thought DC changed Green Lanterns race from black to white because they only watched Justice League and only knew John Stewart as a Green Lantern. Also when DC makes a Justice League movie people will probably just say DC ripped off Marvel, because people are stupid.
@Jedi4ce28 You got a point there but EA are currently planning to create a new ME game,so I guess it won't be irrelevent.
yeah, I'm so excited.....let's relive the trilogy but show Shepard as an a$$ and as a man at times and a woman at times...you know just to please all the fanboys but he/she romances everyone which raises all sorts of unanswered questions then do the opposite of everything done in the games.....because it'll surprise moviegoers...
then we'll get to the end and the'll have to put the ending on the home release, get the SE Blue Ray you get the whole thing but if you get DVD you'll get the bad ending and standard BR get's the middle ending.....you know just to keep with the traditions of the games.....and to make you feel like you got something special...the Ultimate edition will come out later with 5 extra discs of content...because....well you gotta pander to everyone now.....
needless to say I'm not interested........
If the movie is R-rated it will have lost a lot more and much more critical than a random screen writer...
@tgwolf The movie has to be rated R, how else is EA going to get away with showing all of Shepard's love interests topless lol.
The last 10 minutes of the movie will replay 3 times, but once in each color red, blue, and green. Then it will be advertised as having 3 unique endings.
Bioware is dead thanks to EA, and now they are using Hollywood to parade the corpse around the globe
Well, I still expect Bioware to make great games. Mass Effect 3 was fantastic outside of shoddy writing for the ending.
A lot of the same people who always worked for Bioware still work there, despite losing some very talented people. Don't give up on them yet.
@Psycold Next command and conquer the movie! battlefield the movie! why dead space not a movie? sim city the movie! etc etc!
@Psycold goddamnit. as much as I want to believe otherwise I know that you are most assuredly right. :/
