Major Counter-Strike: GO update alters weapon recoil

After gathering feedback from professional players, Valve adjusts weapon balance and recoil for PC version; new Deathmatch mode added.

Valve has released a major update for the PC version of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. After gathering feedback from professional players across the world, Valve decided to change recoil levels for all weapons. In addition, specific adjustments have been made to rifles, pistols, and the P90.

It is not clear if Valve intends to also update the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

Valve has also implemented weapon purchasing changes, including raising the AWP's kill reward from $50 to $100. Additionally, the Glock is now a Terrorist-only weapon, and the FiveseveN is now a Counter-Terrorist-only weapon. The Terrorists' Molotov price has dropped to $500, while the Counter-Terrorists' incendiary grenade will remain at $850.

A new game mode--Deathmatch--is now available for matching and offline play. Players can join a Deathmatch game on either the Classic maps or the Demolition and Arms Race maps. Valve said the new Deathmatch mode is aimed at beginners, because it allows them to discover where they might be exposed and alert them to new angles and approaches.

Also now available for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is a private beta for the Map Workshop. Interested mapmakers can mail Valve at csgo_sdk@list.valvesoftware.com with the subject "Map Workshop Beta" and their Steam ID with a link to maps already shipped or in progress to be considered.

The guns now feel much more like CS: Source. I enjoyed playing CS: GO while the guns felt like real guns (like they did CS 1.6)... I'm not sure if I'll be playing CS: GO any more now that it feels like CS: Source, which was a garbage dumpster game in my opinion.

@kitchenwallet  if they never update xbox360/ps3  versions Ever in any lifetime;p ,its ofc  a  complete ripoff and a joke,,,also a ripoff is the removall of create your own server,,spraypaint is gone and so on and so on,,they just add extremly small updates at a time which is a shame,,as for your statement i totally agree,,but iff addding what i ask here or demand,,,whatever,,we can call it half a remake,,even though its not cs.Source in any way it sticks   shamely too close to it;p,,same formula ,,with small changes,,now commercials and trailers says many things like new maps,,new this and that,,i cant see too much new,,its more removal of things than a revolution,,it could have been a great cs,,but they only are milking it seems;p

I love the end of the vid review for CS:GO--  "...few games are better than this one."  Then, an 8.5 Review score pops up.

Shouldn't weapon recoil be based off of real world weapons, not feedback from prof players. I personally wish the MK14 was fully automatic with no recoil, unlimited ammo, and each kill would grant me kisses from Jessica Alba. I saw a documentary where devs tested real world recoil, weight, rise, and function. In a sick way of playing cowboys and indians, for realism I still would rather my six shooters only held six shots.

@jenovaschilld I don't think that really works in a highly competetive game like CS where balance is extremely important. :\

I'm kind of disappointed that they didn't try to explain the recoil changes at all in this article but the beta maps sound cool.

So for anyone that has played since, how does the recoil feel?

they need to balance the damn sniper rifles... you can do a 360° jump/turn, reload your pistol and change back to the rifle, all mid air if you want, and just when you hit the ground just rigth click and there you go, you're immediately aiming, and of course PERFECTLY steady x(

@CriticalCritic I think you're the one who doesn't understand humor. Acting and talking in a manner indistinguishable from a moron does not make you clever or witty. It makes you a moron.

@StinkySkunkGirl Nobody said it was GOOD satire. But it was clearly satire that was intended to be humorous. You're the one who should research what humor is a little bit more.

And once again Valve completely ignores it's console gamers. At this point I don't even know why they bother releasing their games on consoles at all since they're obviously PC elitists. They don't need the money from console sales, so why bother?

@CyhortI82

Patching games on the consoles costs more time for certification, and money to be payed for both Microsoft and Sony, and they have size restrictions on the patches, blame MS and Sony if anyone, for making it a pain in the ass to patch a game on their consoles when it is a breeze in comparison to the PC.

It almost costs 40,000 $ to release a single patch on Xbox live according to Tim Schafer (http://www.hookshotinc.com/interview-schafers-millions/) talk about money grubbing.

@MAD_AI @CyhortI82 Exactly. They altered many weapons, which, as the article states, is a major thing. If they need to tweak values over the coming weeks to keep things balanced, then dropping $40k on a patch right now would be silly. Not only that but QA certification for patches is notoriously slow on 360, so one might already even be in the process. Regardless, the developer owns the entire digital distribution platform that the PC version uses, which means they're able to do their own thing at their own rate and not pay absurd fees for that platform.

@CyhortI82Consoles = money. Everyone likes money, even when they have it already.

Valve has always been a PC company and will always fix PC games first. It's the opposite of pretty much every other company (stuff on xbox live months before PC etc.) out there, so just deal with it.

I haven't updated yet, but I don't understand the point. These "pros" keep complaining that CS:GO isn't competitive enough, and that CS:S and 1.6 are better. It's like they want CS:GO to be an exact replica of the other two games. If that's the case, why don't they just continue playing the other two?

iCruze
iCruze

@starcrafthenry Nononono! pros say that CS 1.6 is better. CS:S and CS:GO just have a way too different feel to them. I've played CS alltogether for 11-12 years now and started when it was still CS 1.0-1.1. The thing is they kept players playing the game with updates that made it better and everyone got used to it. Then they release a new title CS:S and the feel of the game, the physics of movement, weapon handling, firing is absolutely different, same with CS:GO. People are used to the physics from CS 1.6 and frankly they love it. Look at say COD. MW, MW2 and MW3 ( no black ops because of different dev) all have updated stories, new content and maybe a bit updated graphics but they feel the same when handling them.

So noone wants CS:GO to be an exact replica of CS 1.6 but...CS: GO should have new content, new game modes, updated looks but retain the old familiar feel of playing it, especially since they decided to go on without iron sights (im not complaining about it).

@iCruze @starcrafthenry actually i even go further, as much as i like valve, counter-strike the mod was the best, and very easy to change/add/customize content for it. 1.5 with the right plugins, a CRT, a ms 3.0 mouse, a pack of lucky strike and a bunch of crazy ppl to play with

Ehm I'm not getting the Molotov vs. Incendiary price thing? They pretty much do the same thing right? Realism can't be an argument since a bottle of petrol + rag really still is cheaper than $500...

iCruze
iCruze

@spOOoOOn And still i will point out realism, because it IS cheaper to buy material for a molotov then a professionally manufactured incendiary grenade.

@spOOoOOn Maybe the terrorists in CS:GO want a quality limited edition of bottle of petrol and the rag is made from Victoria's Secret cloths.
