All-new stories of Bungie's sci-fi universe set to land in graphic novel form; Moebius, Simon Bisley, among the artists lending their talents to the book.
Like a galaxy-wide plague of The Flood, the spread of Bungie's first-person shooter Halo into new forms of media appears nigh unstoppable. Books and music CDs are already on store shelves, Peter Jackson is producing the feature film based on the license, and now Marvel Comics is bringing the license to comic books.
Marvel and Bungie today announced that the comics giant responsible for Spider-Man, the X-Men, and a host of other superheroes will be publishing a graphic novel anthology of tales set in the Halo universe. The 128-page full-color volume is set for release in July.
Few details have been revealed about the stories included, but Marvel has said they will feature signature characters and weapons and be set against a backdrop involving the alien races of the Covenant and the Flood. Perhaps more interesting to comic fans is the roster of talent secured to put words and images on the page. Beyond renowned French comics artist Moebius, the Halo graphic novel will also feature the talents of Phil Hale, Ed Lee, Tsutomo Nihei, Jay Faerber, Andrew Robinson, Simon Bisley, and Lee Hammock. There will also be a selection of gallery pages from both professional comic artists and Bungie's internal art team.
"The chance to give our faithful fans something this special was a chance we had to jump at," Bungie studio manager Harold Ryan said. "Reexploring the Halo universe with some of our favorite comic book artists and writers--indeed, some of the greatest of all time--was a true labor of love and we couldn't have picked a better partner than Marvel to help us achieve our vision."
That vision might be achieved several times over. Marvel has signed an exclusive deal with Bungie for the comic rights to the Halo series and has promised that additional projects based on the license are in the works.
So, what happened to the special edition trading card game? :P Its about time really - the novels were awesome!
Wow... just got the graphic novel today... I'd give it a 20 out of 100.... The First story is the flood invading a conenant ship... good idea, but OMG the artist that did it must have been new to the industry!!! Horrible!!! The second story was so freaking boring, as well as the last one... yet the arists were much better... The only thing that saves this book is the Cover, and the Art in the back of the book. Not one fricking story involving the Master Chief... I'm actually in shock over how bad this graphic novel is... shame...
yunghoodz Wow, what a moron. You say the Halo story sucks but I bet you don't even have a clue what it is about. It not all about fighting and covenant killing people and humans fighting. Get your factsm straight before you post.
yunghoodz you say halo is just an "average" fiirst person shooter but then you say the xbox wouldnt have gotten anywhere without it? halo's story isnt weak. the covenent didnt just come to earth to kill the humans they where came on religious beleifs to find the halo and purify the universe by activating halo....duh
OMG !!!! That will suck, i love halo more than any other game, it is already like a movie to me, cool epic story cool protagonist, and then comes Marvell and spoils it all DAMN!!! It would be better if some other comic company bought rights for making halo comic than Marvell , they r too childish....not all but most of them !!!! I would love if Dark Horse did them, not Marvell ; even DC would kick their *** =) Well this is just my theory ! Have Fun
This is gonna be pretty awesome. I'm not usually one for comics but its about one of my favorite games of all time so it's definitely something I wanna check out. I loved the novels so this should be good especially being 128 pages and full color.
Screw all you guys that are dissin on Halo its one of the best games i have ever played now back to elderscrolls 4 oblivion...
Yeah to the guy that said Halo's story was weak, from the first post I believe it was, go read the Halo novels. Read the novels and then actually play the games, I think you will change your mind and if not well who cares.
Put me on that list ! I'm getting the #1 issue no matter how far I have to travel. I will be on the look out. I hope it goes big ..
how many issuse can come out with the same thing... master chief... kills everything... over and over again...
two were terrible. But the others had a good ghost/dreamlike enviroment . hope they don't screw it up
Um...does anybody else wanna guess at why the sound effects in pic 5 are in Japanese? BTW, still looks pretty good.
If there's anyone worth handling a comic is Marvel. But I think HALO is a little shallow for a comic book...
It is surprising the sheer number of comments/interest this garbage (and yeah a video game based comic is most likely garbage) generates. Halo is a decent FPS (yes decent, not fantastic, not ground breaking and certainly not a well crafted storyline) but people treat it like the second coming or something.
It sounds interesting, but I can't say too much before I at least see something more. As for the panels and the like, I like the enviroment style in the fourth, and the chief looks okay in the first one, but none of it really wows me. the artists need to remember that Master Chief is a big, buff, seven foot tall guy that weighs a ton in his suit, not a lean little guy like Spiderman and he walks like a human and stands like one too, not like some ape (like in the first panel). Sure, these are probably rough drafts with color, but they need to keep in mind that people won't buy the second one if the first isn't any good just because it's Halo. That goes for the third, fourth, and so on. In short, I'm openly optimistic.
Well this whould make it easyer for people who dont want to buy and read the books, but hey id read them!
The only ones that really caught my eye were the last two. To me, they're the only ones that best embody Halo. The others look a little...weird to belong in a Halo graphic novel.
this is good news. I read all the halo novels and loved them. If marvel can keep the storyline close to the novels they could get a huge response from true halo fans
All you guys complaining that you don't care and think it's stupid, DON'T FREAKIN' POST!!!!!! We don't need your negative thoughts and energy here. Only people with no lives do that kind of thing!!! The iffy looking panels probably aren't even final. Besides, as I stated befor, it looks like it will be awesome. : )
