Capper to BioWare's sci-fi RPG trilogy will now arrive on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 in the first three months of next year.
One of the holiday season's heavy hitters has bowed out of the fourth quarter. Today, via Facebook, BioWare announced that Mass Effect 3 will now arrive on the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 during the first three months of 2012. The new date puts it in the similar launch window of Mass Effect 2, which launched in January 2010 for the Xbox 360 and PC and in January 2011 for the PS3.
"The development team is laser focused on making sure Mass Effect 3 is the biggest, boldest and best game in the series, ensuring that it exceeds everyone's expectations," said Mass Effect series executive producer Casey Hudson in a statement.
The third installment in BioWare's epic sci-fi role-playing game series, Mass Effect 3 sees planet Earth under siege. The attackers are the Reapers, a race of heavily armed sentient spacecraft that were central to the plot of the first Mass Effect. The Reapers' return to the series was concretely revealed in Arrival, the tepidly reviewed last installment of downloadable content for Mass Effect 2.
In Mass Effect 3, players will once again take on the role of Commander Shepard, a hardened space marine who is now on the run from his former employer, the shadowy pro-human organization Cerberus. To save Earth, he must travel the galaxy trying to rally support from alien civilizations with varying degrees of sympathy (or lack thereof).
I missed out on the first two games, but the demo for mass effect 2 seemed fun. I hope I can get it.
This is why i love EA....they dont do stupid stuff like Activision....activision will release a Cod game even if its barely half done.....EA will wait until its finished...
Wow cant wait for it...... take as much as time you want BioWare, we want something amazing just like ME2, I've finished that game literary 8 times. I almost wish there was a movie based on the story. The drama always makes me start a new game lol
Then I'll rape the freak outta Battlefield 3 while waiting for this! It's gonna be a super happy new year for us gamers!
Charocks your probably spot on. In any case I would rather see a highly polished ME3 rather than a rush job. Besides I think Im more excited about Skyrim anyway.
I know a lot of people will be disappointed hearing this news but folks, this is actually good news. Look at Bioware's recent releases. Dragon Age II was poor, Arrival DLC for ME2 was pretty boring, people have been questioning the quality of game ME3 will be with a proposed deadline for holiday 2011. Bioware, take all the time you need. Take "Valve Time" or "Blizzard Time" if you have to, because ME3 is going to be the best goddamn game ever and itll be worth any amount of waiting for it.
AKA: We don't want to go up against Skyrim because you need to play ME1 and 2 to understand the story while Skyrim is stand alone. They realize that with consoles being bought during the holiday season, people will be more drawn to Skyrim than a game requiring 2 other games to understand.
@Philly1UPer Anytime man and yes I agree, I hate people make retarded complaints and of course they need more time on bug problems and the story line too. I have no problem on waiting for the game release and thanks lolz I wanted to use my own avatar I created on Photoshop CS4 and it doesn't work and I didn't want to do it again so I use HL2 Avatar and man I got to love Valve Games. xD
Good to see they're pushing it back instead of bum rushing to try to finish in their original window. This still pains me greatly, however.
I'm pleased that they are pushing it back. One excellent game I can buy later. Maybe they'll put an announcement for the Mass Effect MMO!!!!!
I would much rather have a better, larger end to the mass effect series then having the feeling of unfulfillment
NOOO!!!! I want Shepard this year..... : / well, at least give us a 2nd teaser this year pls :p and SW:TOR better be this year ^^
the longer development time will most assuredly make the same more polished. besides, november was going to be a very expensive month for me.
mass effect is a great game...but it's should be larger than the previous game...come on i mean it's the space we talking about....if you get my drift...love the character the storyline are great...
i can wait long for more explosive content~ then a 2~3 second of hand grenade kind of impact.....*hate half baked bombz*
I can't see why people hated what BioWare done to Dragon Age 2, sure they added few simplifications but they didn't overdone it like Fable 3.
I'd definitely rather a game be delayed than rushed, but I think this delay has more to do with sales than anything.
EA's Blizzard lol but seriously... as long as the game is release in great quality i dont mind them postponing, not for too long of course =)
They can take as long as they like just as long as it doesn't turn into the abortion that was Dragon Age 2.
2 million dead in the 1st day another 7millon buy the end of the 1st week ......another 1millon by game delay
I would much rather see it come out late than come out rushed. I was worried straight away when I saw it had a pre-Christmas release, EA putting deadlines like that on such a deep game was never going to work.
just bloody polish it, better worth the time, Bioware. But again, I don't think I have the budget for this year's end epicness. A delay like this is acceptable.
i dont know why people get so offended and bothered by delays....as long as they take advantage of the time that its not released....im fine...i mean there are the ones that do bother me like your Dukes....and this gen seems run by it....but if anything this delay has helped me....because with so many games coming out the end of this year having ME3 come out early next year and me be able to dedicate my time to it is everything i want...of course...all the games i want this year will probably get delayed to lol
Why should Valve and Duke Nukem Forever have all the fun? (Just a joke guys, I respect companies that take time on their products)
Could've guessed - we haven't even seen a single screenshot yet. 2012, sigh... Shepard's on the run from Cerberus? What? Isn't he that very special man who's all that stands between mankind and its destruction? Looks like the Illusive man's been smoking the wrong stuff, LOL!
I don't have a problem with this delay, but I'm guessing it's going to suffer again at game awards just because it's January and most people will forget about it by December
Spend less time and money making a game and more time and money on advertising and you make your money back anyway. Who cares if the game sucks. There's always more DLC to make more money on. AND YOU WILL BUY IT! DON'T LIE!!!
