I'm so glad to hear that the sequel is coming soon enough. I didn't play the first, i wasn't intrested in games that take place in the future, i was more into elder scrolls, but somehow, I decided to give a try to Mass Effect 2 (pirated version of course). The game was just amazing (which is why i bought the special edition even if I already played it). Mass Effect 3 is definitly on my to-buy list. I'm just hoping for new cool skills and abilities. ( Btw, i'm pretty sure Kinect isn't the FUTURE of computer controls. I'm rather sure that it is more like the wii, it made a big sensation at the beginning, but it slowed down fast enough. Wearing 3d glasses isn't bad, and i'm not talking about anaglyph. There is ways to make 3d even without glasses...And unfortunatly, ps3 is getting alot of the exclusives games. I wished they made more games for pc...cause it IS the best gaming platform, if we consider it a gaming platform. One last thing, I CAN see the future : Holography ( or something similar,my visions are perturbed) XD)
Just-announced sci-fi RPG will hit three major platforms at once during the 2011 holiday season.
Last Friday, Electronic Arts' online store prematurely revealed the existence of Mass Effect 3, the third installment in BioWare's sci-fi role-playing game trilogy. Though the listing was quickly pulled, it was up long enough to reveal that the game was in development for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
Though development on the three platforms appeared to be concurrent, it was unclear if all versions of the game would be released at the same time. Today, though, publisher Electronic Arts announced that the game will launch in late 2011 on all three platforms simultaneously, a first for the series. Mass Effect 2 was initially released only for the PC and Xbox 360 in 2010, with a PS3 port due out on January 18, 2011.
Though today's announcement had no details on Mass Effect 3's story or gameplay, the official Mass Effect website is listing a brief synopsis of the game similar to that on the now-reposted EA Store product page. It reads: "Earth is burning. Striking from beyond known space, a race of terrifying machines have begun their destruction of the human race. As Commander Shepard, an Alliance Marine, your only hope for saving mankind is to rally the civilizations of the galaxy and launch one final mission to take back the Earth."
Neither Saturday's VGA reveal of Mass Effect 3 nor today's official announcement indicated whether the game would have multiplayer, as had been rumored. An accompanying trailer (see below) did show the race of machines to be the Reapers, the sentient spaceships that were central to the plot of the first Mass Effect.
@Phatjam98 And you certainly love your X360. Too bad I'm more of a PC gamer than a console gamer so your mock actually misses me by a long shot. I'm not necessarily a console-lover just because my opinion differs from yours, your opinion is just one of many, it's not the most important - nor is it the least important either. Thinking your opinion is the only one is very closeminded and claiming it's the only possible fact really makes you sound ignorant yourself. Can you see into the future? I don't think so, neither can I, however I never claimed I could, did I? Kinect is - infact, a gimmick. It won't become the primary controller, that I'm sure of, there are tons of people that like it, tons of those that don't either. PS2 EyeToy runs the way Kinect does - gameplaywise, did it get the mainstream? It did not, games need buttons. Kinect is a lot more complex to code for than Move - as well. It's been 4 years, PS3 was released Dec. 2006 in Japan and Northern America, March 2007 in Europe. Also, I can find 3D glasses for 5e, don't believe me? Red And Cyan Stereoscopic polarized Click me
Company reps said the technology on display was built into the HDTV itself, meaning it would work with preexisting PS3 games and consoles. However, more importantly for gamers, Sony reps said the company is aiming to integrate the 3D technology into the PS3 hardware itself starting in 2011 and 2012. The company said similar plans are under way for Blu-ray players and VAIO laptops.
Now, even if you say 3D is a gimmick, it's not necessarily a gimmick, same goes for Kinect and Move. Your opinion is not the most important one, you don't make the decisions on it. Neither do I. So stop acting like you do. If you can't take criticism, don't post. Also, "LOL" - kind of words only make your arguement more unbelievable. Just a tip. Also, I do believe the PS3 will get more attention with exclusive games like Killzone 3, Resistance 3, Uncharted 3, LittleBIGPlanet 2, inFAMOUS 2, Motorstorm 3, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus compilation + ex-Xbox 360 exclusive "Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3" and the returning of the Valve games - starting "Portal 2" than Xbox 360 with Gears of War 3, Forza 4 and Kinect. That's my opinion, you have yours. It's not like you can change my opinion with an opinion of yours nor can I do it the other way around. Also, if you're saying Microsoft will use controllers on some games in addition to Kinect, remember how Microsoft said they were aiming for "Controllerless" gaming. I do believe it means that the controller is not included. I'm sorry, but only an idiot would say that the PS3 is not doing good next year. No offence.
Oh and as far as the 3DTV craze... there isn't one. A recent research firm just explained that 3DTV's are about 10 years out from being a mainstream purchase. No one likes having to wear those glasses, they are super expensive, and the 3D providers simply dont have much in the way of content. I'm not saying it wont catch on, but in todays economy no one real can afford spending the thousands of dollars on the sets and glasses. And until the tech picks up steam the glass required for the glass-less sets is very expensive. All I'm saying is that 3D ability is not a selling point for the PS3 XBox or anything else at this point. It truly is a gimmick at this point.
