Lost Planet 3, Resident Evil: Revelations expected to sell 1.2 million

Capcom reveals sales projections for upcoming games; Monster Hunter 4 projected to sell 2.8 million copies in upcoming year.

Capcom today divulged sales projections for a trio of its high-profile upcoming games. By the end of March 2014, the company expects Lost Planet 3 and Resident Evil: Revelations for consoles and PC to have sold 1.2 million units each across North America, Japan, and Europe.

Sales of 3DS-exclusive Monster Hunter 4 in Japan alone are expected to hit 2.8 million by the end of the period.

Resident Evil: Revelations for consoles and PC launches May 21, while Lost Planet 3 ships August 27. Monster Hunter 4 is due out this summer only in Japan.

The news follows yesterday's full-year earnings report, which saw Capcom profits fall 56 percent.

Capcom also laid out a roadmap of strategic objectives it plans to execute in the coming year in an effort to make its business more profitable. The first arm of this plan aims to make Capcom more competitive overseas by "deepening global ties" between development and marketing.

A subset of this plan is to establish a new organizational framework for next-generation game development. Capcom called out its recently announced PlayStation 4 game--codenamed Deep Down--as an example of this how the company is already following through on this strategy.

Other profit-boosting initiatives Capcom plans to execute this year include launching "proven" titles in Japan, a market the publisher called "highly profitable." Some of these games include Monster Hunter 4, Ace Attorney 5, and Sengoku Basara 4.

Lastly, Capcom said it will look to downloadable content as a means to make its business more profitable in the year ahead. The Japanese publisher aims to release DLC to extend the life of major titles by strategically launching add-on content.

Also, the company plans to increase sales from downloads simply by making more games available that are delivered as digital exclusives.

Steam titles, it f***ing figures. The retail versions won't sell very well on PC.

Translation: It will sell 1.1 million, and it shall be horrible because our team of unfaultable psychics told us it would sell 1.2 million!

These games were all failures!

(ironically sells 3.4 in their first month)

Get it? Because they are *expecting* the sales to bomb! :D

At least these seem like far more reasonable goals. I guess Capcom isn't completely blind yet.

Capcom expected RE Revelations (on console) 1.2 Millions but expected RE 6 7 MILLIONS ?

@gantarat Maybe they finally learned that brand recognition alone isn't enough. You also have to, you know, make a decent game

I would definitely purchase the Resident Evil Revelation when it comes out.  Not for the Lost Planet 3 until the review on it.

@commanderxp90 I'm still miffed about being shortchanged on LP 2 with stuff they had to cutout for the final release on 360.

Only 1.2 mill, I don't know Capcomasticdlc... Squeenix is having a hard time with a lot of their blockbuster titles with those number than some.

Yay, another DLC bilking strategy.

More realistic goals and likely smaller budgets. That's cool. I'd rather them offer guaranteed profit sharing/bonuses to devs and shoot for a budget that matches the low end of projected sales, than to have huge budgets. There are few games that seemed to get better just because they are bigger. They could have easily broken RE 6 into 2 more focused games and I would have been satisfied especially if they were more intimate.

at least we get a demo for RE revelations but knowing its background I alreaddy know that its a solid RE game but still the price is a lil bit hefty on steam having in mind that RE6 was only 30 Euro and came with all DLC for free.

@Printul_Noptii

Yeah I bought RE6 too for that price.  And it was garbage.  I will wait for the reviews, but judging by the 3DS, this game is awesome.   It is worth the price.  RE6 was worth no more than $5.

Kryptonbornson

@ewjiml Resident Evil was well worth the price and was excellent. I love Resident Evil, so I hope Revelations is good for a DS port since it's part of cannon. I have to get it.

That being said, I would love to buy RE Revelations in a heartbeat! Considering all the "true" RE fans have told me that it's the best RE game since Code Veronica, and about a million times better than that POS RE6!

Deadly_Nemesis

I'm gonna buy RE Revelations because apparently that is a good game and considered a worthy successor to RE4. And it actually looks like they were allowed to be creative with that game.

Capcom's gonna be disappointed thinking that Lost Planet is going to be a good seller...

