EA's third-person shooter tie-in for Apple hardware will boost galactic readiness in Mass Effect 3, unlock exclusive weapons.
Those who want to boost their galactic readiness factor for Mass Effect 3's finale but can't be bothered with multiplayer will soon have a new option. Today, Electronic Arts announced Mass Effect Infiltrator, an iOS title that will impact the Galaxy at War mode in Mass Effect 3.
EA described Infiltrator as a "fully featured" third-person shooter set within the Mass Effect universe. In it, players assume the role of an intergalactic hero charged with freeing prisoners from a Cerberus base, as well as gathering damning intelligence on the criminal network.
Freed prisoners and gathered intelligence will boost a player's galactic readiness in Mass Effect 3. BioWare has previously addressed this galactic readiness level, saying that those who do not participate in Galaxy at War through Mass Effect 3's multiplayer modes can still achieve the "optimal, complete ending" through single-player alone.
Beyond galactic readiness, Infiltrator will also give players the chance to unlock exclusive weapons that can be used in Mass Effect 3.
Mass Effect Infiltrator will be available for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A specific release date has not yet been announced.
so in order to get some of the content, i have to buy a game on a sodding iWhateverthehell to get it? Why do you hate your customers EA?
IOS THE BEST. IPHONE IS THE BEST!! ANDROID SUCKS!!!! IPHONE CAN TAKE PICS!! IPHONE IS THE NICEST!!! I LOVE IPHONE!! I LOVE SIRI!! I WANNA HAVE BABIES WITH SIRI!!! ANDROID CAN EAT IPHONE-LINGS' SHI*!! keep the -1 coming
Mass Effect 3 is already doomed to be an action game/Gears clone so this is just more cash for Bioware from stupid fans.
personally i am wanting to know something all we hear is them saying things that in fact mean nothing-we know all this give us REAL information or show us some more of the game
So if you can get the optimal ending in single-player alone, what's the incentive to play the multiplayer, aside from achievements? Maybe there'll be some singleplayer in-game effects.
@kvan33 Good luck with that. Even with all this crap, I still trust this game to deliver. While you're waiting for the price to go down, I'll be off saving the galaxy.
How about this readiness EA? Because of all this MP talk and iOS apps, ME3 has gone off from my "buy on release date" list, to my "buy when price drops" list.
I am about to buy my first smart phone. It's going to be an Android. Why? Because I can't afford a contract on a phone. Instead of getting an iPhone and getting mired in the BS that comes with it, I'll be buying an Android, which is available on nearly every prepaid service out there. As for why I don't just buy an iPad or iPod touch: I already have a desktop, a laptop, and am about to get a smartphone. Why in the world would I want another device?
I'm sick of people freaking out about this, if you don't want to do anything but the single player then you don't have to, it states IN THIS ARTICLE that you DON'T have to utilize Galaxy at War in order to get the best ending, it just makes it easier. The reason why multiplayer wasn't in the other ones was because they didn't want to compromise the story. I applaud Bioware for making multiplayer more interesting and not just saying "here play online". And as for story, give them a little faith. The story in Mass Effect has always been good, and it seems to only get better with time, Mass Effect 2 was much better then the first. What have they done to make you worry so much? (Dragon Age 2 wasn't made by the same people, it was a different team and a different writer, that would be like saying that Ubisoft is a good company because they made Assassin's Creed (I'm not saying they aren't, it's an example.).)
@delta16x Nobody is selling games in pieces. I can look at the screens for this iOS games and know it's not even meant for PC or consoles. Where would this game even fit in ME3? It's something that was made to be played in a simple manner on the go.
@gtacatalina- Okay you do realize that you can achieve maximum galactic readiness in singleplayer without touching the multiplayer right? Multiplayer is just another way. How can Bioware defend themselves to this kind of testimony when the fans don't know what they're talking about most of the time. Use your brain and curiosity to search for the answers. That's what they are there for.
I don't get why people are always p***ed about Activision. EA are the real a*******! I myself am not gonna buy ME3 until the price drops significantly, cause i definetly don't wanna support EA.
@johnny_pay Because Google doesn't pay to have games made exclusively. I'm an android user too, so this iOS obsession is irritating for me too.
@gtacatalina Nicely put. I feel the same way. All I want is the singleplayer experience without all the cliche multiplayer.
This is just lame brain. EA is making the wrong move here for a game that deserves better for it many fans of the series.
This is confusing and worrying! I do not want to play multiplayer. I do not have an iphone, ipad or an iPod Touch. I DO though want to be able to play the single player game and be able to reach maximum galactic readiness without all the other rubbish!
