Sci-fi RPG trilogy capper will reportedly feature an attack on Earth by race of malevolent machines; listed for PC, 360, and PS3.
BioWare's big surprise at tomorrow's VGAs may have just been prematurely unveiled. This afternoon, gaming blog Joystiq spotted a listing on the EA Store for Mass Effect 3. The product page, which was rapidly taken down, listed the game as coming to the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
Besides outing the game's platforms, the listing reportedly had a brief description of the capper to the sci-fi role-playing trilogy: "Earth is burning. Striking from beyond known space, a race of terrifying machines have begun their destruction of the human race. As Commander Shepard, an Alliance Marine, your only hope for saving mankind is to rally the civilizations of the galaxy and launch one final mission to take back the Earth."
As of press time, EA reps had not commented on the listing. However, talk of a Mass Effect trilogy has been around since the first installment in 2007, so its existence isn't exactly surprising. It does, however, call into question whether or not a rumored Mass Effect spin-off actually exists or whether or not the VGA teaser may have just been for a multiplayer-enabled Mass Effect 3. Citing a "trusted source," Joystiq believes the latter to be the case.

@baystatethrashr - I hear ya, microsoft would be really nice if they let us try it, how cool would that be, a Microsoft game on a Sony console? :) But i think they said there will be a big old movie explaining the plot of ME1 at least.. better than nothing?
The more platforms the game developers have....the more income they get, therefore the better production a title gets. Hence Mass Effect 1 was AMAZING, after its release it shortly branched out to PC gamers months after...the Mass Effect 2 was a triumph over 1 in many ways (not exactly all ways though)...Now with 2 branching out on PS3 and revenues coming in from another system....how EPIC do you think 3 can be? Is that because game developers & publishers are making more money to fund more time and work INTO the game? I would think so...Unless Microsoft or Sony own the rights to any specific game I wouldn't be surprised to see more titles diversifying over many systems...although I hate to see authenticity of a system lost, because just the name of a system can bring memories. Someone says Nintendo....you think of Mario, Metroid, Zelda or something right? Well, what do you think if both Xbox360 & PS3 have ALL the same titles? No difference except for hardware right? they will keep a few exclusive blockbuster hits because they will not want to give up the rights to them for sure so Halo, God of War, Killzone, Gears of War and a few other titles will stay exclusive to keep a difference between the two systems...but otherwise a very large majority of games will be spread across all platforms. Its a good but sad trade....
Please no multi-player. I rather have that disc space be for story and have the developers focus on the single player than have ANY sort of multi-player.
@Neil: I do not agree. Don't get me wrong. It's fine for games to be on all platforms, however Microsoft used the sales pitch for their system (only on XBox). Now we get duped and it's out on all platforms. It's not a biggie, but if Micorsoft CANNOT commit to promises, why stay with Microsoft at all? It just means XBox is not serious about games, and gamers. Just about revenue and profit (which was not that big a secret anyway). From that point, how long until Fable, Halo, Splinter Cell and others go to Playstation 3. Perhaps when the sales of the 360 stop will they realise that gamers like it when developpers keep their word! Apart from that, technology seems to be in favour of the PSX3. if the threshold of games are lowered, XBox 360 will lose a little too much for 360 Gamers to be comfortable about.
@NeilCardiff It's all about the technological standpoint. The xbox uses a low DVD9 only holding about 8gb of memory telling developers they should only develop that 8gb. Where the ps3 uses dual layer blueray giving it about 60gb of space for developers to build massive worlds and stories. When a multiplat is built they only build to sustain that 8gb for the xbox whereas a ps3 exclusive it is much more massive. If games were no longer built to only sustain that 8gb on xbox I wouldn't care. So ms needs to improve the player and disks on the platform, start putting more multi disk games out (which is expensive(, or giving more of the game to ps3 owners (which is actually starting to show). That is all. Otherwise I wouldn't mind games for everyone.
