Publisher confirms Sony console edition of downloadable fighter will lag two weeks behind its Xbox 360 counterpart.
At the same time that Marvel vs. Capcom 2 was first confirmed for release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, a single-player demo version of the game arrived exclusively for Sony's console. No doubt some Xbox 360 users looked at their PS3-owning counterparts with jealousy as a result, but the tables have now turned.
Capcom today announced that Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is set for an August 13 release on the PlayStation Network, two weeks later than its July 29 debut on Xbox Live Arcade. The Xbox 360 launch date was confirmed last week as part of Microsoft's second Summer of Arcade promotion. Regardless of when gamers will be able to purchase it, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 will set them back $15 (1,200 Microsoft points).
Originally released in arcades in 1998, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 features a roster of more than 50 fighters and introduces three-on-three tag-team fighting to the crossover series' formula. The PS3 and Xbox 360 editions will add online play to the game, as well as an optional visual filter to hide some of the game's blemishes in high definition.

So PS3 Owners have to wait 2 extra weeks because we had a demo that we couldn't play unless we had two controllers......right. I'm not gonna buy it on xbox cuz the pad SUCKS for fighting games and I only have a stick for my ps3.
@pillar81 i agree with you i got so mad when i began to play it because it was offline and not online. and i didnt have a extra controler which sucked for me
Money talks, what does it say? "You better get busy, if you want to get paid!" - Prince And that's about the scene.
The PS3 demo was a ball licker. King Kong balls not ping pong balls. 360 owners were spared the disappointment I and many other PS3 owners felt at the demo. It is totally a moot point to complain about PS3 gettin the demo and not 360.
now i currently own myself a 360 but i will get a ps3 soon and this is really not fair to ps3 like it was to 360 owners...i wanna punch the bastard that thought of downloadable content because almost every game has this nowadays....
THIS IS CRAP!!!!! FIRST IT'S SUPPOSED TO COME OUT THE BEGINNING JULY NOW THE MIDDLE AS AUGUST WHAT A BUNCH OF BS PLAYSTATION!!!! BOOO
@ Dawg9000 ooo thas possible??? like i was thinking of letting my friend going on my account and downloading it off my recently downloads that would work?
@damonkeypirate my thoughts exactly you read my thoughts bro man. i wouldnt be surprised after the game comes out a few months later theyll add character or maps. because this game is great just the music is ify sometimes.
man in the video above that guy got owned bad. i mean he cuda called a assist to take out storm. and yea im kinda mad with this BS. like im not a fanboy or anything but xbox shoulda gotten the demo too i own a ps3. lately i been hating how for one console a game comes out lets say next week and the same game for a different console 3 weeks later. it doesnt make sense its like their picking faves. for example i notice in reviews they use 360 system more then the ps3. why not just review both the only difference should be the graphics but the core gameplay and etc should be the same.prolly the 360 will have probs online. for example battlefield 1943 my friends for the 360 said their lag issues and also when they try to play a game it says a game doesnt exist. and my ps3 friends play and say they encountered no problems what so ever
Microsoft is to blame...well either them or the greedy publishers lapping up the money to either delay things for ps3 or not have them come out on the system at all!! It's bull$hite, but I'm sure it will continue, especially since capcom is wanting all the money that they can get. Just look at the release of RE5 putting modes on the disc and making you pay for an unlock key after release is exactly the kind of crap I am expecting from them in the future because they got away with it. I won't be surprised if they withhold some of the unlockable characters and make you pay extra for them after buying the game. CAPCOM...stop Fckuing with us!
They must have some type of set back, you remember what happened when SSF2THDR came out and the online was not as stable as the 360. 2 weeks is NBD...
well, could be worse, at least it's not one of those games that shows up many months after the X360 version
@garland51 They also said that with the PS2, it just happened that it did came out first and PS3 came last this gen, so they already felt comfortable with the two supposedly easy-to-develop consoles. But yeah, parallel processing might be a real pickle for others to develop games into. The Cell is tough. @TongLong Oh yeah...but I just used to watch people getting wasted at arcade cabinets...so I'll patiently wait for two weeks, and probably will just beat my brother but whatever, that alone is satisfying...and he's 9 years old! Man I saw something like a servebot beating the crap out of other players in the arcade. That was scary.