@moonlightwolf01 I agree man. EA is simply corruption. I think it'd even be cool if Valve Corp. published their games.
@Gamespot - DO SOMETHING !!! PUBLISH HOW HORRIBLE IT IS TO SELL THE GREATEST GAME ON THE PLANET IN PIECES :'(
You know I'm really beginning to worry about Bioware, you'd think with their vast heritage and long record of highly acclaimed releases they'd have the enough clout to tell EA where to stuff this BS instead they seem to be embracing it, even supporting it and writing articles about how this is the way forward for developers. Given that Mass Effect 3 had its release delayed just so they could tack on the multiplayer and develop this app I'm not overly worried about the quality of Mass Effect 3's story but future Bioware titles are going on the do not pre-order list for me, no matter how many pre-order bonuses they offer. Please Bioware leave EA, join Bethesda or Square Enix hell even THQ would be better. EA are killing you.
What a convoluted and confusing mess this is shaping up to be. Makes me worry about the quality of the story. Do I smell the makings of another Dragon Age 2 here?
@syafiqjabar, yep, no arguing with that. But Blizzard was an innovative developer. Both original Diablo and StarCraft were breakthroughs. But now they make mostly the same games, introducing few innovations and original ideas. They feast on their old great IPs making lots of money. And we have yet to see Diablo 3, which caused mixed reactions judging by the beta. In case of Mass Effect, BioWare explored new options and introduced new game mechanics. Hell, the original game itself was an innovation in the genre. All I hope for is that BioWare will keep bringing us original games, not reiterations of what was already done. Even Dragon Age 2 was a step forward. A clumsy step, but at least they explored that option. If it were Blizzard, they'd release DA2 ten years after, well balanced and polished, but slightly different from the original. Sorry for offtop, but I had to say it ;)
@Gv0zD Blizzard is still pretty much the same company that takes ages to make their games perfect and then release them to critical acclaim because yes they are close to perfect. I don't you have to buy this iOS game to get the full ending. The multiplayer can be played solo and you can play that instead. As long as you play the main game every few days it is doable.
This multi-platform interconnectivity have been imagined by people since the early days of gaming, and now we are seeing it happen in front of our eyes. Good thing it's optional. I wish they would make an Android version, but apparently the Unreal engine does not support it yet.
Sadly, EA knows how to spoil great franchises. It nearly killed Command and Conquer (now BioWare is trying to fix it), they milked Need for Speed until it became a "must not buy" game in many people's lists... And now they are trying to do the same with Mass Effect. BioWare is becoming EA's money making machine, and this is a bad symptome, at least for me... For now BioWare is my favourite game developer, and I hope it stays this way for long. EA, don't turn BioWare into Blizzard!
Oh, so now I have to buy an Apple device if I want to get full experience with ME3?! At least release the game on Windows Phone and Android as well, otherwise it's a discrimination... On the other hand I couldn't care less for such bonuses. The gameplay, difficulty and story don't depend on bonus weapons and armour. I can still enjoy the game without extra weapons, which I'm sure will only reduce the difficulty, and it's not the thing I pursue :P
@Heartagram_03 Begun? Also, once again with the Android crowd being ignored. I have two android devices, and I've paid for every piece of software on them (save for Amazon's Free Apps). I don't know, I just feel like this is lose/lose either way.
I love these games but all of this is getting out of control. Stop f*****g with me EA. I want to buy the entire game ONCE! Not in little pieces.
EA has to learn to be a compassionate lover. ME3 being its girlfriend needs to be tenderly loved, not ridden like a mule and its hair pulled out if they want to keep this a top game. Never thought I'd say this but I fear myself coming close to franchise fatigue from all of this extra nonsense with ME3.
With BioWare's EA direction in life I don't expect this series to be any good after #3. It started great as a single player RPG and it will likely die as a COD style FPS multiplayer.
I am the biggest Mass Effect fan, and cannot wait for this game. But this sort of thing is beginning to actually annoy me. Of course it is all optional, however, it's come to the point where to play the game at it's fullest, you must spend AU$130 for the collectors edition; possibly $20 for this; at least $50 for all those DLC's that will come out. So minimum $200 (or what is equivalent in your country) for just one game! If I hear one more f*****g word about used games destroying the f*****g industry, I'll choke someone! If next gen XBox does go ahead with it - you can go f**k yourself because I ain't supporting you or that BS claim!
damn whingers - toughen up princesses, and welcome to marketing products. Consider this a guaranteed download for me!

Mass Effect 3 opens in a ham-fisted, blundering way, mostly because EA insists upon delivering crucial plot points outside the main games.