1.2 million. Because RE:R sold like hotcakes on the 3DS. I'm sorry, I think 1.2 million is setting their expectations a tad too high, especially after showing such a big loss this past year.

Definitely buying RE: Revelations.  It's the game that RE6 should have been.

I think they are going to be disappointed come spring 2014. They're not really giving Lost Planet 3 that much time to sell it's ass off either.

Redblaze27

I highly doubt a year-old game selling for $10 above debut price with DLC will rake in a million sales for a re-hash.

Superzone
Superzone like.author.displayName like.author.displayName 2 Like

@Redblaze27 Uh, no.  It's a full HD console version of a game that was exclusive to 3DS a year ago.  Plenty of people will buy it, especially since it's 3x better than RE6.

FoxyKyoji

@Superzone @Redblaze27 Let's be honest though, 1.2 million is setting their expectations a tad too high. Especially with their track record and the losses from the past year.

fire the marketing team and put that money into the development and you will end up with a better game that will sell more. and on top of that, you wont be dissapointed when you dont hit projected sales figures, because there are no projected figures. just better games

AceJakk

Capcom, haven't you learned anything about your projections?  Why would a two year old game ported to aging consoles sell 1.3 million?  I'm guessing 700k.

berserks

@AceJakk If resident evil  6 sold 5 millions copies , i m sure revelation can easily sells 1.2 millions  . Especially since it s closer to what resident evil fan expect from the series . Personally i was planning to buy a 3ds in the future for that game .Thk god i won t have to ..

DieMyBride

@AceJakk considering the positive reception of the 3DS version and the wider audience it faces now it's a rather decent projection.

Well, those sales expectations seem somewhat more realistic, anyway.  I'm not interested in the RE series, but I do hope they don't screw up Lost Planet 3.  I enjoyed the first game, but passed on the second.

And I want more information on Deep Down, dammit!  :P

How does capcom know they will sell 1.2 million? It must be they are wishing it will sell that much for them to consider it highly successful.

One thing I don't get, you now have room full of people now totally believe it will sell at 1.2 million. What if they were to sell at 600,000? Who do they then blame for being wrong?

LeonRedfield334

@Jd1680a Lost Planet 3 won't get 1.2 mil. But RE:R will. That game is very good from what I've heard.

I played RE: Revelations on 3DS and it was surprisingly good, I was actually scared and it felt like Resident Evil game should. They need to do more of that and not shit like RE6. I actually hope Revelations will sell a lot, maybe then Capcom realises that they shouldn't take RE to so much action direction because games like CoD sell.

resident_jisen

@Stebsis personally i hope RE:R does well but i have bad feeling it`s not just a gut feeling.i`m gettting the game anyway sincei love re as a whole and don`t judge the games for there good and bad parts.i loved every re game that has comeout so far but i`m not fond of dead aim though it was to darn short.

@Stebsis Coming from someone who actually liked RE6, I agree. Less action please. Also, as an example for a REALLY bad RE game, you should just mention ORC. It's legitamtely terrible, where as with RE6 I find people who actually liked it all the time. It's user ratings average out Mid-to-Low 70's. ORC is more in the low 50's.

2bitSmOkEy
2bitSmOkEy

@dxBIGBOSSxb @Stebsis RE6 really wasn't THAT bad.......as a coop game.  By yourself it's pretty disappointing but if you play through the entire game with a friend it ends up being a lot of fun.  Especially if you turn the annoying quick time events off for the cutscenes.

LeonRedfield334

@CriticalCritic What are you talking about? ORC was just as bad as RE6. At least RE6 was fun and enjoyable. ORC was not even fun to play with friends.

@dxBIGBOSSxb @Stebsis I think RE6 had good game elements, like how all characters cross each other in the story. Overal is not a bad game, but in my opinion, it focus too much on action and bioterrorism. It is my opinion and my opinion only that bioterrorism is not the way to go and it is the reason why the game is developing towards an action shooter rather than a horro game. Another element that is missing in RE games since RE 4 if im not wrong  is the puzzles, I think that make the RE games more enjoyable.