Crap, what's with all the delays? My brother wants to get a hand on this game since June, and all I can give him is a demo. And now this?! Seriously... On a good note, I can milk some money from my parents to buy this, since the money they earn comes next month. Heeheehee. I'll probably just buy WipeoutHD since it's on sale right now...
I mean seriously, didn't they say they had a near finished version of the game put on their desk like FOUR WEEKS AGO???
so apparently a jipped demo with only local multiplayer is an excuse to delay a game for 2 weeks? nice Capcom. nice.
The thing with the PS3 is the ability to give downloads to friends. That loses all the developers tons of money.
And when the people remember how to do the infintes............ *shudder* All the memories are coming back. lol
Kinda lame, why not for both at the same time? I feel for you PS3 owners that are waiting for this game to drop, I thought we could all enjoy getting wasted by Cable/Iron Man/Ryu teams all together! :) Two weeks extra isn't that bad I guess.
thats weird didnt the ps3 get the demo and 360 didnt but then why is it coming to the 360 first and the ps3 two weeks later oh well i cant wait for the 360 version the delay wasnt so bad considering i have blazblue to tide me over.
If you're going to blame someone for the delays, blame Sony for making their console much harder to develop games on.
Another reason i'm glad i have a 360 :) but two weeks isnt a big deal. Atleast ps3 owners got the demo.
I think it is very cool that new players are going to be able to play this awesome game now. 2 weeks isn't that big a deal so I don't see all the fuss. Me, I'm happy with my PS2 version and since the only REAL addition to this version is online play I'll just avoid it. I always enjoy arcade fighting games more with the person present anyway. Good stuff.
I wonder if, all else being equal, publishers would rather have consumers buy their games on XBLA than on PSN. On XBL, Microsoft pays for hosting/storage (subsidized by Gold XBL fees, even though Silver members can still buy XBLA games). On PSN, Sony charges the publisher for every GB of data downloaded. Just food for thought.
I just don't understand the logic behind this. I own both consoles however my preferred console is the PS3 and I want this game for that console. Looks like I'll have to wait a bit longer.
Balls. Way to dick around Capcom. It was originally supposed to come out over the july 4th weekend but, when I checked, it was nowhere to be found. MVC2 was AWOL... Now this? Way to eat dick Capcom.
@Onyx79 thanks for understanding me, this generation has just been a crazy one with not only downloadable games but retail games going to one system before the other... it is sad that this has happened to the industry...
hahah now this really isnt something fanboys should be fighting for. Its going to come after 2 weeks.. BIG DEAL. Anyway im not interested in MvC2 at all. Capcom gimme another DARKSTALKERS!!!!
I own both systems so this isnt a problem. But its still f'd up that PS3 only players have 2 wait 2 weeks 2 play a game that is over 10 years old. But hey u'll still b able 2 play. & 4 all u 360 owners watch out cuz im gonna hurt yall feelings in that game.
I actually don't mind the wait, since I'm already pretty busy playing Blazblue, and King of Fighters XII comes out July 28th (at least, if it doesn't get delayed again). Don't get me wrong, I enjoy playing MvC 2, and I'll eventually buy it, but the game IS over 9 years old, and I'm simply hungry for something new.
a large roster for nothing since your only probably going to see 25% of that roster eventually being used online when people start figuring out which characters have the clear advantage. damn it capcom i was hoping youd atleast rebalanced the game oh well since its the same old MvC2 game ive played enough of i guess i can just save my money.
The reason the ps3 version is coming out later than the x360's is that gamestop is selling a "hard copy" with like a manual, redeem code, etc only for ps3. Having the digital download come out later will help gamestop sales. I dont think the delay has anything to do with programming issues for the ps3. We've waited this long already; two more weeks is nothing.