@TevoxZi LOL wow, you certainly love your PS3. No PS3 is not going to move ahead in the console wars next year. Next year is not as you think, going to be sony's year. Kinect is not a gimmick as the Move is. Kinect is the start of the future of computer controls. As I've said before, you dont need a game to be 100% kinect controls to take advantage of the tech. In FPS, it would be so cool to be able to lean left or right to peer around corners(while you control majority of the game with the controller). Mark my words, Kinect is no gimmick and the tech will find its way into all aspects of our lives both at home and in stores and the workplace. Its progress, and I know that scares some of you, but its something we all have thought about for years. Sorry but next year is not the year of the PS3. Its been what, 5 years? Sorry but its just not gonna happen this Gen for Sony. Better luck next Gen... and maybe stop strong arming developers so that they take away former exclusives, what do you say? LOL
@Toysoldier34, I agree, but my main concern has always been when they convert PC/Platform games to the big screen, they destroy the whole thing with a BS script, and popular actors who can't act to save themselves. If anyone picked up the rights to make ME-ME3 a blockbuster movie trilogy, they need to leave the comedy out of it, and make it into a darker series, on par with the new and IMPROVED Batman series.....etc.
@fzd88 I agree, ME1 had a lot more heart than the second one. Playing ME2 and 3 without number 1 sucks for PS3 owners. Exploration, looting and customization needs a return in the third game seriously. I don't like that EA owns BioWare now, they changed ME2 too much (although I still adore it). ME2 definitely got an RPGectomy.
@TevoxZi @Phatjam98 Ya part of what makes quality 3D glasses expensive is because they have electronic componets that comunicate with the TV like how Nvidias 3D vision works. But by 2012/2013 3DTVs will be glasses less like the 3DS
@Phaselinear Maybe when they release each movie they can have three versions where the story plays out a little differently and the endings change, then each of the three flow into another that picks up the story. If Activision made ME you know Kotick would have done this already. Every Call of Duty pre-order comes with a Mass Effect ticket.
Hopefully this time the PC version will be a little more than a console port. You can always tell when games are low end ports when you get to change like 4 options. A true PC game should let you control the experience with many options like Crysis and S.T.L.K.E.R. does. It always feels good to glance down the list and see the very high across the board topped off with the 32xaa and D11.
I didn't feel anything if they reveal tali's face, I like Miranda you know and I want another one like her or more than one like her in ME3 :)
Magic, gonna be grabbing this on day one methinks. I've always loved the so-called 'action rpg' genre, but as many have already said I would prefer if rpg elements of the gameplay were the majority. Here's hoping....
Looks interesting. Love the series, right up there with Elder Scrolls. I think the logical next step is to hire Peter Jackson, a stellar cast, and convert the series into a motion picture trilogy. 3 films, and at least a billion in profits......think about it girls!
Nice, I'm going to switch this series over from 360 to PS3. Played the first on 360 and bought the second on 360 but haven't played it because I've been too busy.
@Phatjam98 Compared to the other platforms.. yes, there are. Exclusives: Ratchet & Clank 4, Uncharted 3, Killzone 3, Resistance 3, LittleBIGPlanet 2, inFAMOUS 2, Motorstorm 3, ICO & Shadow of the Colossus compilation.. I'd claim that there are quite many bigfranchise exclusives coming up on PS3, keeping in mind that Mass Effect 2 and 3 and Portal 2 are also coming on PS3 - it gives the console more big-title games, even if not exclusive. Especially to those who buy their X360 'exclusives' on PC, the PS3 is the best option in terms of exclusives next year. Anyway, moving on. Move is a gimmick? Yeah, it is, but so is Kinect. As much as I can admit that Kinect is impressive tech - I do also think it's very complex for a videogame to take advantage of unless it's coded for it in the first place. Just like how PS3's CPU is more powerful than X360's CPU - yet is more complex due to its 'differing from the normal' hardware architecture. As far as 3DTVs go: Click me
Company reps said the technology on display was built into the HDTV itself, meaning it would work with preexisting PS3 games and consoles. The company said similar plans are under way for Blu-ray players and VAIO laptops.
Click me as well
Sony reps said that it also plans to integrate the stereoscopic 3D technology directly into the PS3 beginning in 2011 or 2012.
So 3D is definitely a gimmick right now, but it's not going to remain a gimmick. Like I wrote: HDMI v1.3 and HDMI v1.4 can output 3D onto any HDTV -display in a few years. PS3 has a HDMI v1.3 output, so as long as you own a HDMI v1.3 cable and a HDMI v1.3 input TV - like me, you won't need a 3DTV for 3D. So do you think 3D glasses are expensive? Polarized stereoscopic 3D for 14,90e Red and Cyan for 9,90e Above for 5,90e Think again, plus I do think the 3DTVs will sell, they said the HDTVs were gimmick - yet, now about 50% of the gamers own one.