@cyclonebw "Goodbye xbox exclusives. Now Masseffect is multiplat, last exclusive bungie game was reach and gears of war 3 is the last one. That kinda sucks..." Even if you were correct and ME was an xbox exclusive, why would you be so selfish to want it witheld from other platforms? Your attitude is the worst kind of fanboyism where you feel actual spite towards other gamers. To Bioware: NO MULTIPLAYER!
IMHO, If Bioware make a ME 'Spin Off' MP game, i reckon it should focus on the various different Mercenery groups (Blood Pack, Blue Suns & Eclipse), as this would provide the ability to play a whole host of different character sets, in addition to not impacting the main story arc.
Damn. Mass Effect 3 and Elder Scrolls IV coming out AT THE SAME TIME?! And Duke Nukem comes out in 2011 as well? This year already has my vote for greatest year in gaming History. 2011 is going to rock!

Confirmed at the VGA. Sadly, we have to wait close to or at least a year to play it. : ( Time to replay ME1 & ME2.
......................................................................... Ok that is it, time to start my 3rd ME1/2 career
I'm so glad their releasing this game for PS3. I'm not buying games for 360 anymore unless I have to. DVD's are just too easy to scratch. Besides, the PS3 version will have the DLC included. NICE!
A link for those who missed it http://www.gametrailers.com/video/vga-10-mass-effect/708363
@Scianix-Black yeah, totally. so long as they leave shepards story alone, Id be cool. they dont need to draghim out when they have a bevy of amazing characters to elaborate upon. He could make a cameo but no more than that
Too big of a universe to end at 3. I'm sure they'll continue the series well beyond the Shepard saga. Hopefully they make games out of the books... or just more stories within the ME universe. Maybe the Alliance stumbles upon a Mass Relay that leads to another galaxy... so many possibilities.
Man, so glad for the holiday release. I wonder if the whole dire situation on earth will equate to the longer you take to recruit races, people, etc. the more people die? Obviously, its gonna be all about recruiting huge armies (more like races) to stop the reapers, so .... urgh, now I have to wait... Bummer.
I didn't want to believe the released image was from ME3 because the tech looked low-tech, but was I wrong. The trailer just came out and man I can't wait to play it.
@anthonycg Im glad some people see my point. honestly, I wouldnt mind a separate spin-off for MP if they really want to do it (I wouldnt buy it) but not for ME3. I, like a lot of people Im sure, care a lot about this sequel to a wierdly large amount and dont want to see it messed up
@Sirbob I don't see the appeal in extra experience. In the end, what weapons are used, upgrades to weapon damage, and upgrades to shields will be more useful then the magnitude of the skills you're using. I'd rather have bullet fodder squad mates distracting the enemy vs another player distracting me.
MrHatnClogs, Yeah, Tali was my first, simply to finally see her face, was soo gutted that that there was no reveal.
Well, ive completed ME2 7 times using various methods, and all i can say about ME3 is simply..... Bring It On! Cos i cant wait!
@Oodama_Rasengan It would be like fables coop where the 2nd player is a henchman the person playing as shepard has the control the 2nd player gets exp and if they choose story progression in their game, id love to have a friend playing as one of my squad mates instead of the AI which has a tendency to stand the wrong side of cover and get blown to pieces but it's not a must would be nice though
@GravityDs I remember those days! The days when systems and games didn't cost you both arms and legs?
I don't see how co-op would work at all. We play as Shepard. We make decisions for Shepard. Whether the 2nd player plays as a squadmate or, god forbid, a 2nd Shepard (I'd like to see how Bioware would explain that), one player won't get to make any choices and have an ultimately squandered experience. Illusive Man: Shepard. . . *exhales smoke* We at Cerberus have reason to believe you'll fail your mission to stop the Reapers. . . **camera zooms to Illusive Man's eyes, then slowly to his star** Illusive Man: *indifferently* We've invested in a time machine to extract a Shepard from a parallel universe to assist you. He'll most likely have an antagonistic little kid behind him with a loud mouth. He may also be distracting and downright useless, however... *****EA logo faintly appears on his star***** Illusive Man: *stands and looks at star with an evil grin* We assure you, this decision has humanity's best interests at heart. . . Shepard: I should go.
