Don't turn it into another GTA clone, please! I love Mafia series, and I also love GTA series - don't spoil it.
[UPDATE] 2K tells GameSpot no plans announced yet for future Mafia game, debunks rumor that 2K Czech is assisting Rockstar with Grand Theft Auto V.
Mafia II developer 2K Czech is busy with work, it appears, as a recent rumor suggests the developer is not only crafting a new entry in the Mafia franchise, but is also assisting Rockstar Games with development on Grand Theft Auto V.
As for the first half of that rumor, a tipster told VG247 that 2K Czech has entered full development on Mafia III following a year of preproduction work. No release window or platforms were made available for Mafia III, but the source said 2K was present at the supposed "Durango" next-generation developer gathering in London last week.
As for the second half of that rumor, the source told the site that 2K Czech has been helping Rockstar for close to a year on Grand Theft Auto V. The Mafia developer is reportedly producing animations for cutscenes and general gameplay for Rockstar's new open-world game.
The site's source indicates that not only is 2K Czech helping Rockstar with Grand Theft Auto V, but Rockstar is sharing some of its development tips with the Mafia house. According to the source, publisher Take-Two is keen on turning the Mafia franchise into the publisher's next big-ticket series.
Grand Theft Auto V was officially announced in October, but no mention has yet been made concerning a launch window or platform(s) for the game. As for a new entry in the Mafia franchise, after shipping Mafia II, developer 2K Czech laid off 40 employees but noted it remained intent on building new games.
[UPDATE] A 2K Games representative told GameSpot, "Rockstar Games and 2K Czech are not working on any projects together. We haven't announced any plans regarding a future Mafia release."
I truly love the vintage world of mafias.
Mafia II was outstanding in the depiction of that world.
I'm very pleased that they are making the next part of the game that i can never forget.
I indeed hope there will be a MAFIA 3. I hope it will be long, and have a very high quality. I hope it will have a lot of small details, and very less bugs and visual bugs. Also that opening and closing the windows and doors will have different arm movements. Also I hope there will be realistic face expressions (and fingers and ears) like in LA Noire.MAFIA 3 GO GO GO!!!!!!!!
I hope to have a more snow, more rainy, more missions than mafia 2, mafia 1. Mafia 2 is too short game i'll thinking. Cuz i'll finished it with 2 days. :D.
***PLEASE PROMISE TO HAVE MORE MISSIONS.***
In next year we will see, to have more missions or not. :)
i hope they make is so they weather changes so it can be snowing for a couple of days then be raining the next then sunny and i hope you have more choose of cloths and

@mafia_fan Sounds really interesting...however, how can you have a little big city? Haha, you mean a city that is of large scale that is a bit bigger than the map scale on Mafia 2? :')
Mafia III Needs to be produced and released , theres unanswered questions still , Can't wait for its release , I might buy GTA 5 Really just depends on the whole meaning of it this time round
This article was a bit below the belt, since the title states "Mafia III enters full production" yet the article concludes with "Rockstar Games and 2K Czech are not working on any projects together. We haven't announced any plans regarding a future Mafia release."
i loved mafia2 but it took me so long to get all those dumb wanted posters that after i platinumed it i never played any of the dlc i bought thts how sick of the game and how much i hated it after those posters. please dont include something that dumb ever again!
Mafia III is definitely in development. They have been doing preprod for more than a year. A friend was working on it before he got the axe when 2k did some cost cutting last year.
yes! yes! yes! I cannot wait. I've been dying to find out how the game continues after Mafia II's ending. I'm glad to hear the two teams are working together.
hey, i got Mafia II and let me tell you I was so incredibly impress that i give 2 thumps up for them making Mafia III. if you don't mind maybe Mafia III could take a new timeline and new locations...
I hope they grasp the concept of joining forces in a loving way and not bicker , that's what wrong with the world today , i may be old school , but those days were a lot better IMO - I hope to see nothing but Greatness !
Well, I liked Mafia 2 in general, but 2K kinda dropped the ball if you compare it to Mafia 1. Sure, the sequel has better graphics and animations, but the story, characters and overall feel of the world is so much better done in the first game... It would be interesting to see what they come up with for Mafia 3.
@WiredDreemz: But there's also a long tradition of rumours being debunked by the official sources before it turns out they were true after all. I guess all we can say is that we know just as much now as before this news was posted...
Mafia 2 is the type of game I would have loved if I had not been playing games for the past 20 years. I think you also need to be a fan of the time period and the majority of gamers prefer modern styled games.
@vivalatour While it's great, remember about "A House Divided" and stuffs like that.... It's great news however if 2 major game developers get together to help one another in two different games in the same genre. What we will see I think, is two games all of us would like (of course, if it's true).... I wish they make the story in Mafia set from the Prohibition to the late 60's.....
two great producers can only mean > A GREAT GAME ! these are not two" little kids " fighting over a toy ! I think they will go all out to accomplish what I know they can , which is a > GREAT GAME ! I still go with >TWO HEADS ARE BETTER THAN ONE ! can you imagine how many heads here !!!!
Really i dont think that,s gonna happen because ROCKSTAR works independent (sometimes) and i hope theres more stuff to put to the game (GTA)
Looking forward to this. Really enjoyed II except for the ending, so hopefully it continues from there. I would like a larger world and some more side missions and I would also like a new save system. I did not like how if you went to bed the next chapter started. Lastly, longer story and of course more Playboys :p
Wish list. . . Multiplayer mode. Much bigger World to explore. Much more vehicle types (Motorcycles, planes, military vehicles, boats) All in the game and not some rip off DLC. Interesting locations (Race track, Army base, Sports grounds, night clubs) Mafia ll was great for its graphics, driving physics and combat but I feel it was too short and very limited - Then added about 10 packs of DLC for some cars was a rip off.
Rumors and speculations, but it would still be great. Mafia 2 was lackluster on content, but the story was very good and went in a great flow, so i'll be expecting this.
Oh well, we could've hoped! Generally the rumour-mill isn't wrong. Guess this is one of the exceptions to the rule!
So what happens in this game? You go out and break the legs of people who have annoyed your team to earn cash? Oh wait, no, that's football. You go out and break the legs of people who have annoyed your *family* to earn cash?