Well I'm glad you PS3 fanboys get to play ME2 soon and ME3 at the same time. It means it will sell way more copies than the previous versions and in my opinion is the best story line I've seen since Star Wars.... The originals not 1-3. It goes deep and sucks you in. But I have to say, those that think "Next year is playstations year!!!!" You say that every year. Every year you say next year is gonna be the year that you finally have better content than Xbox. I hate to say it, but while the games may be getting better for PS3, the Xbox is still king this gen. ME3 is comming out for all systems, its not a PS3 exclusive, and there really aren't that many exclusive titles comming out on PS3 next year. I know you all love your sony products, but Move is just silly looking and Kinect works great. The addition of 3D is a joke, its a gimmik. How many people have 3D TVs? Like 2 people. They are super expensive and limited with those glasses that makes it even more expensive. Congrats to those with 3D TV's but its not ready for the mainstream yet. Hurray for ME3 and I'm glad you sony guys get to check out my fav franchise, but its Xbox's crown to loose at this point.
I might as well write a letter to my family, friends, and college president right now letting them know that they will not be seeing me for awhile come the launch of Mass Effect 3 lol. Hey at least I'm planning ahead lol.
There better be a referrance to SPACE BALLS in Mass Effect 3 (for laughs) and a origin story on the reapers and maybe a visit to the long forgotten reaper home world.
I hope they bring back the RPG elements and space exploration. Loved ME1, but 2 felt very linear (but still a great game). I played ME for the awesome story and great locations; reminded me of 80s sci-fi books. Crazy action is not why i play ME. I hope ME3 does not take the Gears of War direction.
@pelvist - totally off topic, but duuuude, I love your avatar. I can remember countless hours looking at that dev name on screen throughout the life of my C64 and Amiga. Ocean had some awesome games. On topic, I agree that they're likely to delay the PC release, despite what they're saying now. It's not like we can't wait though - any AAA title is just worth waiting for. It's not like there won't be countless other awesome games to play around that time (looking at you Uncharted 3 :) )
@thelegendlives5 yeah because it definitely hurt sales of ME2 when it was launched simultaneously on XBox and PC - shipping 2 million copies in it's first week. And the Xbox has no pirates whatsoever and definitely didn't have millions banned for using modded xboxes. /sarcasm It won't hurt sales in the slightest, those who will buy it will buy it, those who will pirate it will pirate it regardless of when and what platform it's released on.
Love this, the PS3 has so many great titles this coming year! Also this is great for the industry, the more people that get to play big titles the more money development companies make, the more incentive there is to make great games! Tired of reading the Xbox fanboys cries about this, it is good for gaming so go back to playing Halo!
@dethroned3 What? You're kidding right? Nope those Reaper's look nothing like Reapers what so ever. Nope Commander Shepard's armor doesn't have N7 on it. It doesn't even look close to any kind of armor from mass effect. And finally, we obviously hear no mention of Shepard at all. Nothing. This is a trailer for the new game "Mr. sniper and Big ben + some other stuff"
We'll see, wait till a month before release when they tell us the pc version is delayed because it needs "further optimisation" like they always do. We all know the real reason they delay PC multiplats is to sell more on consoles for royalty fees because the PC versions are always better but some people cant wait. Oh and I went to watch the film Skyline, and it sucks.
Mass Effect 1 was amazing! a big and annoying LOL moment for me was every time i would get in a lift during gameplay... "lifts of doom" springs to mind! Mass Effect 2 is just.. OMG!!! huge improvement on gameplay compared to the 1st instalment, and getting it on with every female on Normandy was my greatest sense of achievement! Mass Effect 3... i wonder how good that will be?????
Seriously now, too many awesome games are coming out for PS3 next year, I can't believe I'm gonna have to try get: ME2 and 3, Elder Scrolls 5, LBP2, Killzone 3 and Uncharted 3. Seriously, those are just the games in my top priorities, if any other good games come out I'm going to have to sell my kidney to get the cash.
Going by the trailer, this game is going to be even more action based, which is bad for the series imo. I much prefer Mass Effect to Mass Effect 2.
Is it me or this series looking less and less like Mass Effect as the series goes on? I definitely hope the earth section of the game is saved for the end. There's still a lot of the galaxy to explore and all that jazz. Here's to hoping it doesn't become more and more like any another 3rd person shooter.
Great thing so I can talk about the game with my friend who has a PS3. It gets tiring trying to explain both games to him. But I wonder if there will be multiplayer capabilities since EA released that statement that no one plays single player games anymore, which I call BS on. If they do, i just hope they focus on the single player experience first.
I just hope that they bring back more of the RPG elements from ME1. The second game is amazing but its a bit too streamlined for me
@thelegendlives5 Ever heard of PAL?...or torrents? Its just as rampant on the consoles. Stop trying to give the PC a bad name.
There is only one bad part about this. The simultaneous PC launch might hurt the sales of the game since piracy is so easy for the PC.
Its nice to see PS3 getting Mass Effect, it really is a game all corners of gamers(except Wii) should experience. I only hope these gamers don't take it for granted and play the game just because of its popularity without playing the previous ones. You TRULY do cheat yourself when(if you don't play the prequels) it comes to Mass Effect.
